The chapter starts off with Shimana waking up in the morning and noticing that the Landlord's side of the futon is empty. She looks around the other rooms trying to find him (to no avail). Shimana, Asahi and Zen are left in shock and wondering whether he has already left the house. The doorbell rings just then and the three of them perk up thinking that maybe that it is the Landlord at the door (though one of them wonders why he is ringing the doorbell instead of just entering the house directly as per normal?) Much to their disappointment, it turns out to be Miura. He greets them with a 'Yo' but both Shimana and Zen look totally crestfallen that it is him instead of the Landlord.
Miura: You're not going to greet me? You're not happy?
Zen: DON'T COME HERE WITH JUST A 'YO'!!! WHY ARE YOU HERE?!!!
Shimana: GO HOME!
Miura: (Go home? You're horrible.) So you didn't hear anything from him? Fujiwara sent me an email telling me that he was going to Fukuoka.
Both Shimana and Zen look totally shocked at that piece of news. Shimana speculates that the Landlord must have already arrived at Fukuoka now and thinks sadly to herself that the Landlord has gone off without telling any of them. Asahi asked her whether they should try contacting the Landlord now. In agreement, Shimana tries to call him but they get an 'Out-of-Contact' message instead. Miura (with his usual expressionless face) tells them that it is useless as the Landlord has already turned off his phone and that he contacted his father before doing that which make it seems that this time around, he doesn't want to be found.
Miura: “He asked the post office to send his mails to my grandmother's house.”
Shimana or Zen (not sure which one): “WHY?!”
Miura: “And he asked that this house's lock to be change from tomorrow onwards.”
Shimana/Zen: “WHAAAT?!”
Shimana says in denial, “But he said we could contact him anytime.” Miura says that it is normal for him to tell her that but he has cheated on her. Didn't he just run away before the three of them start to bother him? The three of them begin to wonder, “That's not...That's not possible...Or maybe it is true...”
Then Miura drops the bomb – from now on, he will be living in their house.
Zen: “Wait! What do you mean?”
Miura: “What do I mean? That's because I will take the place of the Landlord from now on.”
Both Shimana's and Zen's jaws drop at that piece of news. Shimana exclaims, “OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!” while Zen asks, “What's that? We won't permit it!!”
Miura coolly says, “Oh, you hate the idea? But he told his father to let me take care of you. Plus, you need someone to protect you so I will be your guardian from now on!” Zen yells at him, “Go home! Or we'll call the police!” to which Miura answers, “I am the police.” Miura informed Zen that he will be installing a wiretap to keep an eye on him. Poor Zen becomes almost hysterical - “We don't need it!! Don't take your dream for reality!” Zen then hugs Asahi while crying about Miura, “Something weird happened! Do something, Taiga-san!” To which Shimana thinks sadly to herself that she will not be doing anything about the current situation. She's aware that she has a lot of things to say to the Landlord as a form of farewell but now she couldn't even tell him anything. Furthermore, they are not even able to contact him.
The scene then skips to one month later. Both Shimana and Zen are sitting outside during lunchtime, looking very much depressed. Zen speaks out loud that there hasn't been any news so far...He notices the bentou that Shimana has brought along. It is in the shape of a Power Ranger (?) character. “What a great fighting spirit!” Zen exclaimed. Shimana explains that Miura made the bentou because Asahi-san is attending Manami-chan's wedding ceremony. Zen wonders about the character on that bentou. Shimana says that the taste is pretty normal for something which may have the fighting spirit in it. The two lapse into silence but after awhile, Zen asked whether Taiga-san will ever come back one day. He goes on to say that even if he knows it, he can't help but admit that the Landlord has betrayed them. Shimana objects loudly to that - “That's not like that! After all, it's his father who tricked him! I'm sure he will come back! She thinks about him giving her the key chains. That's the same as when he said, “Let's get married.”
Just then, Saiko comes running towards them and Shimana thinks of how cute Saiko-chan really is. Saiko apologises for interrupting them but she would like to talk to Zen. It's about the exchange diary. She has written something in it and she wants Zen to read it and if he doesn't like it, he can throw it away. She then runs off while waving goodbye.
Shimana asks Zen about the exchange diary and Zen replies that it's because he doesn't have a phone. She thinks it's a good idea and Zen goes all hopeful and asks Shimana whether she wants to do an exchange diary with him too. Shimana answers that she wants to do it with the landlord which gets her thinking about the landlord again - he didn't speak to us since then nor did he tried to contact us.
Zen is saying that he wants to be with her but Shimana objects to that. “You prefer me over Saiko-chan? You have such a cute girl liking you. You should go out with her, Zen,” she tries to reason out with him. Zen screams, “I told you I prefer you! There's only you in my mind! We're going out since a long time ago. Since a long time! My eyes are already rotten so I can't find someone else cuter!” He then scolds her, “Baka!!” and “You shit!!” before running off, leaving Shimana looking stunned.
Shimana is thinking again, that's right...the landlord told me to go out with Zen. It was a great shock and I'm doing the same thing to him (as in ask him to go out with Saiko-chan). I hurt him.
The next scene shows Saiko stomping along the corridor of the school. A few of her admirers calls out to her by asking where she’s heading to only to be told off by a rather pissed-off Saiko. She then sees Zen in a rather dark and depressed mood standing with his head against a corner of the wall. She goes up to him and asks what's wrong. Saiko looks upset upon seeing Zen's super depressing mood and cries, “Could it be that you really hate the exchange diary?!”
Zen replies sombrely, “No...that's not it. I was thinking...how uncool I am...”
Saiko: “Eh?! That's not true! You're really cool! The best!”
Zen blushes at that declaration. Without looking at Saiko, he handed the exchange diary to her and asks her to write something else tomorrow and that she really has to do it.
The next scene takes place in a church. It's Manami's wedding ceremony. Somebody notes that Manami-chan is really beautiful and we have a shot of Asahi agreeing while looking wistfully at Manami. Asahi then asks his father whether he can contact that guy; that guy being Taiga-san. His father says no and Asahi asks his father to inform him if he hears anything about Taiga-san. Just then, somebody calls out Asahi's name. It's Manami and she grabs Asahi in a bear hug. She asks him about her dress; whether it looks good on her. Asahi agrees and says that she's beautiful. Manami smiles delightedly at that. She informs him that his mother wants to talk to him. While walking arm in arm with each other, Manami says that this is so weird since she always thought she would get married to Asahi. Asahi chides her to not say something like that on her wedding day. But Manami says that her husband already knows it and he is happy to see Asahi as the little brother. Asahi replies that he is honored. However, Manami says that she will always like him the most and that he knows that, right? Asahi looks sad at that moment. Manami continues saying that her husband is a good guy and that he caught her heart even though she was already with Asahi...
Changing the subject, Asahi tells Manami that her dress looks weird and that she would look better with a simple one. Manami informs him that her husband said this looks good on her. Surprised, Asahi asks her whether they have chosen the dress together. Then he declares that one day, he will definitely come to take her back and he would have given his life to make her happy. Manami tears at that. She hugs Asahi again and says, “I love you, Asahi.” Asahi asks whether it's ok for her to say that on her wedding ceremony. Manami says that it is fine since they are siblings now. Asahi laughs and tells her in that case, he loves her too.
Shimana is thinking about the Landlord again. How she is still not used to seeing that the landlord is no longer there when she comes home, how when she realised it, she is thinking about looking for him, how he always entered the house by that particular door and how she longs for him to come home.
The next scene shows Miura coming back home and calling out the customary, “Tadaima (I'm home)” greeting which no one answers to. He holds out a cake box to a very listless and sad looking Shimana and Zen. He asks them whether they hate cakes. Both of them answer simultaneously, “Not really.” Miura goes, “Eh? So if you don't hate cakes, you hate me? You're so strict!” He threw the cake box rather roughly on the table. “What's with you two? Why can't we be friends?” he asked. “That cake was expensive! I'm doing my best like Fujiwara did.”
Shimana says, “More than cake, we would like to have news about the Landlord,”
Miura looks thoughtfully at her for a moment but then says, “That's impossible since I didn't hear anything from him.” Shimana then begs him to get out of the house. Miura replies that he can't do that since Fujiwara has asked him to take care of them. “So I will stay here and protect you,” Miura states. Looking very sorrowful, Shimana thinks that the Landlord didn't say anything and he didn't say why he left... Miura observes Shimana for a moment. After awhile, he sighs and says that he will tell them just one thing.
Apparently, on the day the Landlord left for Fukuoka, he has left for them a memo but his father told Miura not to give to Asahi, Shimana and Zen. Miura holds out three pieces of paper. Shimana looks shocked at that. Miura told them not to tell anyone about it and to keep it to themselves. He gave the three of them a paper each. Everyone is in happy disbelief- “No way? The landlord really wrote it?! Once for each of us!! There's our names! What should I do? I can't help crying when I read it? What did he write?”
Zen opens his. Written on it is “Saiko-chan is cute, right?” Zen indignantly yells, “What the hell is that?! Shut up, idiot!!” Shimana asks Asahi about his memo. Asahi's note has “Take a photo of Shimana!” written on it. Asahi is puzzled over the note, “Yes...I can do it...But is it really my message?” Shimana thinks to herself, “I wonder what he wrote to me...I shouldn't expect too much of it.” She opens the note and written on it are the words, “See you soon.” Shimana starts crying in relief - “I'm so glad!”
Miura is talking, “That Fujiwara, he was wondering what kind of face you would make when he said goodbye so that was why he left so early in the morning. He thought that you would be sad so that was why he left without telling a word.”
Shimana is thinking that the Landlord really treasures them. She thanks Miura happily and Miura looks a little touched at that show of gratitude.
The scene changes again to the hospital. Miura goes to visit Shiho again and he brings along with him a bouquet of flowers. Shiho is surprised as she has said before that she just wants one flower. Miura tells her that the bouquet is not something he brought just because she is in the hospital; it is a present for her. Shiho tries to stifle a laugh. Miura asks her why she laguhed. Shiho skirted the question by asking him the reason for bringing that flower. Miura says it's because today is special. Firstly, he wants to apologise for lying about having a girlfriend. Shiho is surprised. Miura explains that he was always coming here to see her face. He wanted to make her happy but one day, people would have to find out about it.
Miura: “You told me that you shared the same feeling as me. But I didn't know already if it was pity. It would have hurt you so I created a fake girlfriend.”
Shiho: “Eh?”
Miura: “Because I couldn't find a girlfriend that quickly so I created a fake one.”
Miura goes on to explain that even if he has a girlfriend, his feelings for her will not change. “I love your smile, Shiho-san. You're so full of energy and I love that. Shiho-san's smile, I want to protect it.” Shiho, feeling touched, starts to cry. “Eh?...You're lying?” she asked in between sobs. “That's not a lie!” Miura says. “Really? I'm so glad...It's like a dream...”
Miura stares at Shiho. He then continues to speak, “I wanted to apologise for a long time...And that day, I couldn't protect you. Sorry for not saving you...” Shiho-san smiles gently before saying, “I heard your voice. You watched me when I was sleeping. Miura kun, each time you came, I heard you telling me that you were sorry. I already heard it a hundred times.” Miura looks stunned - 'I see...so you heard it...”
Shiho: “Since I was in high school, my feelings never changed. I love you, Miura-kun, Because you'll be my hero forever.” Miura smiles upon hearing that. “Miura-kun! You smiled!” Shiho says.
Miura comes back home and calls out the customary greeting, “I'm home.”
“Welcome back,” a chorus of voices greets him back.
Miura is surprised, noticing that it is the first time the three of them have said it. Zen replies that his status has been raised as of that day. Miura says that he is happy to see that they are feeling grateful. He then throws something at them. It's a letter. Miura tells them that it was received today and not to tell anyone else. Asahi, Zen and Shimana look at him with round and shiny eyes. Shimana and Zen cry out, “Miura-san!! We love you!!”
The chapter ends with a narrative from Shimana - “The first letter from the landlord. There is his phone number and his address. And even...a key...”
Shmook's Notes – Hey, everyone. Thank you for reading this super long summary! I was given a translated script for this chapter and tasked with providing the summary, found myself having to put the script in prose form. I suddenly have this incredible feeling of love and empathy for all my translators. Typing a summary is not an easy task. Anyway, my apologies if this summary is too long. I am prone to long-windedness but this chapter involves different scenes for each character so there are a lot of things to describe. Lastly, I would like to thank Chibi Manga and Rosehip31 for their help. Hope you have enjoyed reading this chapter.
