Junjou Drop - Extra [ch 00]
The timing of love and that person is... unpredictable and unexpected.
The scene starts with Saki confessing to Aoyama in the classroom. It's her first ever confession. Aoyama tells her that he's sorry but he already has someone that he likes. Saki stands there with a smile pasted on her face and thinks to herself that she got rejected first thing in the morning, but it was her fault since she also confessed first thing in morning. She then tells Aoyama not to worry about it. She turns away and says that she's going to change out the water for the flowers. Aoyama tries to warn her that there is someone in front of her, but it's too late. She bumps into the guy and splashes water from the vase onto his face. The guy who got splashed with water is Akai Ryuuichi. Saki looks absolutely terrified as she thinks to herself that Ryuuichi is called the "The Demon Akai" by everyone because of his sharp gaze and evil aura that oozes out of him. She’s heard rumors about how people don't return home alive if they get within one meter of him. He’s someone that everyone avoids. Noticing that she is only 50 centimeters away from him, Saki can't stop shaking as she squeaks an apology. Then the morning bell sounds. Saki is sitting in the classroom, looking stunned as she thinks that this is the worst day of her life and that she is cursed. Akai is wearing his gym clothes in class. The teacher notices and asks him where his uniform is. Akai responds that he forgot it, while Saki looks down at her book, terrified. She wants to transfer to another high school as quickly as possible.
Saki and two friends are by the shoe lockers. One girl tells her that she has to be careful that Akai won't kidnap her, and the other girl says she heard that if you make Akai mad, he will shoot a beam from his eyes and if it hits you, you will lose your hair. Saki nervously wonders what she should do since she definitely made him mad and he looked like a demon (although that's his usual face). Her friends switch topics quickly and ask about her confession and Aoyama's rejection. Saki sheepishly replies that it kind of just happened. Her friends suggest that they stop somewhere on the way home so they can talk about it more, but Saki says that she can't since she has to pick up her younger brother at preschool. As she turns to go, she notices Akai standing by the wall, staring at her. Saki freezes and wonders if he overheard her talking to her friends and calling him a demon. She rushes off, telling her friends that she will text them later. She then wonders if Akai also saw her get rejected that morning. She worries that he may try to threaten her and imagines him extorting money from her (5,000,000 yen). She tells herself that she will try not to let it bother her.
At the preschool Saki's brother, Masaki, is standing next to a cute little girl in pigtails. Masaki happily greets Saki. Saki apologizes to him about being late and he tells her that it's okay because he was playing with Kokona, the little girl in pigtails. Kokona says hello to Saki. Saki asks her if she's waiting to be picked up, and Kokona replies that Ryuu-chan is picking her up because her mom can't make it. Saki wonders who Ryuu-chan is. Kokona points and says, "Ah! Ryuu-chan!" as Saki turns to look. It's Akai Ryuuichi! He says, "Hey", with a serious look. Saki is shocked. She quickly bows her head and tells Akai that she's sorry about today and thanks him for Kokona always playing with Masaki. Akai replies that Kokona is his older sister's child, and since she couldn't pick up Kokona, he stepped in. Kokona tells Akai that she wants to stop by the park and play with Masaki on the way home. Akai tells her just for a little bit. Akai starts to walk off with Kokona and Masaki, who are excited to go and play in the park. Saki sputters to Makasi to wait a minute. Akai turns back and says to Saki that it’s good timing because he wants to talk to her. Saki gulps.
At the park, Saki is sitting awkwardly next to Akai and screaming "help me!" in her mind while the two kids play. Saki squeaks out that she doesn’t have any money, and Akai replies that he wouldn’t take any. He tells her that he may look like a demon, but he won’t blackmail her. Shocked, Saki thinks "he heard us!" Akai goes on to say that what he wanted to talk to her about was Kokona. Next week is Kokona’s birthday and he asks Saki what would be a good present to get her. Saki looks over at him in surprise. Akai names a few things and then says that he doesn’t really know what preschoolers like. Saki thinks that if he knows about those kinds of things, it’s more than enough. Akai tells Saki that he thought about asking for her opinion after hearing that she has a brother in preschool and that he doesn’t have anyone else to ask. Saki stammers back that since her brother’s a boy, she really doesn’t know about a little girl’s… Akai replies, "Oh, okay…" Saki then suggests that he ask Kokona directly what she wants. He says that if he asks Kokona, she will answer that just being with Ryuu-chan is good enough. Saki thinks to herself that he’s a Lolicon (*someone who’s interested in little girls). Akai says to her, "You’re thinking I’m a Lolicon, right? Saki replies, "Of course not!" while looking guilty. Akai says that it really doesn’t matter and then goes on to tell her that life is full of ups and downs and that one or two setbacks… then he gets a little flustered and says that maybe he’s not saying it right but that you accomplish anything if you remain upbeat. Saki smiles at him and asks if he saw her get rejected. He tells her that he didn’t mean to witness it. She says that it’s her fault for willfully confessing and then getting rejected. Akai responds that it takes a lot of courage to confess and she shouldn’t say that she’s wrong just because she was rejected. Saki stares at him with a stunned look. Akai rubs his head, saying that maybe he said too much. Saki explains that she liked Aoyama for a long time and got to know him better when they were committee members together. When she arrived at the classroom in the morning, he was already there and greeted her so nicely that she thought maybe he felt the same way about her. So that was the reason why she got carried away, confessed, and got rejected. Akai glances over at her and indicates that he understands and that it must have been painful. Saki starts to cry.
Saki is really crying hard as Akai moves away from her slightly. Masaki and Kokona notice and Kokona blames Akai for making Saki cry. Akai denies it, but Masaki demands to know what Akai did to make Saki cry and says that he won’t forgive Akai. Akai again tries to explain, but Kokona slaps him on the cheek and yells that he shouldn’t make excuses. Masaki punches Akai in the groin, screaming "a killer chance!" Akai, bent over and shaking in pain, growls "you two!" and chases after them, while Saki is wiping her tears but still crying. Akai catches the kids and smiles as they laugh while he’s carrying them. Saki thinks to herself that all day she’s felt down about being a real idiot, but thanks to Akai she feels a little bit saved. She really gave it her best shot. Saki sees Akai laughing as each kid dangles on one of Akai's arms. She smiles through her tears. Masaki tells Saki as they walk home that he thinks Ryuu-chan is funny and he likes him. Saki chuckles and says that she likes Akai too. The scary Akai is not scary at all, but a mysterious person.
The next day at school, Saki enters the classroom and sees Aoyama. He smiles at her and tells her good morning. She pauses for a moment and then smiles in relief and tells him good morning back. Her two friends ask her if she’s okay and notice that she looks like she’s in a good mood. Saki responds, "Yes, I’m great." Her friend tells her that she should move on to her next love since the best way to cure a broken heart is to find a new love. Saki wonders about that and then notices Akai sitting in his seat, looking gruff. The other classmates are talking about him, saying that he recently he looks more scary and that they don’t want to get close to him. Saki looks thoughtful. Saki is sitting on the park bench with Akai who talks about a Tamogotchi iD (*handheld digital pet) for Kokona. He went to the toy store and saw a bunch of them, but he couldn’t afford the price. Saki realizes that he looks mad because he’s upset that the toy cost so much. Kokona asks excitedly if she’s going to have a birthday party. She says that she wants to have a party with lots of cake and candy. Akai asks her if she’s okay with just a party and she says that it’s fine. Akai tells her that they can have a party at her house and will let her mom know. Kokona is so happy and invites Masaki to her party. Kokona invites Saki as well. Saki looks over at Akai and wonders if it’s okay. Akai tells her to please come for Kokona’s sake. Saki blushes and agrees to go with a small smile. She thinks that Akai really treasures Kokona. Her friends are shocked that she’s going to a birthday party for Akai’s niece. They can’t understand why she’s not scared of him. Saki tells them that he’s not scary at all, and he’s just a gentle "Lolicon". Saki thinks that even though she doesn’t know about finding a new love, she feels healed when she’s with Akai.
Saki, Akai, and Masaki tell Kokona "Happy Birthday!" as she blows out the candles on her cake. Saki gives Kokona a present from her and Masaki. It's flowers (which Masaki picked out) and Kokona is really happy. Kokona’s mom serves the food and thanks them for coming to the party. She asks Saki if she goes to pick up Masaki every day. Saki replies that she does because both of their parents are busy working. Saki mentions that it looks like Kokona is going to be an older sister soon, and Kokona’s mom pats her belly, laughs and says that they don’t know if it’s a boy or girl yet. She gets up to go and get the drinks, but Akai tells her that he can do it and she should just rest. She retorts that she’s not an invalid. Akai glares at her and tells her, "No. What happens if you fall down? Just sit quietly." Kokona’s mom turns to Saki and makes a face as Akai walks away. She tells Saki that even though he looks like that, he is really kind. Saki laughs and agrees. Kokona’s mom goes on to say that he takes care of Kokona too, and it really helps her out. Saki looks over at Akai who is half-heartedly scolding the two kids for hanging onto his legs while he’s carrying a bottle of juice. Kokona’s mom smiles and says that he’s had a hard time making friends because of the way he looks, but Saki seems to get along well with him. Saki smiles and responds, "Yes!"
Saki and Akai walk down the street, while Masaki sleeps on Akai’s shoulder. Saki apologizes for Masaki not being able to wake up and says that she can carry him. Akai tells her that it’s okay, but Saki looks flustered and tells him that it’s fine to wake him up because their home is far away and he is heavy. Akai responds that Masaki is sleeping so well it would be bad to wake him up and to stop worrying. Saki apologizes. Akai thanks her for coming today because it made Kokona happy. Saki thanks him back for inviting them and says that she had a good time. She tells him that his sister seems nice. Akai says, "Not really. Sometimes she needs a little kick, but now that’s she’s pregnant, she’s obedient." Saki laughs at his comment. Akai says that it’s good that she got married. Saki hopes that his sister has a healthy birth. Then Akai asks her if she’s doing fine. He says that it must be awkward to see Aoyama everyday at school. Saki replies that it’s not like that. She was worried at first, but Aoyama treats her normally, so even though it would be a lie to say that it’s not awkward, it’s really okay. Akai smiles at her nicely and says that she fell in love with a great guy. Saki looks at him, stunned. "Oh, no!" she thinks as tears start to build. She calls his name, and Akai, looking worried, asks if he said something wrong again. Saki tries not to cry as she struggles to tell him that he didn’t say anything wrong, but that he’s… he’s… he’s really great. Akai looks confused as Masaki wakes up and punches Akai in the face, yelling "a killer chance!", and then falls back asleep. Saki wipes her eyes and thinks that Akai’s words have one-by-one warmed her and penetrated the holes in her heart.
Akai finds out that Saki’s family owns a flower shop and the flowers that they gave to Kokona were also from the shop. Saki thanks him for carrying Masaki all the way home. Akai tells her that it’s no problem. As Saki watches him go, she thinks "a new love… huh." and then shouts, "Akai-kun! Thanks!!" Akai stops and turns around with his finger to his mouth, whispering "Shhh. You’ll wake him up." Fortunately, Masaki doesn’t wake up. Akai grins and gives a wave good-bye. Saki smiles and waves back. Saki enters her room and glances over at a picture frame on her desk. It’s a picture of Aoyama smiling at the camera with Saki in the background. She thinks that it’s useless to drag it out forever and turns the picture face down on her desk. It’s time to move forward.
Saki arrives very early to school, carrying flowers. She stops at the classroom when she sees that Aoyama is already there. He’s a little surprised to see her but smiles warmly and says, "Good morning, Momota-san." Saki smiles back and tells him good morning. He mentions that she’s early today and she replies that she wanted to change out the flowers. Aoyama compliments the flowers. Saki asks him if he already did morning practice. He laughs and says that he did a little too much and now he’s sleepy. Saki remembers what Akai told her yesterday that she fell in love with a great guy and realizes that it’s not awkward because Aoyama made it okay. She calls his name and tells him that when she first saw him perform with the drama club (Aoyama in a fish costume, yelling at "his parents" to eat more fish), she fell in love with him. Ever since that show, she dreamt about him every night, acting like the enemy of parents. Aoyama laughs and looks embarrassed. She tells him that he has a lot of good points and that he’s a very attractive person, so the person that he loves will definitely love him back. Saki smiles at him and says that she’s glad that fell in love with him and she hopes everything works out well for him. He happily thanks her. Goodbye, my love, she thinks. She turns to go and change out the water. Aoyama tries to stop her but she bumps into someone and splashes water on their face. It’s Akai again! Akai looks disgruntled as Saki apologizes.
Saki is sitting next to Akai on the park bench. She looks really embarrassed and tells him that she’s sorry for today. Akai, wearing regular clothes (not his uniform), tells her that it’s not a big deal and that he has something to talk to her about. He wants to know what he should get Kokona for Christmas. Saki looks surprised and says that it’s still September. Akai responds that he doesn’t want to fail again, so he’s needs to figure out what to get quickly and be prepared. There’s also the issue of Santa. Until what age, does he pretend to be Santa for her? He knows that one day she will find out that there is no Santa, but he doesn’t want to see her sad. As he’s talking, Saki thinks that it might be hard to love someone like him. He notices that she’s not paying attention and asks if anything is wrong. She says, "No, not really." Masaki and Kokona want Akai to play with them. He tells them okay and stands up. Saki says to wait up, she wants to play too. She trips on a rock and Akai catches her. He tells her to be careful as she steps back and apologizes. The kids tell them to hurry up and Akai goes off to join them. Saki is blushing with her hands on her cheeks, thinking that even though she hadn’t thought about finding a new love, it began on its own, and it’s nothing that anyone can stop. In the background, the kids are telling Akai that they want to slide over there and he says okay. Kokona tells him to come here and when he squats down, she kisses him on the cheek. She tells him that it is thanks for the birthday party. She then tells Masaki that she will give him a thank you kiss, too. He says, "What?" Saki looks bemused and hopes that somehow her next love will go well. The extra chapter ends with Akai telling Kokona that it’s not good to act like a loose girl, and Saki thinking that her rival is Kokona.
