The chapter begins with Gen’s sister looking for Gen “Gen! Gen Chan? Oh there you are! Have you renewed your passport?” and Gen replies back with a confused look “What?” and she proceeds to tell him of the family trip to France that the family had planned. Gen claims to have no idea and refuses to go. After a moment of silence, Gen says, “I would be willing to go to the Dominican Republic” and when their mother comes home Gens sister tells her “Mom, Gen wants to go to the Dominican Replublic!” and Gen says “no, I was only joking.” The three sit down to eat cake and Gens mother wants to know what Gen will do during the summer. He says that he will do homework and his sister interjects saying “But we already got tickets” so they decide to invite somebody else. His sister tells Gen that they will be leaving next week and asks if he will okay on his own. He tells her everything will be fine and she asks him to upload the pictures from Shima’s father and Wao’s mothers wedding. He looks through the pictures.
In a flashback, he is remembering running into Haruka at the wedding. Gen asks Haruka what she is doing there and Haruka says, “Well then what are you doing here” and Gen replies, “I’m Wao’s friend”. To this Haruka replies back saying that she is Shima’s friend so she has just as much a right to be here as him! Gen’s sister interrupts saying, “Gen chan, the food place is right upstairs” and Gen replies back saying he knows. Haruka laughs to herself about Gen being called Gen-chan by his sister. The two stand side by side and admire the wedding party, Haruka comments on how pretty Wao’s mother looks and how happy Wao looks. She also begins saying “You know what Gen? Wao probably…” when the flashback ends and Gen is seen calling Shima.
Shima answers the phone and thanks Gen for sending her pictures of the wedding, but she also comments that she is blinking in many of them. To this Gen answers, “I don’t care” and hangs up. Shima is pissed off he hung up on her so rudely. As she looks through the pictures she remembers how quiet Gen was. She wonders if maybe it was because she invited Haruka? She then begins to laugh to herself and say “No, No, of course not. Gen isn’t necessarily a part of the family either.” Shima’s dad is seen calling her from downstairs.
Shima goes downstairs and he asks her “Are there any books you’d like to throw away?” Shima tells him to wait and she’ll go check her room. She asks her father “Is this all the stuff you’re throwing away?” and he replies Yes, but she convinces him out of throwing everything away because Wao might want to read some of those books. Shima realizes that this will be the room that her father and Wao’s mother will live in and that another room will be Wao’s room. At this point, it finally hits her that this is really happening and that Wao’s family is moving in.
Wao is sitting staring out the window in his soon to be old house when Gen walks in and comments on how empty it is. Wao answers saying “Yeah, we never had too much stuff anyway.” Gen then asks how far away his new house will be from here and Wao answers “30 seconds” and Gen answers “so close”. Wao is wiping the windows of the house and thanks it for allowing him to live here all these years. Shima’s father and Wao’s mother come into the house and tells Wao that they bought a sofa for Sumire. The three are laughing when the movers come and tell them that the piano is here.
In a flashback, Wao remembers how he came to have the piano. Gen’s sister Yumi had given him the small children’s piano because she had grown out of it.
Shima, her father, Wao, and his mother are all laughing and talking about what to eat because Shima has gotten hungry. Wao turns around and calls out to Gen, but then realizes that Gen has left.
Gen is eating cup ramen at his house when the doorbell rings. He sees that it is Wao and he comes in and asks, “Why did you quietly leave?” Gen answers that he feels weird being at that house because it is a stranger’s house and that he feels like he has to be invited in. Gen then asks if Wao has a fever and Wao nods, but tells Gen that it is okay because it is winter break and he’ll get a lot of sleep. Gen tells Wao “You now live in a nice house, have a sister and a great father” and Wao adds that “my mom also only works part-time in the afternoon now” Gen offers Wao a soda, but he declines and instead thanks him for everything that he’s done for him. Gen is shocked and goes “What… is this a goodbye or something?” and Wao replies “no. no, just feel like you’ve done a lot for me” and Gen replies “don’t think that way, I wanted to do everything” but Wao still feels like Gen has done a lot for him. Gen replies, “Is it the money” and Wao replies “Yeah the money too Gen. You think money can't buy happiness right? But the thing is, it can up to a certain point. Even though you probably don’t understand because you’ve always had it” Wao then begins to laugh and Gen asks, “What are you laughing about?” Wao continues to laugh and apologizes. He then says “I’m laughing because I don’t want you to think I’m saying all of this will any spite or ill-feeling, but then I realized that I probably am saying this with spitee and ill-feeling. That’s pretty much It.” and Gen replies “Did you not like having me do things for you?” and Wao sits staring into space.
Shima is talking on the phone with Haruka. Shima tells Haruka about the move and Haruka asks where Wao is. Shima replies “At Gen’s” and Haruka says, “Those two are so persistent.” Haruka also comments on how quiet Gen was at the wedding and Shima remembers that she saw the two of them talking and asks if she made any progress in her love life. To this, Haruka replies that she said it and Shima mistakes the “it” for a love confession and freaks out. Haruka quickly says that it wasn’t a love confession but instead she told Gen that Wao probably won’t rely on you anymore. In a flashback, Haruka is seen explaining to Gen that Wao already has many others to rely on such as Shima and Gen replies back that him and Wao have a long history! Haruka returns to her phone conversation with Shima and apologizes to Shima because Gen probably hates both her and Shima right now.
The scene returns back to Wao and Gens conversation and Wao is telling Gen “I hate that you’re so caught up in this.”
While thinking about Wao and Gen, Shima is thinking to herself about how alone Gen feels because her and father have stole Gen from them. Shima is seen hugging Sumire and commenting on how nice she smells.
In a letter/diary entry from Shima’s mother it is written: Shima! You are finally living with your new family. You must be veeery busy! I’m glad she seems like a good person even though I’m shocked she’s so pretty. It’s almost like a manga that you’re new brother is a classmate! You’ve had many fathers, but no siblings so you must be excited! Oh and your mother has gotten fat. ahaha
