I wonder what she means by it was all on purpose. Her coming to the festival to see Kou? Telling Futaba about the kiss? Did she ask her friend to call Kou right at that time because she'd know he'd come to her? It almost sounds like she planned with her friends to get closer to Kou or something. But can't be sure until the next chapterr.

Probably the kiss. She is afraid of losing Kou because she knows for sure Kou has feeling for Futaba and she feels the same. If they get together then she will be all alone..at least that is what I think

Yeah, same here. There are so many reasons.. your reasons as well as the ones your replies gave are all really good and possible! One more reason that I was thinking of is perhaps her family situation at home. Like her mom or relatives planned whatever (like the marriage and having her live with her relatives) and what is kou going to do to comfort her or help her.

Well this chapter sucked but thank you so much for translating it. I may wait a few chapters before reading it again. I really can't stand Kou right now. I know he has his reason but I think if he is going to focus on Narumi, then he should make up his mind about that because his action says otherwise and Futaba is left hoping and getting hurt.

To be honest and realistically, Kou is an asshole and deserves a slap in his stupid face. Futaba should give up on him, If he has honest feelings for her, then he should be the one fighting for her! Okay, it was Futabas fault at first, she should have direct the conversation in a different way, but what Kou did is something no one should tolerate! What he did to Futaba is rude, disrespectful and painful. Futaba is such a good girl... :(

Well, Narumi and Kou fit together - now they can feel sorry for each other; they want to be pitied.

i totally agree with you..he should have at least told her that he likes her or otherwise so that futaba will not be in limbo guessing if she has a place in his heart/life, so she can move on if she has to..i liked how touma was with her to show that he can be the other choice..i hoped that after this futaba will be with touma..i used to love kou until chapter 21 but now i don't like him that much anymore..he pulls and pushes futaba then leaves her hanging..he is too engrossed playing hero..since he is being like that then he should be with narumi and leave futaba alone..

Such an idiot. To me, I don't need excuses like "I had my reasons for acting like this, because [...]" - no excuses, please. There is no reason to hurt anyone. What a mean person.

But this is soooo similar to the situation in Bokura ga ita. Now that I'm reading this I have less of a tolerance for heroic endeavors that make nooooo sense. I understand a little bit of support and all of that, but he has FINALLY found something happy to look forward to. Hes moving too many steps backwards! He hasn't even fixed himself. It's like, you can't save a drowning person when youve only learned how to properly breathe

Thanks for your hard work!! I'm without words right now, I mean, I expect Kou behaving like an asshole in this chapter but he went beyond my expectations. Being with someone just for pity, it's unhealthy for both of them. And what he did to Futaba... well I really hope she ignores him for a while, really now, she deserves better!! Touma is a good option!

so i guess this means that kou chose narumi over futaba..?well i hope that touma will be with futaba now for real..i think it's about time that the other guy wins the heroine already..i used to wish that kou and futaba will be together but now it's time to move on from kou..4 years of liking him should be enough...with all the things she had done for him and all the things he had done to let her down, he doesn't deserve her..

I agree with most about this chapter except this she needs to get together with Touma stuff. Why? Is it a must that she needs to get with someone and FYI she doesn't like him that way no matter who much you wish. If she did jump to him suddenly then I'd hate her character just as much as I do Kou's at the moment.

I agree that Futaba does not like Touma in that way but how can she? She has been so focused on Kou that she has no time to look at anyone else. Maybe what Kou did will finally make her look the other way. Also, I dont think they mean in the next chapter Futaba should get together with Touma but I think the hope is that Futaba will start looking at Touma in another way and possibly consider to be with him than just waiting and pinning for Kou. You got to admit, at this point in the story Kou definitely does not deserve to be with Futaba. Kou is basically raising and killing Futaba (making her have false hope). Its not fair to anyone. If he wants to be with Narumi, then he should make it clear to Futaba that it is never going to happen so she can move on. It's a little ridiculous to wait around the corner until Kou is free from his "responsibility." What if Narumi never gets over it? (OK this is a manga so that would probably never happened) but if that is the case, does that mean Futaba will have to wait forever too?

Futaba needs to find her way. Finding romance or a boyfriend in a short time because of an broken heart would be ridicoulos.

I knew that there was going to be some drama after the lovey-dovey chapter but I've had enough with Kou's responsibility of Narumi. Fine Kou, if you choose Narumi over Futaba then be my guest, I don't like fickle guys. Even after Kominato's efforts and persuasion to talk it down with him, he still doesn't back off so whatever. He even hugged Narumi in front of Futaba. What is that? a minute ago you were kissing her blushing and now you have another girl in your arms. Hopefully Futaba will calm down, get over it, and live her life to the fullest without focusing her whole mind on Kou.

like i get why kou is being nice to narumi, but honestly he does not have to go so far in watching over her.

kou is being really mean, one moment being really close, giving futaba hopes and making her feel special, the next minute just let her hopes crash down to earth. he is also being unfair to narumi, he knows that narumi likes him and IF he has no feelings for her then dont stick so close to her, thats just giving her hopes and feeling that oh she really must depend on him and she needs him. he is just making things much more difficult for himself to chase after futaba later on...

Yeah he is being really unfair. Breaking all our hearts, not just Futaba's!! And yeah, I don't think he has feelings for Narumi (right now). But I think at the end of this chapter, he is choosing Narumi over Futaba. No more wishy washiness/stringing her around (well of course that is his intention I believe, but as we all know, what people say and what people do are 2 totally different things, and if he really chose that for REAL then this manga would be over basically so lol I doubt he can keep this facade up). He showed her his decision, too. It was just in a very very cruel way.

As of right now, I wish both Kou and Narumi will step in front of a speeding truck. I can't even say how frustrated I am by this chapter. If Kou is playing the hero card then I don't want him to end up with Futaba at all. GG-kun is a good choice but I will feel sorry for him because he will have to endure the fact that Futaba can't quite get over Kou. UGHHH I'm so hating this situation.

What I want now is that Futaba be happy with GG-kun so that Kou can watch and eat his own heart out and sulk at how unhappy he is with Narumi!!! AGRHHH screw manners!! KOU IS A FREAKING D***HEAD!!!

Ahhhhh! I am so frustrated by this chapter!!! I loved the last one but this angst is stressful. I feel really bad for Futaba after all this. Of course she won't be able to turn her feelings off but since Touma is willing to accompany her, I hope she'll hang out with him and avoid Kou. (as long as Touma keeps being aware that she doesn't feel that way about him) I don't know if I want her and Kou to end up together anymore since he really has been so cavalier about her feelings, always throwing her off as if her feelings aren't worth as much as others like Narumi's or his. It would totally serve him right if she fell out of love with him and sincerely loved someone else. Go ahead and be a lonely tortured hero, Kou. Grrrr... Futaba deserves happiness herself.

I'm replying to a lot of ppl because this chapter evokes so much reaction in me! (and clearly in other ppl as well). That's interesting what you brought up about Strobe Edge because I also thought that Aoharaido is better, and at the time, SE was so good, I didn't know I'd read another one I loved so much. I think I might still like Aoharaido more even though Kou is being.. terrible. I'll see how things turn out. But when I read this chapter, I thought about how it reminded me of SE and Ren's situation. And I thought this mangaka must like that theme of how staying with someone out of obligation is a really complicated mess. And yeah, crazy how the "other girl" characters like Narumi can make you so mad. Anyway, there must be so many more chapters in this manga because no way can they resolve this shortly.

Haha! I was so mad that I wrote that, I guess.. Though it would be really difficult to choose between the two because they're both wonderful in their own ways. And Aoha's not even completed yet. GAH! I didn't expect things to turn out this way. I knew it wouldn't be a happy ending all of a sudden for Kou and Futaba but wow, Sakisaka-sensei really knows how to surprise us, huh? It's like, we must expect the unexpected and prepare our hearts in every chapter. It did remind me of Ren's situation as well, although I think what Ren did in SE was pretty reasonable, because they were going out so I can't really put all the blame on him unlike with Kou, and Mayuka didn't annoy me as much as Narumi did. She's by far the most annoying character in all Sakisaka Io's work. >_< Yeah, there's more to come, and I really can't wait to see them, or at least chapter 23.. I was on the verge of dropping this but I'll wait for the next chapter and decide from there. I'm looking forward for a stronger Futaba that won't chase after Kou this time!!

Coming from someone who was convincing herself for the past 21 chapters that Kou is not an jerk, well guess what?! I am officially off board cause Kou's ship is definitely sinking. Does this guy like self-destruct? this chapter has made me realize that what Futaba has for kou are those feelings from when they were in middle school nothing more, cause looking at him now HE IS ONE HELL OF A JERK. from someone who didn't even like Touma in the beginning, I find him more of a man than Kou, plus this chapter made me realize that they fit each other perfectly with those cute big puppy eyes. BUT OMG IM SOOO ANGRRRYYY with Kou, I can understand him telling Futaba that he can't be by her side, or simply ignore (AS USUAL) but did he really have to hurt her like that?! in your face rejection!!! Yeah, it's crazy, and I am not a fan of narumi either. Well, they are both maidens in love! Okay, even though I don't like Narumi, in her defense of why she's near the school, well it's the same night as the festival, so it's probably not as if she had *so* much time to walk home/to the station. And also, when you're upset, don't you just stop somewhere and think (ie the park on your way home)? Okay okay, that's it! Just my opinions.

I was so mad when I wrote that and I didn't think properly! XD That was definitely a bad chapter to wake up to. No, it was rather surprising and unexpected so props to Sakisaka Io for making such drama!

Honestly I think everyone made the wrong move at the wrong time for the last three chapters which leads up to this. Well, that's sorta the point of the story anyway lol

I don't hate anyone but I still find Narumi's wrongdoings kind of annoying. She did realised what she had done in the end though so I hope it'll get resolved soon. So much love for this series isn't it? :D

well here's what i think of the whole situation. it's a bit unfair for kou to get all of this hate--- both are to blame. we have to remember that kou's a troubled individual. he watched his mother waste away from cancer while he was too busy studying and whatnot and sorely regrets not having spent enough time with her. he's still distant from his immediate family. futaba helped some but then we have narumi enter the picture with her father's funeral in nagasaki and i imagine that some of those feelings of regret are dragged back to the surface. perhaps kou views narumi as a way to make up for what he thinks he was unable to do for his mother? basically i just think there's a lot more to the chapter than what's on the surface. people are reacting very emotionally and i'm not saying that's wrong, but we should all try to reread the chapter more carefully and derive some meaning from the conversations and definitely take the series as a whole into account. that helps shed some light on kou's entire thought process.

now let's take a look at futaba and kou's conversation and kou and kominato's. things get lost in translation, seeing as how it's translated from japanese to chinese and then english. we'll have to wait for chibi-manga/bikkuri to get more meaning. nuance is super important here because a lot of what's being said seems so vague to me.

so taking this into account, it kind of seems like kominato's talking about the kiss as if it were a hypothetical situation. "in reality, even if that did happen.... even if you kissed her, it doesn't matter." maybe i'm reading too much into this, but it does seem like narumi lied about the kiss. she deliberately said that to futaba because of jealousy or something. remember narumi's expression when futaba asked how she knew the accidental kiss probably wasn't kou's first time? she said something like oh... that probably wasn't a good idea to say.

futaba really leapt to an immediate conclusion there. narumi says it probably wasn't kou's first time. instead of asking if narumi knew kou kissed someone, she says oh perhaps the person kou kissed was you...? and narumi doesn't confirm or deny it. that panel of her reaction sort of conveyed a slightly taken aback reaction? like oh uh... that wasn't what i was getting at... but i can work with this?

i actually believe that narumi planned this with her friend/the person who's been calling kou on the phone all the time about narumi. she was on the phone with someone and said kou-chan's festival was fun but..... but what? there's this girl that he's really close with? i feel like she wanted to use this opportunity to get closer to kou but she didn't expect futaba to be in the picture, just like futaba didn't expect her to be around.

anyway kou is obviously troubled that narumi apparently told futaba that they had kissed before. because why would she do that? she isn't the type to say something without purpose, right? not to mention, narumi never expliclity said that... she just didn't deny what futaba immediately concluded and simply said oh... that was probably a bad idea for me to say that and it's sort of... passively lying? like letting futaba believe what she wants and boom, we have an insecure futaba screwing things up for herself with kou. so kou most likely concluded that narumi felt he was ignoring her in favor of futaba, which ultimately drove her to mislead futaba into believing she and kou kissed. i really do think she was lying about that based on the conversation with kominato.

if that's the case, then perhaps what kou was doing earlier was just covering up for narumi because ahhh, he has that weird savior complex and he's such a good friend. i feel like he would have eventually confronted futaba and talked it out with her, but then that phone call from the mysterious friend came in (part of why i think this is all planned haha) and he ran after narumi. now remember what kou was told in that conversation. one, narumi's mother/stepfather don't want anything to do with h

kou's not a dishonest person i think, but he has problems with communicating and he's a bit passive. he's also too compassionate and can emphatize with narumi because he's been in the same situation before, so he can't just turn his back on her since he knows how hard it is to have no one to turn to. he has that support group now but she doesn't and he feels like it's his duty to stay by her side. i don't think he has romantic feelings for her-- he's just a really really good friend. in that one chapter where kominato discovered kou's old notebook with futaba's name in it and urges him to confess to futaba, kou says something about how he doesn't think it's the right time for that sort of thing? having a love life/girlfriend? i don't think kou would feel entirely comfortable being romantically involved with futaba knowing the situation narumi's in. and that just worsens futaba's insecurities.

which brings me to another point... if it's true that narumi lied about the kiss and kou was just covering up, he probably felt fairly hurt by futaba's accusation that he's "just that kind of guy?" futaba's insecurities led her to make that conclusion and it definitely shows in her inner monologues/dialogue. which just says to me that futaba needs to grow up and mature outside of her interactions with kou, you know? take some time off from being around him and figure herself out, because even if they had gotten together at this point... she would have just kept being insecure around narumi and what have you. basically futaba's insecurities lends itself to her bad tendency to jump to conclusions and kou needs to learn to speak up and clearly say what's on his mind. because otherwise he appears rather cruel to futaba and fickle in his preferences.

ahhhh but yeah. i find that all this kou hate is a bit unnecessary at this point. if you take the whole series into account, you can justify kou's actions-- though of course you can still be frustrated with him. i know i certainly am, haha. it's just there's a lot more to it than oh, kou hugging narumi like that means he clearly rejected futaba. ah before i forget, if you go back to that last conversation with kou and narumi. narumi's all, everything... everything (i said) was on purpose. what are you going to do now, kou-chan? and she's crying the whole time, so... this kind of supports the theory that she lied to futaba with somewhat underhanded intentions and pretty much regrets it now? like oh wow i really messed things up for you with that girl, what are you going to do now?

Great comment!!! (well, commentS lol.) You bring up really great points, and yeah I said Kou was being terrible in other comments of mine, but I really do feel that his actions can be justified as well. I feel terrible for Futuba, but what I really feel more is that Kou is in a huge pickle, and even though his obligations hurt Futaba, both his friend/obligations and Fu are still important to him. I mean, people are people, I don't think you can't just cut off ties and say "Oh i'm just going to focus on you" when you have a friend going through the worst time of her life, and you can relate so much, and she doesn't have someone else that can relate with her. I just think that at this point in their lives, they should forget about dating. It's just too hard and bad timing. Future, though, yes!
And omg what you said about underneath the surface and Narumi not really having kissed Kou! That kinda freaked me out seriously, because I feel like that could be so true but also like... this complete reveal that we don't know yet (and that I didn't even consider until your comment), so this revelation freaks me out! But now that you mention it, I really see what you mean! And that makes Narumi's last sentence make a lot more sense.
I just have one thing I disagree with you on!! Matter of my opinion. Obviously things will be clearer in the next chapter (or... more complicated... noo), but my opinion of Kou's last scene of hugging Narumi was actually him choosing Narumi. (maybe not necessarily romantically and as the end pairing of the manga, but perhaps saying that he can't be with Fu romantically b/c he has to stay by Narumi's side as a friend. Or possibly BF, but i'm not sure about that) Because I think if Narumi was really revealing to him that she "lied," then she is probably confessing to him again that she likes him and that's why she did/said those things. And her asking "what are you going to do kou" and him reacting with a hug is saying that it's okay, he's not angry, and that he'll be with her (platonically or romantically, IDK). Because if he just wanted to say it's okay, he didn't have to hug her while looking at Futaba! His forgiveness and words would have been enough. He could have hugged her later... it wasn't like she was super crying. I also think he made the decision in the end to be with Narumi b/c like you said he didn't deny the kiss with narumi (though like you said, not b/c he really did kiss her), so I think he was on the fence and wasn't sure to be by Narumi's side or to be with Futaba. If he really chose Fu, he could have denied it.... And then he chases Narumi after thinking about how he has friends and family and Narumi has no one.
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if my opinion was so much a disagreeing opinion as it was just kinda different. Well maybe it was disagreeing, i'm not sure. That's it, I'm tired of typing!

yeah, the hug thing is pretty difficult to interpret though--- i personally think kou reached his arm out to cover narumi's face from view since she was crying and to actually deter futaba from coming any closer because there would be a chance of narumi confessing her ill intentions. remember when kou hid futaba's face from view when she was crying? same thing going on with narumi.

I understand your points! I thinki the problem is that there is no communication between Kou and Futaba, Kou has suffered, but Futaba has too, and let me tell you that even when she was trying to get close to him, she did not lie like Narumi, she didn't give her pity to him, but compassion, and helped him face his fears and problemas with a different view, I think that covering Natsumi is not a very wise way to help her overcome her issues!,

KOU is very stupid.. but, maybe there's a reason why he did that.. but, i wonder, why did kou kissed narumi? i thought it was forced by narumi but it wasnt.. geez! this chapter makes me think that kou chose narumi over futaba.. i was also looking forward to this chapter because i thought they will be boyfriend and girlfriend since they kissed in the chapter 21.. haayyss.. i dont know what to think anymore! but i hope that futaba and kou will become boyfriend and girlfriend already.. and i hope that narumi will go to a far place so that no one can interfere with futaba and kou.. haayyss..

Okay I typed so much in replies to other comments, but I hope ppl won't mind one last comment tonight!
Thank you guys!!!!! Thank you Estella and BxS manga!! While I'm at it, thank you 小野猫战队★PscForce and of course Sakisaka Io. Now that that's done... Oh my god noo! That was the worst possible ending! Well, it could have been crueler (ie kiss) but it went pretty far into a bad ending!!! By bad I mean, the worst thing that could happen for Futaba and Kou's relationship, not the actual manga is bad. Getting to the end, I was just hoping that it wouldn't be that Fu gets there right when kou's gonna do something! And yep that happened. Summing up my main thoughts on this so far, yeah that was a terrible/cruel thing to do at the end!!! And it's upsetting that he keeps on going to Narumi, BUT I don't blame him... I mean, I feel like it's not wrong to help a friend in such a low point of her life. Other friends of her I'm sure cannot relate to her or be able to comfort her like Kou, who can relate, would be able to. But at the same time, I feel like Kou has been really selfish regarding Futaba and her feelings. Getting jealous regarding Touma/Fu, getting close to her, and finally really kissing her and just short of confessing (self explanatory kiss that is not so self explanatory to Fu). And then he goes back to acting cold sometimes or in this case, choosing Narumi. But he is not dating Futaba right now so it's like he has an official obligation to Futaba (not as much as if they were dating). They both like each other, but... well things are complicated! Kou knows Narumi doesn't have anyone and he's been through similar stuff. I just think everything is bad timing, and Fu/Koushould date in the future. As for Touma, I LOVE him, I just love him. BUT I don't think he's right for Futaba. It would be nice to see her notice him as a guy though in the upcoming chapters, but I don't think she will date him out of her hurt feelings from Kou. I would love love to see more interaction though between the two of them to inspire jealousy in Kou, or maybe Touma confronting Kou (okay I'm bad, these are all painful things for Kou!). I am still holding out though for KouxFu because I don't think anything has happened that is unforgivable. It all depends on how future chapters turn out, but I still see the Kou and Futaba as the ending pair, and I think this can be done happily/sensibly so. One more thing, I know some ppl hate Narumi, especially with the kiss/ possible lying about the kiss, but I don't think she's a bad person. She's just another maiden in love, like Futaba. Only she's not Futaba/the main character.

I thought it was really hard waiting after the last chapter, but after this one... it's going to be even harder!!!

I feel that this is going down the path of Moe Kare, for those of you who have read it, where the chick that no-one likes (Narumi) pretty much emotionally blackmails Kou, even though he doesn't really want to, but he feels like he is obligated to because he can't stand watching someone else suffer when he has suffered something similar. Sigh, I really wish Narumi just went home, and wouldn't make another appearence...EVER! This is why i struggle to read Sakisaka-sensei's work, because the relationship aspect is just too frustrating *nightmares of Strobe Edge*

Wouldn't it be nice if it turned out that way? I mean, for a change. I actually liked Moe Kare because of that. I didn't expect her to choose Arata, though it'd be really stupid of her if she chose Takara after suffering from so much heartache because of him. But I don't think Aoharaido's going to be like that. It will be Kou and Futaba till the end. There will be much deeper explanation in everyone's action (especially to Kou's) and everything will turn out okay in the end. I wouldn't mind if she choose Touma though, but I know a lot would complain and might even hate the mangaka so it seems impossible. :P

I actually agree. It would be a nice change. Because RIGHT NOW (I do mean current chapter), Futaba will always be second to Narumi and that is never a good feeling. You should never be an option to someone else while they are your priority. That relationship would never work out. Knowing the mangaka, she will make everything right again but not for a few more chapters.

I just want to say I do love Kou and Futaba pairing but they have a lot to work on. Communication is a big key to any relationship and they haven't quite mastered this yet. Kou is very indecisive about his feelings for Futaba which makes her more insecure. I commend him for caring so much about Narumi but it should never be at the expense of someone he loves. He is making both women have expectations but I guess at the end there when he hugged her, Futaba may realize that Narumi is more important, more special than she is with Kou. She may even think that the bond they share in middle school will never be able to compare to Kou's bond with Narumi. It will hurt her and enter Touma to soften that blow. I dont think Futaba will go out with Touma though, she is not that type of person though in another universe, it will be nice to see that happen :)

This chapter made me want to throw something at my pc screen >.< I'm tired of Kou acting like the noble idiot and hurting Futaba's feelings. And acting like this he's hurting Narumi as well, because she obviously knows what he really feels (not that I really pity her tbh). I don't know if I want Futaba to go out with Touma right away, but he's so nice, I hope Futaba gives him a chance.

what about futaba? talking rubbish all the time? if she'd just said "kou i love you" after that georgous kiss, this surely would not have happened! but no, bo bitch around about stuff that's not her problem. kous past is HIS past and you can't do nothing about it. what is this ? they're not even together, she has NO RIGHT to ask him about that stuff. and it doesn't matter really like kominato said! futaba is the rude one! always waiting till kou does something. well he kissed her SEVERAL times and she must be blind not to see his feelings written all over his face. and what does she do? she talks about narumi? well after reading what did u write I kinda give kou some excuses now and view the total mess in wider angle , u are somehow right but don't agree completely that Futaba is the rude and stupid . look form her angle dude , Touma told her before that there are guys how kiss without feeling + she asked kou if he kissed Narumi and he did admit it and he also said that she is not his GF nor he likes her so what will she think over all that a lot of thought are run inside her head .

all what happened is misunderstanding in this chapter and things need to be clarify next chapter

I can't agree with you even if you have some good point about Futaba but come on Futaba was totally right to ask this kind of thing. I mean she never had a boyfriend before, so she didn't have any experience about love and stuff like that. So she was troubled because she couldn't understand if Kou really like her if he can kiss other girls (well Thank you Touma to told her that...). Morever Futaba is know to be very honest and straightforward ! So the question is why Kou didn't told her that it was not the "same" thing !?
I really like Kou but his behavior at the end is really rude and I think that why so many people are angry against him. He knew that Futaba was here and that she was upset about this thing with Narumi and even so he hugged her !!!! Well if in the next chapter he'll go to explain her then yes I'll forgive hime but yet I'm still really angry at him ! Narumi may be his friend there are way to not hurt the person you love too... Plus Kou wasn't the first to make a move, Futaba tried her best to be close to him and was here for him when he felt down etc... So it was only the first time we can see how Kou really feel for Futaba.
Now I hope that Kou will explain otherwise I'll really start to cheer for Touma and Futaba !

I was really mad when I wrote that because in every comment you'd read like "kou you bastard" and stuff like that. I was really upset about that. I didn't like people only blaming him that's just not fair.
but yeah both of you are right too of course!! I mean I really like futaba, she is one of the coolest female characters in this kind of manga (most of them tend to be stupid and weak. futaba is strong!). and yeah it's true that futaba was always there for kou and acted first. I really think that kou has good reasons for his actions he wanted to wait before telling futaba about his feelings because of the unsettled narumi cause. the kiss was really sudden, for everyone I guess. But futaba could have asked straight forward, like "is this kiss for real? do you like me?" I mean instead of focusing on their situation, she asks about narumi. that was bad to bring her up in a situation like that. you say she's straight forward, yeah she is, but the way she wanted to ask kou her questions was just not right -.- I doubt that kou would have acted the same way, if she didn't bring narumi up -.- that's what I'm mad about.
and touma? well I liked him at first, but now he is like Narumi in my eyes. just because he is a GUY and most of the readers are girls and think he's cute, they don't see how HE tries to snatch futaba away. okay it's his right to try, but telling futaba things about kou and kisses, that was not a pure intention -.- like what narumi said. so if people go on and blame narumi and say that she's the bitch, then I'll say that touma is the bastard. haha I mean... it's the same. They both butt in, don't they? If they'd stay honest and wouldn't try to tell futaba and kou both bad things about one another, I wouldn't dislike them.

I kinda get what you mean and you have a point there..

But if you look at it in several angles, Kou seriously screwed things up big time following his string of shortcomings already. He broke his promise to her to go the festival without explaining why then was back as if nothing happened just like 3 years ago. He left her in the burger shop planning to be with narumi(then changed his mind only to back off when he saw kikuchi-kun with futaba). He treats her like he loves her, then the next thing we see is him treating her lukewarm. What would that make someone feel? Adding to that, he invited Narumi to festival and showed her around (I don’t think there is something wrong with that but that will make futaba really insecure). Then, he did not deny the kiss CLEARLY and he did not do anything to ESTABLISH where futaba is in his life. Yeah, he kissed her then what? That was just a kiss, some women don’t get it when guys don’t say it out loud and unfortunately futaba is one of those women.

Futaba has been very consistent in her action, I’ll give her that. She came running after him, befriended him, drag him out of his i-don't-give-a-damn attitude, etc. She was wearing her heart in her sleeve. Her weaknesses are she doesn't say what she feels and over analyse things. Even a blind can see that she was in love with him (maybe this is an exaggeration). Then Kou made her run in circles, dumps her then picks her up then dumps her again. Of course she would be insecure. She would always doubt where she stands no matter how clear it may be for others to see. She had been led on several times that had her hopes crashing to the ground in the end. During the last few pages, he was like slapping across her face that 'i may love you but right now she matters to me more than you...' I just wished futaba told him how she feel after the kiss but then something tells me that he would still go to Narumi even if she told him that.

Yes, he has a friend who needs him, a friend who is going through the same thing he did. He wants to be with her and support her, we all have that moment. We all want to be there when a friend needs us but that is not an excuse to keep someone guessing/doubting. Look at how he placed Narumi above everything else, like literally. She cries or feels insecure and he would come running to her. She manipulates people but he would go defending/covering up for her. He can clearly see that she was leeching off him but then what 'it's okay, i know, i understand coz i am the only one you can lean on'. Kou is a very nice person to have as a friend but then he is immersing himself in Narumi's situation to the point that he is blind about some of the most important things is his life. And that's not healthy, that's Cassandra complex, just because someone he knew is in the same situation as he was once in he should be be so into it,too. Or he has the Martyr Complex where he needs to sacrifice himself and save other to justify what he has now.

Gosh..i'm ranting i know..
That felt good..it takes the weight off my chest..

I think the Kou's attitude and his actions were foolish, I think when he was in that situation (Narumi's situation), what he doesn't like (I think so) was the pity, but now, he for "pity" he is with Narumi knowing which eventually will end up hurting her even mor, he also realized what Narumi said to Futaba and he doesn't want to see the "fact" in it, yes, also was Futaba's fault for not to be clear and don't let Kou explain how he feels 'bout her and Narumi, But Futaba has done more thing for him than Kou, he changed only 'cuz Futaba open his eyes and show him there are people who cares about him, and its not bad smile, and make friends even he feel guilty 'bout his mother's dead. So I think Kou is an idiot for acting for pity, with that he's not going to helps Narumi, before what he's going to do is "sink".

It seemed to me that the kiss was really a lie. Kou was kind of offended with what Futaba said so he just went with the flow and covered up Narumi's lie. Also, looking through his conversation with Kominato as well as the last page of the chapter, when Narumi said 'everything was on purpose', and he replied 'he knows'. Even so, I'm still SO mad at him!! He could've at least explain things to Futaba. But he didn't, so it looked like he really care less for Futaba. He even hurt her by intentionally hugging the bitch while she was looking at them. No matter what the reason was, it's still unforgivable. Futaba, please get a hold of yourself and think things through. He didn't care about you, then so should you!! Stop chasing after him already and let him chase you this time no matter what!!!

I don't hate Kou for rejecting Futaba, but I hate how he'd put his point across about his choice. Both Kou and Futaba are hampered by communication problems, the way they talk to/behave around each other is just a train wreck waiting to happen :( Kou is free to choose whom he wants to be supportive towards, but his mercurial impulses can be so insensitive and hurtful. I think Futaba needs to take a break from her chase and learn to love herself. Not that she needs to start liking Touma, maybe it's more like she needs to find herself and understand her own worth as a person instead of fighting for someone who doesn't care as much as she does about the friendship/relationship.

What an unhappy chapter...but thanks a lot for your hard work in providing this translation!

I can understand why Kou wants to help Narumi. But I think he's an idiot because he acts too much on impulse without thinking:
1- he kissed Futaba again without thinking it through because he hated the fact that she would discard the accidental kiss
2- He went to Narumi and took her in his arms in front of Futaba. It's his way for him to make himself deal with her before allowing himself to act on his love for Futaba.

My point is next chapter or so, Kou will realise what he really has done and its consequences. In his head, it's just help his friend before his love life. So, he'll understand thanks to Kominato I'm sure and possibly Murao that:
1- Fu likes him(they'll tell him I hope) and so he hurt deeply the one person that helped him the most to overcome his troubling feelings. Basically to help a friend in need, he's hurting a close friend without any qualms.

2- he didn't get that friendship works 2 ways. Fu helped him tons and he let her down or hurt her feelings by saying nasty things (like a primary school kid) many times. Which brings me to 3

3- his previous complicity with Futaba is now totally gone. She will never act the same around him. I'm not sure she'll avoid him because knowing her, she'll understand that Narumi needs him. (though I don't agree!) But she won't go to him anymore like she used to and want to get close to him because she won't think she's important to him.
Even if he doesn't realise 1 then this one will be clear and he'll wonder why she's acting differently with him and why she took his helping Narumi so much at heart.
4- he clearly gives the message to his friends that if you're not really hurt or had the same hurtful experience as him, well you're not as important as Narumi.
5- that hug to me looks like he said to Futaba that he likes Narumi. (when he said he didn't at the beginning) though I don't think he meant it like that... Well, I hope

One thing is sure, if Kou doesn't explain himself to Fu or if he starts going out with Narumi out of pity, I'll be disappointed in Sakisaka because it's a storyline that's been over and over. And I might drop the manga for a while, I'll read the next chapter to give her the bennefit of the doubt....

I think the point in this fiasco of a chapter is what you mention, Kou didin't explain anything to Futaba, there was no comunication and his actions were very impulsive and confusing, That guy is not helping at all to at leat make her understand and just blow kick without further notice!

I've seen this "twist" in a lot of shoujo manga already and I hated it every time. The hero's painted as the "good" guy who can't leave a girl who's in pain/reminds him of himself alone so he goes out with her and pushes his real love interest away. Actually, there was something similar to this in Strobe Edge too. Fuck that. He's lying to himself, the girl, and his love interest. It's not fair to anyone involved. Just send the girl to a therapist and continue your lovey dovey life with your love interest. Letting her cling on to him isn't helping her. Maybe he thinks she won't need him some day and he can leave then, but staying with her will only make her depend on him more and fall for him harder and she'll be hurt more than she has to when she realizes it was all a lie. And she will. Cause this is shoujo and shoujo is predictable.
I wish the author would just let the hero screw himself and have the heroine be with the other male love interest instead, but I doubt it'll happen.
About the kiss, Futaba had every right to ask. She was jealous about the kiss and wanted to know if (since Kou wasn't going out with Narumi but still kissed her) she was the same as Narumi to him--basically, not girlfriend material in his eyes. It was a natural reaction.
And Kou wasn't being considerate. At all. He made a split decision on his own to go running to Narumi as soon as he kisses Futaba because he realized, "oh, Narumi reminds me of me. Forget about Futaba and the pain I'll cause her or whatever explanation I owe her, my narcissistic nature is beckoning me. I'll just gallop off on my white horse to Narumi's aid." <-- don't put too much weight on those words. I let my rage flow for a bit there.
I don't blame Narumi. She was in pain and wanted someone to lean on. It was KOU'S fucking responsibility to tell her, "whoa there, I understand your pain and I'm sorry for you, but I got someone I love right now. I'll be there for you and support you through therapy, but I can't do anything more." GODDAMNIT, KOU!
Basically, I'm pissed.

I understand Kou feels bad for Narumi, but still, you can't just steal someone's kiss and fucking go off with someone else. Kou should be slapped. At least a million times. I feel bad for Futuba. I really want Kou and Futuba to end up together... but at this point, I don't know. At least if she ends up with Touma, it'll be a decent guy. He loves her a lot, he would take care of her. Not Kou, who'd go off with Narumi just out of pity and keep her company. He even hugged her in front of Futuba. I realy hope that doesn't mean he'll be with Narumi. If the manga ends up with him going with Narumi, and running back to Futuba later on, screw it. She should just be with Touma then, if Kou is so unsure about his feelings for Futuba, he shouldn't be with her at all. I hate Narumi so much. I know my hatred of her is misled, but still, I don't like her type of charater. The type of girl that would allow another person to sacrifice themselves just to make her happy. BITTTTCCCHHHHH. This chapter is so upsetting. T^T
If he solves things with Narumi and runs back to Futuba that's okay.. but I seriously doubt that will happen. There's like a 40 percent chance, and the other 60 is he'll let her cling to him. It's so common in shoujo mangas, and I always hate this part. The part where the guy plays the good guy and ditches the love interest.
& here's the part that annoyed me the most. Narumi wasn't even lying. They actually DID kiss. Which makes me hate Kou even more! Why do you pity her enough to kiss her?! For all of you that are blaming Futuba, no. Just no. She didn't do anything wrong, she was right to ask him. How can you blame her believing Kou was the type of guy to kiss girls he didn't like? Which is sadly true. This chapter is freaking me out. I REALLLYYYY HOPE THAT 40 PERCENT IS COMING IN. It might be lower.. a 30 percent. q__q
If it's that 60 percent, I'm crossing my fingers for Touma. But before that, i'll be stabbing that screen. kthxbai

I'm a girl and I could really feel the cruelty of what Kou did. =< Seriously? Kiss the girl and then look her in the eye and hug the girl she's dead jealous of? :< :< :< What Kou did was noble to be like a savior to a friend in need, but he should still know his place, especially after giving Futaba her first kiss. It was wrong for him to suddenly walk away. Ahhhh so many unforeseen events I don't even know what to expect next chapter ahhahaha Sakisaka Io-san is just too great :"D

Although it was heartbreaking to read and we must wait soooo long for the new chapter so we can get an idea to where all of this is going to. I must say before the chapter came out I was running my mind wild with possible scenarios of what may happen not in a million years would I have expected something like this happening I guess Sakisaka really knows how to throw us all off I kinda knew that after the emotional heart throbing fangirls squeaky screams 3 kisses chapter she would shock us in the most unexpected way... because lets face it wheres the fun in everything always going smoothly. Of course we all know there will be a happy ending for futaba and kou we just have to suffer along with them while we get there, that said i must say that this chapter really ruined my mood i was agonizing for the new chapter and for this to happen! I feel so sorry for futaba, kou really did mess it up BIG time and i hope he suffers a little bit before futaba can forgive him and that´s where touma comes in. As we all know he will be the one comforting futaba and while he does that i hope kou will go crazy in jelousy let him feel what futaba feels when he choose that squeaky little crybaby annoying liar of a girl over our heroine. I mean ok i know its gotta be hard lossing your family but to act as a pitiful person thats just annoying the world doesnt revolve around you and what she´s doing its selfish she only wants to be happy doesnt care if the ones around her are unhappy then that´s not love. And as for the kiss it was really heartbreaking to know that kou did kiss her and im hoping with all of my heart that he just said he did kiss her just to cover for her which wouldnt make no sense i dont know why he would need to cover such a useless lie unless he didnt want to hurt narumi´s image in front of futaba which makes it all more depressing and sick

I guess we´ll just have to wait for the new chapter comes out to know how the events are going to unviel i kinda sense there will be another confesion soon and it would be by our blushing character touma i really hope it will be soon so it can get futaba out of thinking of kou and so kou can suffer a little he was too mean to her so before he reedems himself he needs to man up

But i´m sure Sakisaka will know how to throw us all off once again she know what we want and what would make our hearts cry lets hope next time she´ll try to cheer us all up with some adorable moments

Oh, woah.. Only two days and such a big conversation.. & i am writting for the first time here, so a little bit nervous.
Anyway, thank you very much. Seriously, it really plesantly surprised me, totally didn't expect new chapter, so glad)
And, about this situation. Argh. It just too, too stupid. What the hell, when we belived - "FINALLY, THEY DID IT", and this is what we get in next chapter. Argh. Well, what i can say for sure, is that guys, don't blame kou. It is actually amusing to find out how much of you, guys, detest him. And he is considered to be the main hero. Aaah, poor boy. But, you now, kou is not mature man, he is also like futaba - just a teen, insecure and inexperienced. So don't expect him to behave like a totally.. an ideal man. He can make mistakes and also it's not like he can everytime control his emotions. Imagine that you just kissed a girl/boy who u like and get as an answer: 'aaa, so u are that kind of person'. Don't know how others, but I would be offended and angry. So yeah, this is my point.
& damn it!!! Why couldn't they be good and became lovely dovey!!!

Well for sure it implied that Kou chose Narumi over Futaba. I don't care if that was a misunderstanding or if there's a deeper meaning in that. All I know is Futaba is a great character. Even if her heart screams that she wants to be with Kou, she never imposed herself on him. She held back when it was not appropriate. She was a very selfless friend.

She didn't deserve that last bit. I don't care if Kou likes her or not..but even as a friend and as a person, you just don't do that. That was a slap in her face. It's not as if she's stronger than Narumi, they're only humans. Futaba can also only take so much.

Touma earned super points. At least someone is fighting for her.

Was that awful or what -_-

Well anyway, whatever happens from now I hope Kou regrets this wrong move. Of course Touma will make him regret that and I'm ready for this war. I really hate jerk male leads. Kou should not go that path or else. I liked Andou in Strobe Edge he was an admirable character. Touma would most probably get that same growing fondness from me. And from Futaba hahahaha lol kidding. must we really wait for another month *sigh*

I expected more from Sakisaka Io, to be honest. This is turning into... ah idk, some other manga that's really familiar.

Now what I really expect in the next chapters is for Kou to MAN THE HELL UP and clean this mess he has done. I don't want him to get away with how he hurt Futaba! Good thing the girl's naturally strong and can stand up for herself despite the adversities she's experiencing UNLIKE A CERTAIN SOMEONE *coughs* NEWCOMER GIRL *coughs* I know might be slightly jumping into conclusions here and being really biased but come on, from what that friend of hers said on the phone, it seems that she has relatives to go to and cry for help and understanding etc.. what's the point in sticking only with Kou? Ulterior motives much.

This is honestly starting to go along the same path of Bokura ga ita and Tonari no Atashi. But then again looking at the bright side if everything went A-Okay after the kiss then the manga would come to an abrupt end and to be honest there's still alot we don't know about the characters, and their personalities still need major development, for instance i think (well im hoping) that futaba as a character matures a bit, after this shock (or slap across the face if you like) and kou realizes that it is just down right cruel to sacrifice one person's happiness for another, in a way he's also sacrificing his own (if he's going to stay by narumi's side out of pity and not love). This brings me to my next point, I really don't think narumi and kou will date (if they do i'll be done with this manga) but logically speaking Kou may be an idiot but he's not THAT stupid, but i will say he is giving narumi false hope (which is also unfair to narumi>not that i care about her, but still). I don't hate kou, because inevitably it will be a kouXfu ending but nonetheless without obstacles. And lets not forget why we liked this manga in the first place, Sakisaka sensei takes typical plots and sucks out all the cliches of a shoujo manga, so im definitely interested to see how she will resolve this mess, i feel like this downfall will make kou and futaba stronger as a couple, when they eventually do get together. Although i would have preferred them being a couple and going through all of this as a couple. And as i said earlier this is also good chance for characters like touma, kominato,yuri and murao to develop. We should also not forget the unpredictability of this manga, like none of us really anticipated everything to come crashing down within one chapter (that's why we're all so mad, we didn't see it coming) for all we know narumi could pull a "oh kou-chan don't sacrifice your chances with that girl for my happiness" and push kou to go to futaba's side (who knows..anythings possible at this moment)..what im trying to say is don't be disheartened by this chapter, all of this crap just clarifies that we're going to have an amazing ending (hopefully).
:) (i'll give my benefit of the doubt and say that Sakisaka sensei will not let us down)

I have this deep, dark desire to see Kou take in the same kind of pain he had caused on Futaba during this chapter. Call it revenge or whatever but this chapter made me so annoyed! Srsly though, I can understand why Futaba hadn't expressed feelings towards Kou. One, Narumi said that she and Kou kissed and two, Kou made it look like Narumi was a special girl for him.

If I were Futaba, I think I'd want to know what he was feeling at that moment because if he kissed me and I knew that he liked someone else, WELL - that kind of guy ain't worth any of my time.

On the other hand, Kou is being stupid trying to comfort Narumi in that manner. He said so himself in the previous chapter "She'd make friends easily" (... or something like that, if I remembered it correctly) so geez, leave it to her other friends to deal with. I mean, someone actually phoned for Kou to "go and save Narumi"

Srsly, if Kou wanted it that way, he might as well work in a host club or something. GEEZ.

Sorry everyone, I really needed to put that out. I feel so much better writing something here as I am going crazy waiting for the next chapter.

I am writing a fan fiction based on this chapter and I have the same idea as you have...I want him to feel the doubt and pain futaba experienced because of him..how she moves on with her life while he's left behind with regrets and stuff..

woaah amazingg chapter !! i think Kou needs to differentiate between self-pity and love, whether he truly likes futaba or not. He only feels sorry for her because he went through something similar and its okay to be there for narumi but BE CLEAR ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS AND STOP HURTING FUTABA just tell her straight up don't leave her in the gutter! I hope futaba finds a better guy and falls in love. and KOU GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER DUDE!!!
