Chapter 5 starts right after Mariho rejected Shitara and he walked away. Rin tells Shitara that work for today is over but then notices that he is acting weird so asks Shitara what happened. He also notices Mariho who is still wrestling with that board so he asks him if it`s fine not to help her, but Shitara yells it`s fine and glares at Mariho who is embarrassed. Rin teases him if it is possible for Shitara to have a broken heart and Shitara angry tells him to shut up.
Mariho is still running with board and thinking to herself why she gave him such answer. Since that is not the case. As she looks herself at the mirror she thinks how she suddenly became embarrassed and remembered Aira`s words that she doesn`t earn to be loved by Shitara.
She is heading home, still mesmerized by what happened, thinking she wanted to know how is she reflecting in Shitara`s eyes but ended up rejecting him. Then she starts in the middle of the street apologizing saying that that is so her doing. She wonders what can she do and what does she want to do. Then she comes across a beauty shop but when a clerk asks her what is she looking for she panics saying nothing and retreats quickly. In the classroom Masa comments that Mariho won`t make it in time for end of recess and is angry at Shitara saying it`s his fault cause Mariho felt bad after she rejected him. Rin interrupts her selfish behavior and Shitara tells her he is also feeling bad. Masa is upset and tells them she`ll go to look for Mariho. Mariho is sitting alone, thinking that this way lunch break seems so long, when Masa finally finds her. She tells her that she understands Mariho is spending time here alone not to disturb Shitara, but it`s fine so she should come with them back to classroom. Mariho answers her she will stay there after all. Masa still insists that the best way is to behave normally, but Mariho, all embarrassed, tells her she`s wrong and that SHE is embarrassed to face Shitara. Masa is surprised by that and Rin comments leisurely she was just fine until recently and asks her if she is embarrassed facing him (Rin). Or any other boys. Mariho replies NO to both questions. Then Rin points out to her that doesn`t that mean that she actually like Shitara. Mariho blushes and Masa concludes it must be it. In the middle of an awkward situation, Mariho`s stomach starts to growl. then they notice that her lunch consisted of juice only, so Rin asks her if she`s on diet. Mariho panics she `s totally seen through and Rin says he gets the picture and she want to reflect well in Shitara`s eyes. Mariho tries to deny it but Rin backfires question why is she lying to herself about her own feelings and says that for a girl wanting to be pretty is the most natural thing. He gives her a whole monologue that she should stop hiding her face behind that hair cause she`s looking like a hornbeam and her hair looks too big for her small body and also with that grey sweater she`s wearing she looks like a mouse. Then he approaches her like a magician asking her: „ Miss Mouse, would you like me to put a magic on you? “
Next all three are at the clothes shop that Rin`s mom owns. After Mariho introduces herself Kanoko also comments she looks like a little mouse. After Rin gets approval to do as they please he tells Mariho it is time for fashion show and they start choosing dresses for her to try on. Mariho finally gets same courage but first dress she finds to like Rin disapproves. He then says to Masa to do Mariho`s hair until he finds a dress for her. Masa decides to make breads for Mariho and to lift her bangs up. Mariho remembers how when she was little, her mum used to do her hair like that. Now they are all waiting for Mariho to step out of changing room to see her and indeed she did have a real make over. Masa and Rin both agree she looks cute. Then as she barely walks in high heels to mirror she is shocked to see herself, at first asking them who that girl is. Looking at herself she thinks that she would probably never wear this heels, one piece or do her bangs like this herself and she never saw herself like this before. Rin asks her what is she thinking after she looked herself and she sincerely smiles and thanks him, saying she has courage now and thanks to Masa and Kanoko as well. When they walk home, Rin says to Mariho that somehow magic seems to be dissolved. He continues that they have clothes for rent as well, for example Masa also wears that. Then Mariho says that she will try something by herself next time. She explains that since she is nervous while talking to Shitara she wants to improve her and then properly face him. Rin asks her if she thought she wanted Shitara to see her in that dress earlier and Mariho blushes saying she did a little bit. Then suddenly Mariho notices Masa looking exhausted of hunger.
Before going home, Mariho drops by the same beauty shop she visited earlier. She explains to lady that is working there she wants a face lotion that matches her face, latex and a sun block. She thinks to herself how girls are working hard in order to be modern.
Next day at school, guys are commenting a panel of A class (Mariho ˛&co.) when they suddenly notice Mariho, looking totally different and cute, and wonder if that girl goes to their school. But when they read the name tag they are shocked that she is Kiyota and say she is looking great. Rin is also stunned by the new look and tells her he likes the hair cause it`s feeling light. Then he asks her if she`s wearing makeup, but she says it is just a face lotion she used. Behind the corner, Shitara is listening the warm conversation of Mariho and Rin...
