Kujaku no kyoshitsu 10

Shitara is shocked to see Rin holding Mariho’s hand, but Rin quickly thanks her for giving him handkerchief and tells them that he has a headache so he will leave alone for now. Mariho asks him if he will be alright by himself, but he says he can always take a taxi. Shitara is disturbed and can’t believe this is happening. He starts franticly running to Rin even though Mariho and Masa tells them they’ll lose each other again.

After he catches up to him he takes his mask off (assuming  he probably will be crying or something) but Rin, composed as always, teases Shitara with his tongue. Rin asks him why he chased after him a change a facial expression like that. He tries to change topic again saying his pain still didn’t fade away. He jokes with him saying he’s been teasing Mariho trying to seduce her, but he thinks he made her trouble because of that so he apologizes to Shitara for butting in. Shitara tells him he’s not a guy who would do that so he should just be honest with him. He asks Rin since when he was in love with Mariho. Rin is surprised by that and comments Shitara is so straight.

He continues he never said he likes Mariho and to be honest he is interested in her, since she is honest, strong and has what both of them lack, and looks like she grew up basking under the sun so he also feels warm while speaking to her. He tells him not to worry because he would never interfere with their mutual love, and he also doesn’t plan to confess her, so they should just wait to lose this feeling for her.

In the end he apologizes to taking her hand. Shitara is returning to Mariho and Masa, but looks like a world ended for him, since he feels probably like he just has lost a very precious person to him. While girls are enjoying fireworks, Shitara is remembering conversation with Rin, just a recent one when he asked Shitara where did he go on midnight and how he defended him in front of granny. Mariho bumps into him watching the fireworks and smiles to him saying it`s beautiful, but he remembers Rin saying to wait until feeling fade away and coldly agrees, what Mariho instantly notices.

The next morning, they were planning to go with Tomichan to river, but since it’s raining they should change their plans. Masa says they should be taking pictures and asks Mariho if she has any pictures with Shitara, just two of them, but she blushes and says she does’`t.

Masa tells Mariho to sit next to Shitara closer cause she isn`t fitting in the picture, so their shoulder touches, but just when she wants to take a picture, Masa says she will show to Rin this as well, so Shitara grabs her hand saying to stop cause he hates pictures and goes to watch TV, but Mariho notices something is off and becomes sad. Mariho asks him what’s wrong because he’s been acting strange since yesterday, but Shitara again indifferently tells that nothing’s wrong. She thinks how she doesn’t understand guys because he was so nice until 2 days ago.

Granny asks Shitara what is he doing and is surprised he is watching TV. Masa checks Rin out, wanting to show him pictures from last night.  She tells him that Shitara’s been acting weird, he suddenly even told them he hates taking pictures when she wanted to take one with him and Mariho. Rin is surprised, since he thought Shitara would laugh and take picture with her and now he regrets telling all that stuff to Shitara.  He asks Masa if she took only that one picture so she freaks out that there should be also photos from fireworks festival and them wearing yukata. Then, out of the blue, Rin says how he remembered the time when Shitara changed his facial expression.  It was around the time they both entered an elementary school. There was a school event and Rin was obviously the only one that misheard the meeting place and was waiting there alone. Since he waited for a long time he thought to himself he was lucky for he could return home without having to participate in that. But then, little shitara with sour look as always, happened to run towards him and yelled at him not to run away. Little Rin was thinking through how he will talk with him for now, even though he didn’t really want to discuss how he was being left out by others, and then declared to Shitara he won’t run away. Shitara continued how he also doesn’t have friends but still, he won’t skip school. Then they laughed at each other. He tells Masa that Shitara is very frank and straight forward but bad at conveying that to others.

In the kitchen, Shitara asks Mariho if she’s already started doing lunch, but Mariho says it’s not but she is cooking udon for Rin in case he skipped breakfast. Shitara is obviously bothered and tells her that it would be better not being so nice to somebody else. Mariho is shocked saying it’s not somebody, it’s Rin, but Shitara tells her if he is hungry he can make something himself.  She tells him she needs to take that to Rin, but he won’t let her pass, saying that it can also be cruel treating everybody nicely. She asks him what is he angry about and Shitara says nothing but that’s just how he feels. Then Tadaomi enters noticing they had a fight. Mariho is sad thinking how she didn’t really treat Rin special and wonders if it is her fault. She thinks how it’s gradually become harder to understand Shitara,

Then granny suddenly collapses. It seems it’s due to heavy things she was holding so the two take her to the doctor. It seems that once again Shitara is bothered that Mariho asked Tadaomi for help and not him. The doctor tells Mariho that granny strained her back and since she is old her recovery will probably be prolonged.  Mariho decides she will stay there until she gets better. Mariho conveys the news to others and Masa asks her if she should stay with her to help but Mariho declines saying she can handle it.

Well since it means they won’t see each other, Shitara is gloomy again. She says Tadaomi will help her what makes Shitara explode of anger and tells her he will go home tomorrow as planned.

They are parting at train station and Mariho thinks to herself that since the incident she practically didn’t speak to Shitara. Rin tells Shitara that it’s time to stop behaving in such manners toward Mariho and it’s better to part in love way since they won’t see each other for a while. Mariho bids Masa and Rin a goodbye and stays alone with Shitara.  They look at each other and Shitara asks her: “shall we return being friends?”

Mariho is shocked thinking she didn’t heard it wrong and she can’t make herself to ask why because she is scared that he’ll tell her he doesn’t like her anymore, but she tells him: “If that is what Shitara wants” He says “yes” and gets on the train, leaving a sad Mariho behind...

Kujaku no kyoshitsu 9

It`s morning and Shitara is waking Rin up, who complains about bugs that bothers him and he has a headache. Shitara asks him if he is alright and Rin says it`s just a migraine he usually has. Then he asks Shitara where did he go yesterday during the night and Shitara blushes a little trying to avoid answering.  Mariho narrates that she is like mesmerized ever since  kissing Akito and her head has gone crazy and she feels like she is floating in the air. Thinking about that she can`t even cook properly what worries Maasa so she asks Mariho what happened. She tells her about the kiss and says that she was going to behave normally in front of them and apologizes ahead if things become strange. Maasa tells her it`s fine and that she`ll look after her.  Masa apologizes to her for being so inexperienced in kissing and not being able to advice her about that, but Mariho tells her that it`s not necessary for her to have all information about kissing. Masa tells her “kiss from the person you like is special” is written in Betsuma, and granny arrives asking whose kiss is special.  Mariho panics saying that they were only talking about the manga since she was afraid what would happen to Akito if granny found out they`ve been sneaking out at night. Granny offers Akito and Rin breakfast and Akito of course has to eat it but Rin declines saying he doesn`t eat in the morning.  Masa says that the rice is delicious, but Rin usually doesn`t eat much. Then they notice that Tadaomi is missing so granny informs them that he got up early and left for work. Saying how he is hard working bothers Shitara so when she asks him if he will help her in the field he determined agrees to. Mariho tries to intervene saying she will help her but Akito stops her saying she doesn`t need to do anything. Mariho and Masa are nervously watching at them discussing that maybe granny wants to train him because he is her boyfriend. Then granny puts a hat on Akito saying it’s hot so he needs it.  Tadaomi comes teasing Akito and brings 10kg of rice. He then tells her that she shouldn`t ask Shitara for help since he would do it much faster, but Shitara says that he will do it faster, cause he is younger...and so an argue begins who is better, bigger etc. in the end, Tadaomi asks Masa for her opinion and she answers that they are the same. Tadaomi then compliments her tea, but Mariho says that she made it. Then granny punches Tadaomi because he was saying until now that he likes Mariho and suddenly he changes his heart. Akito asks Rin if his headache got better and soaking Rin says it did. Then granny brings out a yukata for Mariho. Girls are very excited. Mariho is very happy and as she smiles Akito is looking at her and blushing. Granny says she will borrow a yukata for Masa as well. Mariho is very happy for festival is finally beginning and she can meet again Tomi chan and other friends. Girls wear Yukata and Shitara is embarrassed how cute Mariho looks in it, but when Masa asks him doesn’t Mariho look cute, he replies it is good, so she asks Rin, but he says the same thing.  Mariho`s friends are shocked to see such a handsome boyfriend. Tomi chan tries to converse with dull Rin, about the movies since she heard he likes movies asking him which one he recommends, but he just says that she should watch what she likes.

As they walk through the festival they notice that it is getting crowded so they should pay attention not to get lost. Then Tomi tells Mariho that she might get over board being familiar with Rin because suddenly he got very cold to her but Mariho assures her that it is just the ordinary Rin. They ask her about her relationship and if they have kissed already so she tries to get back to Shitara and almost trip but Shitara is here to help her. Mariho is surprised seeing he has sunburns on his arms ( probably from working in fields) and starts to apologize to him cause she intended this to be a fun trip, but Shitara tells her that it`s fine and he thinks that her granny really wanted to see her and although she said she will pick a partner for her, it was only because she was worried and it`s not like she was over strict with him.

Rin and Masa are also enjoying themselves in festival and Rin tries to scare Masa putting on the fox mask what makes her angry saying how he always makes up something bad. Suddenly it becomes crowded cause portable shrines enter the festival so Shitara tries to grip Mariho`s hand but she trips again and loses sight of Akito. She notices she forgot her cell phone and as she tries to find Shitara she notices Rin who went to rest aside because his headache appeared again. Mariho wants to help him by finding a quite place, and meantime Shitara and Masa met each other. Mariho asks Rin if he needs a drink or something and Rin says he doesn`t, but she is worried so she brought soaked handkerchief to put on his head.

Then he apologizes to her for being mean to Tomi chan, making a bad atmosphere and also for not being normal at her granny`s place. Mariho tells him it`s fine and if he`s felling unwell he doesn’t need to mind all that. She continues that although there are times when he teases others he actually takes care of people as well. Even with Shitara when he does something insufficient he takes care of it, like he did in that cafeteria when she transferred schools. Rin smiles and says that in her eyes both he and Shitara can become good guys cause she always looks for something good in people. She then asks him if he also forgot his cell phone and tells him to stay here and she will look for others. But Rin takes her hand (having a fox mask on his face again) and wouldn`t let go of her.  She tells him he can`t scare her like Masa with fox face but keeping silent he just holds her hand. She asks him what`s wrong but in that moment Shitara and Masa finally found them and Akito is shocked to see calm Rin holding Mariho`s hand.

It is summer, and Rin can’t handle it very well. He is complaining to Masa about the weather saying that there is no one that would be trouble after summer, but Masa disagrees saying that people that lives at the seaside would. He says he wants to go to Russia and see a Siberian wolf. Shitara comes offering him a drink on which writes “broiled eel” but Rin declines it. Mariho asks Rin if he’s fine and Masa explains that every year during summer Rin becomes like this because of heat, since he is hypothermic and hypotensive. Mariho is surprised how Rin can’t handle summer weather and asks Masa if she is the same. Masa says she loves the summer but just needs to be careful not to get sunburns. She asks Shitara as well who says he loves summer and asks her back why she is asking them that. Mariho says she has a grandma back in Niigata and invites them all there during summer vacation, in order to introduce them to her granny. The trio agrees to go on same time. She is very happy and says they can play along the river and have fun at summer festival there. Masa is very happy she can meet Mariho`s granny and Rin is of course teasing Shitara what evil thing is he thinking about but Shitara exclaims he is not.

Mariho is doing house chores, and reminds her dad he`ll be late to the office. He seems somehow lost and confused asking about his shirt but Mariho seems to be managing everything at home, including her dad’s stuff. She informs him about her plans going to Niigata for a week and he doesn`t mind but wonders if there will problems occur.

“End of semester tests went fine, we received our report cards and summer vacation now begins.”

Mariho is narrating that she has been going a lot on dates with Shitara but still has to build up courage to call him by his name.

While driving in train she is practicing to call him Akito, when he asks her suddenly if she`s saying something. She panics she didn`t say anything so he skips that and asks if her granny likes sweet stuff cause he bought sweet potatoes as a present. She tells him that it`s her favorite and she`ll love it. He continues he`s not very popular with elderly people so he worries her granny will hate him. he says it was ever since he was a kid, especially with older woman and he was told a lot he`s bad at socializing so he wonders if it will be all right. She thinks to herself how cute it is to be worried about her granny. She tells him with smile it`ll be fine cause he is very cute when he smiles and he`s not bad at socializing. That makes him surprised and Mariho embarrassed when she realizes what she said just now. Masa and Rin looks at them how sweet they are and Rin of course takes this opportunity to tease Shitara saying to them to feel free flirting without noticing them and Shitara yells at him they are not flirting. Mariho thinks her granny will probably be surprised when she tells her she has a boy she likes.

They finally arrived and Rin is distressing again. Masa comments how from here they have to take an older railroad line when suddenly a man comes exclaiming Mariho`s name and hugs her. Shitara quickly pulls her back to himself and Mariho asks him who is he. Man shouts angry did she really forget him and after a few more glimpses she recognizes him as Tadaomi, an acquaintance. He tells them while driving that he was asked by her grandmother to pick her up. Rin comments that it`s an expensive car which he is driving and Tadaomi says his dad bought it after he graduated high school cause he succeeded his family farm. He says that Mariho`s friends are all beauty so Tokyo really is different after all. Mariho tells him that she transferred to Kanagawa prefecture (and they are all from there) and Tadaomi tells her it`s all the same and that`s also part of Tokyo. Rin comments he`s really a broad minded person and Tadaomi laughs he could say so. But Shitara is still displeased with whole situation so he asks Tadaomi what kind of relationship he has with Mariho. Tadaomi says her granny is his neighbor, who is always telling stories about her, how she is proud of her etc. Mariho stops him saying she is embarrassed but he continues saying that listening to all granny`s stories he also started liking Mariho so they wanted Mariho to become his bride. Of course Mariho and Shitara are both shocked by that, wondering if granny really did say that, and finally they arrive.

Mariho calls out to granny who welcomes her and compliments her hair, but Mariho informs her that Tadaomi has been saying same weird stuff to them. Granma says that since Tadaomi is looking for a bride they were wondering how Mariho would be a good one since she doesn`t have a boyfriend. She blushes and then informs her granny that she has a person she likes and she brought him here to meet her. Granny storms out asking which one is Mariho`s boyfriend and Shitara approaches introducing himself. Granny is shocked when she meets him saying it`s bad to lie and she yells at Mariho she is being deceived cause he is too pretty to have a one girl only. He says it`s not a lie and he is not deceiving her. Than Maasa jumps in introducing herself and says Shitara is seriously dating Mariho. Rin introduces himself as well and says that even though Shitara looks that way he is pretty inexperienced. Granny yells at Mariho why are all of her friend so beautiful and concludes this saying she will be the one to pick her partner.

Being alone, Mariho talks to her granny that Shitara really is a good guy, but she says she has to see it herself. She asks Mariho how long are they dating and Mariho replies 3 months. granny asks her since she is inexperienced, can she really figure him out in 3 months and can she really be sure he will only love her and he won`t be messing around. That disturbs her and left her thinking, she can`t ask him such questions. Maasa and Rin are looking around the house, commenting how wide and pretty it is. Then he teases Shitara how he failed to give good first impressing and all because he was born with such a beautiful face. Shitara tells him he doesn`t want to hear about his face from him. Tadaomi shows up saying he really does have a face like a girl. Then he laughs he`s lucky he has one rival less, now. Shitara is pissed especially when he notices Tadaomi is eating sweats he brought for granny. Tadaomi starts chocking and Maasa brings him tea, so when Tadaomi finally notices her he asks her if she`s an angel. Rin comments how can he notice the existence of Maasa just now. Shitara angrily tells Tadaomi that to him nothing matters as long it is girl and asks him how old is he. Tadaomi answers he`s 25. Shitara exclaims that’s old and gets himself into the fight with Tadaomi telling him he is too insensitive. Tadaomi backfires at him and that engage into the real fight just when Mariho and her grandma enter the room. Rin explains how they ended up struggling and grandma yells at them to stop that. Shitara glances at stunned Mariho and her granny and tells them that he and Rin will be staying in hotel. But when granny sees Mariho going  to escort them to bus station she stops them and says they can stay here cause it`s expensive in hotel , but they have to be careful since they are guys.

Angry Tadaomi informs them he will be also staying here and Shitara tells him he is very angry. Mariho thanks her granny and she explains that during the stay she can keep an eye on him. Rin asks Shitara what will he do and Shitara says he will stay here. Then granny says to Mariho to help her do the dinner and to boys to take a bath before dinner. Rin is complaining again how there is no other shampoo than granny`s and that the bath is from Showa era. But then he tells Shitara he is glad they could stay there, when Tadaomi suddenly enters the bath yelling at them to finish it up already cause he need to be in time with dinner.  Shitara is pissed again, saying to him that he should just go home to take a bath since he is a neighbor but Tadaomi brushes him off telling him it`s too troublesome. they get into fight again Tadaomi tells them he`ll do that later, but when he turns he sees Maasa and calls her „Angel“, what makes her scream and granny yells at him not to walk around naked when girls are here.

It`s finally night, everyone`s sleeping but Mariho, who decides to get some air. There she meets Shitara who is also outside since Tadaomi sleeps next to him. Shitara comments how it`s wonderful here, hearing nothing but bugs and watching beautiful stars. Mariho apologizes for her grandma’s words but Shitara tells her he is used to that. She continues that grandma is just worrying too much and Shitara asks her what worries her and what did she say. Mariho is embarrassed and tries to avoid  it saying it doesn`t matter even if she asks him but he is also persistent so she finally tells him it is if Shitara will love her from this point and won`t be having affairs. Embarrassed Shitara asks her back what about her, will she also be serious and love him in future, what shocks her. He tells her he can`t guess the future, but he loves her very much right now, therefore he wants to show her grandmother he is not insincere.

Remembering how granny asked her does she really know Shitara, Mariho thinks that it is alright to see it herself and even though there are times when he is violent or unsocial, he treasures people and therefore she wants to trust him. Mariho asks him if it is fine to call him by his name and he replies it is. After some moments he asks her will she call him but she tells him she is preparing and calls him Akito. He smiles, blushing, leans forward and they share their first kiss. Meanwhile, Rin is also awake, listening to them and bugs and looks little bit disturbed.

P.S. I just saw chapter 9, it is the festival, Mariho is becoming very pretty, but then… what`s with that ending?!?! L I`ll try to do the summary ASAP.

Mariho is running toward the meeting place with Shitara thinking she`ll bump into someone if she keeps staring bellow. When Shitara appears, she is narrating to Tomi chan from Niigata, that something big happened, she is dating a guy from her class. Shitara asks her if he`s late, but she says it`s still before the meeting time. As they walk together he asks her if she wrote an English essay and if it was difficult for her. She`s blushing awkwardly, agreeing with him. He asks her if today was deadline for math also and she says it probably is, with same face as before, so he comments to her that her smile is stuck what shocks her. In her mind she comments to Tomi that being a girlfriend is nerve wracking and wonders how Shitara can be so cool. Then she asks him if he had cut his hair and he says he did since it`s hot. It`s been already two weeks since they started dating.

They enter the classroom and some guy tells Shitara he has a 1st album of band Shitara mentioned day before yesterday and Shitara replies he also bought the latest recently. Masa tells Rin how Shitara became friendlier with guys recently but Rin without giving specific comment just notice that the two came to school together so he comments that they could come by train, but they walked instead to school. Shitara becomes irritated telling Rin he`s pain in the neck. Rin keeps getting to him and ask him shouldn`t he be more eloquent so Shitara tells him he`s nagging from the morning. Masa asks Mariho to show her the answers from homework when she suddenly screams, seeing the big bug on her desk. But Mariho saves the day for the bug and the rest of the classroom. Mariho is walking through the hallway thinking that everybody is astounded by her, so maybe Shitara will also be when she notices Aira who asks her to have a talk with her. Mariho says she is dating Shitara but Aira yells she knows and that the whole school knows. Then she asks about the hair and Mariho tells her she listened to Aira and cut it cause she didn`t take care of her before. Aira yells again she is being too honest and it sounded almost like sarcasm. Mariho apologizes to her if she really liked Shitara but says that she also honestly likes him. Aira replies it wasn`t serious and that there are lots of fish in the sea but she will tell her one thing, that the whole school is envious of her and since it is his first girlfriend in high school everybody thinks she is lame. Mariho replies that she will try to fight them but Aira becomes angry yelling why are they behaving like friends now.

Finally Mariho joins to her group answering to Masa that girl was Aira from sports day, what makes Shitara surprised. He asks her what did she say but Mariho says nothing really. Shitara asks her why is she hiding it and Masa jumps in saying she looked angry. Mariho says she did say something harsh but at least she says what she really thinks so she doesn`t hate her. Shitara is still looking worried so even when Masa asked him to switch places he refused saying they should go. While walking back Shitara asks Mariho for a date on Sunday, to see a movie etc.

During the class Mariho is nervous thinking what should she do on the date and how to prepare herself for that, she even hit the wall in front of herself. She is browsing her closet at home when suddenly Shitara's message came where he wrote he will be waiting for her at 11 o' clock tomorrow and she forwards the news to Tomi chan. At the end she couldn`t sleep even for 5 minutes. Mariho of course arrived first at the meeting place, so she is thinking that maybe she should go to toilet now so she doesn`t have to interrupt their conversation. At the same time, Shitara meets Masa and Rin at the same place and they ask each other what are they doing here. Shitara tells them he's on a date and Masa and Rin are going to museum. Then they notice Mariho who is writing a "hito" (human) character on her hand and then swallows it so Rin comments that’s the first time he sees human like that. Seeing that, Shitara rushes off and Rin tries to persuade Masa to follow them to movie but Masa doesn't want to meddle into their date.

Shitara approached Mariho saying she is early and Mariho is stunned how good Shitara looks with glasses. They are both surprised how crowded the theater is and they enter the elevator which is so crowded that Mariho is literally glued to Shitara. She is of course freaking out she is stacked to his chest and thinks how he has a nice smell, but Shitara remains his coolness. Just when she thinks she can't take it anymore not to smell him, Shitara informs her they arrived. He tells her to wait cause he`s going to buy tickets. She wanted to pay for hers but of course Shitara wouldn`t let her.  During the movie Mariho is thinking how Shitara is very calm so she should also calm down a little bit. Then she noticed another couple having food so she also stands up saying she`ll go buy drinks. She hurries up to make it to the movie and accidentally spills Shitara`s ice tea on him. She freaks out and starts cleaning him, apologizing and asks if he`s wet. He says he`s fine and she should sit down so she embarrassed do so. After the movie both of them are so stiff and unnatural and Mariho comments the movie was interesting and stone-face Shitara answers that during the middle of the movie he almost fell asleep. He asks her if she`s fine with pasta for lunch and she agrees. While eating Mariho is embarrassed again because they are so close to each other. He asks her if it tastes good so she wonders, does it, cause she is so nervous she can`t even eat and understand the flavor. She leaves to toilet and bunch of girls start commenting Shitara how he is so handsome and the girl beside him can't possibly be his girlfriend but probably his friend`s middle school sister. Looking herself in the mirror Mariho blushes agreeing with them. But then she smiles thinking because he said to her that he liked her before the new appearance she will trust him give her best to become great girlfriend. In that mood she approaches Shitara apologizing for the wait and asks him to go somewhere what surprises him (probably how strong she is). Shitara suggests they ride a famous Ferris wheel, where he tells her how he used to ride this a lot when he was a child, but Mariho says this is her first time and starts feeling weird commenting it is pretty high. Next thing we see is Shitara carrying fainted Mariho out and her waking up on his lap. She apologizes franticly, saying she is fine now. Shitara tells her she should tell him if she can`t handle height but she says she didn`t know it was that high. She apologizes again saying she first spilled a tea on him then felt ill and caused him trouble, thinking to herself how this is not being a good girlfriend.  Shitara tells her she will become sick again if she keeps talking and gives her a tea he bought for her. She is surprised by that and just when she thinks to herself how calm he is he apologizes on his behalf as well, saying he felt nervous so couldn`t even talk to her. She is totally stunned asking him is he really is nervous and he confirms that and asks her whether she knows his name. She responds very naturally that she does and it is Shitara Akito. He looks at her, very composed, and says it`s good that she knows it.

And the chapter ends with Mariho thinking she hopes that the distance between her and Shitara would become smaller.

Sara's comment: Well, nothing really happened in this chapter, but next one is finally becoming more interesting, hopefully the development will speed up a little bit.

Chapter starts with continuation of Mariho and Rin`s conversation, where Rin is telling to Mariho that it looks better with face lotion on, when they notice Shitara. Mariho, thinking that she has to talk to Shitara today greets him, and just when she was about to say she wants to talk she trips over but Rin catches her. Mariho tells Shitara she would like him to listen to her today after meeting but Shitara, acting totally childish, interrupts her saying she doesn`t need to mind him anymore and she should behave like she wants. (Is he jealous of RIN?!?!). She is stunned saying what is he talking about and that he`s probably angry cause she was ignoring him till recently. Rin comments that Mariho became cute so she can easily find a boyfriend and wonders if it is better to make some space for her. But just as she blushes he tells her that there`s no way a handsome guy like himself would fall for her so she shouldn`t get conceited.  Mariho thinks to herself she probably did get a little bit conceited, and that when she`s with Shitara she is always nervous and doesn’t` have a confidence so she thought that if she gets prettier and braves up, Shitara would accept her. Finally, the sports festival starts. Masa calls Mariho to sit with her, but Mariho is acting strange, shivering and saying stuff like she wants to become a shell. She asks Masa at what is she participating and Masa replies she`s doing game two man-3-legs. Mariho says she`s doing borrow-marathon and a race. Than Shitara, all handsome shows up, but seats far from Mariho on purpose. Masa comments that he should seat with them but girls from class interrupts her commenting Mariho`s new hair style and then ask her if she dumped Shitara since they`ve been ignoring each other recently.  They say that Shitara looks so pitiful, what shocks Mariho and she thinks to herself how she didn`t notice that and that she only thought of herself and hurt Shitara.

Mariho is asked to carry stuff in order to prepare track for next game when she hears girls screaming Shitara`s name who is about to enter a 200m race.  She also blushes watching him run so fast and of course winning the game. She wonders if she`s asking for a too much thinking to simply confess to him after hurting him like that. Meanwhile, Rin is far away from the game in his thoughts, reading „Honorific language“when teacher finds him asking him what is he doing and telling him to participate in sport games. Teacher tries to get him to feel like participating with others so Rin tells him he will do the cheering. Girls ask Rin to take a picture with them and he agrees but asks what for. They tell him it is to boast with him to their friends. Also they ask him if he has a girlfriend what he denies. Then it is announced that 5th game is starting, and that’s where Masa is participating together with Shitara so Rin says he has to go to see that. Shitara is already tying their legs and says to Masa to begin with left leg, which is their „middle“leg. Masa responds she gets it but then switches conversation to Mariho bringing up that she has a short hair. Shitara comments how she looks like child/soybean (this kanji has various meanings). Then Aira shows up with her partner, commenting she didn`t know Shitara is also participating in this game. Masa doesn’t know who she is, so Shitara introduces her and Aira tells her not to forget her.

Race started and everybody is cheering but Masa starts with right leg and causes them to fall behind from the very start, but soon they catch up with Aira when both pair tripped again.

After the race in toilet, Aira is washing herself commenting her wound hurts when Shitara walks in asking her if she`s fine (cause they are at fault for their fall). Aira starts dramatizing how she scratched and sprained her leg but when she notices he doesn`t really care she literally hangs on him and asks him to take her to the infirmary cause she can`t walk. He sees right through her so he grips her leg asking which one does it hurt because he can try placing it right but she yells that it hurts and she was lying to him. Then she confronts him saying that liking  that „unattractive and boring“ girl (thinking about Mariho) is probably just killing a time for him, and that he is probably just curious cause she is a simple girl. Then he remembers how Mariho suddenly started to cry saying it is impossible after all for them so he asks Aira if she said something to Mariho. She sweats because she is busted, but Shitara continues it is his business who will he like and if she wants to say something, she should say it to him, and to leave Mariho out of it because he fell in love with her on his own.

Meanwhile Masa is crying she failed again to contribute to their class and Mariho is comforting her saying she did her best. Shitara approaches, looking like he`s not sulking anymore and sits with Rin. Rin asks him where was he and Shitara replies he had to do something. Finally Mariho`s game is announced, it is a borrowing-thing-race. Rin asks Shitara is his mood better now and Shitara replies it isn`t. then shitara tells him that he just watches people`s reactions and understands everything. Masa asks them what are they talking about but Rin laughs at loud. Mariho is thinking how air between her and Shitara was always awkward and that they wasn`t clicking well from the start, saying rude things so she thought she was hated by him. But that changed during the trip, when she realized he`s a honest man. She notices it`s her turn so hurries up and Masa and everybody are cheering for her. As they start running announcer announce that white-class (Mariho and co) has 96 points with 2nd place and red class (Aira) 105 points. Also explains that they should pick something from the box and get with it to the finale. Mariho unfolds the paper to find out her target is „ a boy he likes“. She is shocked and while noticing that everybody else has stuff like umbrella, glasses etc., starts panicking. She thinks of Shitara but then discourages herself again thinking there wouldn`t be troubles if she asks her homeroom teacher. She rushes to where her classmates are, but having Shitara in mind she thinks how he is sweet and tender. Masa and the rest are asking if she needs camera or glasses, but with her eyes closed she yells it is „a guy she likes“. Now everybody`s stunned and teacher says it is alright if he runs with her, but she yells: „Shitara, please run with me! “

 Shitara is shocked but stands up and grabs her hand saying they should run or they`ll lose.  They win but Mariho is so embarrassed that she has her eyes closed again, so Shitara takes her to have some privacy in order to talk. He tells her he will kiss her if she doesn`t open her eyes. She (sadly) instantly opens them and noticing him blushes again. He pulls out her paper with assignment and asks her what is the meaning of this. Mariho replies it means exactly what it says. Shitara nods encouraging her to continue, so she does. She tells him that she can`t control her feelings, like when she is embarrassed or her appearance. He nods again, and she continues again, that she likes how he is straight forward and kind. Shitara tells her that he likes how she is always giving her best. Mariho starts producing hawahawa sound and Shitara asks her what does that mean. Then he messes her hair and tells her he thought that her hair was cute before, as well. She is stunned thinking that this is the first guy she fell in love with and he asks her to date him.

Finally, they are coming back to where rest of the class is and everybody is talking how Mariho did a good job, even boys are commenting that Shitara liked normal girls, after all, so Mariho blushes again thinking how everybody in the class are kind and this is the first time she has so much in her life.

Teacher yells at Rin for switching with others on his own and not participating in one game, and asks him to participate in relay race instead of Kikuchi who is hurt.  Everybody is surprised to see Rin with his hair up participating in the game and wonder if he could handle it.  But much to their surprise, he can handle it great showing he is quite fast runner. Of course Shitara continues Rin`s good job and wins the game, placing their class now as the winners. Teacher says he believed Rin can do it, but Rin is still on the ground feeling sick and saying sky is blue.  

Chapter 5 starts right after Mariho rejected Shitara and he walked away. Rin tells Shitara that work for today is over but then notices that he is acting weird so asks Shitara what happened. He also notices Mariho who is still wrestling with that board so he asks him if it`s fine not to help her, but Shitara yells it`s fine and glares at Mariho who is embarrassed. Rin teases him if it is possible for Shitara to have a broken heart and Shitara angry tells him to shut up.

Mariho is still running with board and thinking to herself why she gave him such answer. Since that is not the case. As she looks herself at the mirror she thinks how she suddenly became embarrassed and remembered Aira`s words that she doesn`t earn to be loved by Shitara.

She is heading home, still mesmerized by what happened, thinking she wanted to know how is she reflecting in Shitara`s eyes but ended up rejecting him. Then she starts in the middle of the street apologizing saying that that is so her doing. She wonders what can she do and what does she want to do. Then she comes across a beauty shop but when a clerk asks her what is she looking for she panics saying nothing and retreats quickly. In the classroom Masa comments that Mariho won`t make it in time for end of recess and is angry at Shitara saying it`s his fault cause Mariho felt bad after she rejected him. Rin interrupts her selfish behavior and Shitara tells her he is also feeling bad. Masa is upset and tells them she`ll go to look for Mariho. Mariho is sitting alone, thinking that this way lunch break seems so long, when Masa finally finds her. She tells her that she understands Mariho is spending time here alone not to disturb Shitara, but it`s fine so she should come with them back to classroom. Mariho answers her she will stay there after all. Masa still insists that the best way is to behave normally, but Mariho, all embarrassed, tells her she`s wrong and that SHE is embarrassed to face Shitara. Masa is surprised by that and Rin comments leisurely she was just fine until recently and asks her if she is embarrassed facing him (Rin). Or any other boys. Mariho replies NO to both questions. Then Rin points out to her that doesn`t that mean that she actually like Shitara. Mariho blushes and Masa concludes it must be it. In the middle of an awkward situation, Mariho`s stomach starts to growl. then they notice that her lunch consisted of juice only, so Rin asks her if she`s on diet. Mariho panics she `s totally seen through and Rin says he gets the picture and she want to reflect well in Shitara`s eyes. Mariho tries to deny it but Rin backfires question why is she lying to herself about her own feelings and says that for a girl wanting to be pretty is the most natural thing. He gives her a whole monologue that she should stop hiding her face behind that hair cause she`s looking like a hornbeam and her hair looks too big for her small body and also with that grey sweater she`s wearing she looks like a mouse. Then he approaches her like a magician asking her: „ Miss Mouse, would you like me to put a magic on you? “

Next all three are at the clothes shop that Rin`s mom owns. After Mariho introduces herself Kanoko also comments she looks like a little mouse. After Rin gets approval to do as they please he tells Mariho it is time for fashion show and they start choosing dresses for her to try on. Mariho finally gets same courage but first dress she finds to like Rin disapproves. He then says to Masa to do Mariho`s hair until he finds a dress for her. Masa decides to make breads for Mariho and to lift her bangs up. Mariho remembers how when she was little, her mum used to do her hair like that. Now they are all waiting for Mariho to step out of changing room to see her and indeed she did have a real make over. Masa and Rin both agree she looks cute. Then as she barely walks in high heels to mirror she is shocked to see herself, at first asking them who that girl is. Looking at herself she thinks that she would probably never wear this heels, one piece or do her bangs like this herself and she never saw herself like this before. Rin asks her what is she thinking after she looked herself and she sincerely smiles and thanks him, saying she has courage now and thanks to Masa and Kanoko as well. When they walk home, Rin says to Mariho that somehow magic seems to be dissolved. He continues that they have clothes for rent as well, for example Masa also wears that. Then Mariho says that she will try something by herself next time. She explains that since she is nervous while talking to Shitara she wants to improve her and then properly face him. Rin asks her if she thought she wanted Shitara to see her in that dress earlier and Mariho blushes saying she did a little bit. Then suddenly Mariho notices Masa looking exhausted of hunger.

Before going home, Mariho drops by the same beauty shop she visited earlier. She explains to lady that is working there she wants a face lotion that matches her face, latex and a sun block. She thinks to herself how girls are working hard in order to be modern.

Next day at school, guys are commenting a panel of A class (Mariho ˛&co.) when they suddenly notice Mariho, looking totally different and cute, and wonder if that girl goes to their school. But when they read the name tag they are shocked that she is Kiyota and say she is looking great. Rin is also stunned by the new look and tells her he likes the hair cause it`s feeling light. Then he asks her if she`s wearing makeup, but she says it is just a face lotion she used. Behind the corner, Shitara is listening the warm conversation of Mariho and Rin...

Chapter begins with Shitara telling Mariho that he`s not joking and that he’s pretty much fond of her. Mariho responds to that by blushing so Shitara cool-faced comments that her face is red. She panics saying she had never done things like dating before and besides she hadn’t get to know Shitara well. Shitara, still very calm says he understands so she should think about him.

She’s doing dinner at home, but distracted from recently talk, she`s thinking to herself what the hell was that all about and tries to calm herself down in order to prepare food. She recollects what happened earlier when Miyake and co. lost keys of storehouse so Shitara was locked there, she demolished the lock and freed him and had his gratitude and then he said he’s fond of her. She wonders if he likes her because she seems strong and he likes martial arts. Then she remembers how girls gathered up suddenly so he said he’s dating Mariho.

She thinks to herself how Shitara’s so handsome that he’s always surrounded by group of girls and gets involved in troubles so maybe he sees her as a bodyguard, because she often protects him from the girls crowd. Then she assumes that it must be it, and that there’s no way he wants to date her romantically. She notices it is already 8pm so she remembers she has to call Masa, who is already sitting in front of the phone waiting. Masa is shocked when Mariho tells her Shitara said he wants to date her. Mariho tells her that he maybe did it on a whim so she doesn`t know what to do, but Masa seems even more confused than her so she tells her to wait until Monday, and thinks to herself she has to read Betsuma (like she’ll find the solution there). Mariho’s dad returns home to find a huge amount of food she prepared so he asks her for how many days she made all this, but she is asleep thinking that because of her mom and dad, if she will date someone it has to be a guy she will really really like, therefore she has to reject Shitara properly.

It’s already Monday and Mariho bumps into Shitara at train station, but she didn’t hope to meet him so fast. They came to understanding that they commute through the same line, and then just when she starts the main topic with him two thugs in train (who obviously lost in some game, I guess money) tease Shitara that his face is handsome and ask him how old is he. Mariho realizes that not only by girls but Shitara is troubled by scary guys as well. They tell him he would earn a lot in shop by tricking women. Then Mariho steps in front of Shitara telling them he won`t do stuff like that cause he`s a normal high schooler so they should stop with insults already. Shitara is surprised and one of the thugs is angry asking what`s with this mouse-like girl, then Shitara pulls her behind himself, apologizing to them.

 They leave the train 3 stops earlier what confuses Mariho where are they going to, but as they reach a safer place Shitara starts yelling at her she did something really dangerous. Mariho explains herself it was for him, but he tells her that it is nothing new for him and since there are people in this world that don`t understand the words it is best to just ignore thugs like that. She apologizes saying she was asked to be a body guard but he interrupts her asking by whom.

NOW she finally gets a picture that he really does want to date her and also realizes he just had protected her so becomes embarrassed. Masa welcomes Mariho in the school saying she’s late a little bit. She looks at Mariho with worry asking her why is she having her PE uniform out since they have math 1st period. Then she hears girls in class discussing if Mariho and Shitara are dating cause someone saw them in train, so she furiously gets on Shitara’s back telling him not to trouble Mariho and asking her suddenly to date him. Girls again involve in conversation, and Mariho is troubled since she didn’t give him her answer yet. Shitara takes all on him saying that he selfishly confessed to her.

Rin is amused, mimicking he is surprised, what only Shitara understood. Mariho is distracted by her thoughts that since Shitara didn’t confess on a whim, she should also considerate her feelings more. Shitara notices she’s not paying attention so he pats her with paper saying it is a program for sport festival.

Their teacher explains that they are starting preparations after school for the up-closing sport festival and each one of them will be heading to activity preparations which they decided. Also he tells to Shitara and Rin that 3rd years asked them to be their cheering leaders but Shitara abruptly declines and Rin says he can`t dance. After class Masa is telling Mariho that she can also discuss with her what`s bothering her, when suddenly Miyake and other girls from their class (ones who wrote that letter) came to her and gave her candies.

Mariho is in charge of setting a stage and she is surprised that both Shitara and Rin wore a PE cloth on, Masa is in charge of outfits and Shitara and Rin of panel. Meanwhile, Masa is getting friendly with other girls from class who are surprised she didn’t choose the same thing as Mariho but Masa, concentrating on her work thinks she has to work hard even without Mariho, but 3rd years start complaining she’s too slow with cutting clothes.

Everybody’s working hard and girls are charmed by Shitara and Rin duo working together, but in fact Shitara is doing all the work. Rin comments how it is rare to see him all hyped up and Shitara says that it is because of Mariho`s phrase “it is fine” she uses with a smile that he can`t leave her alone anymore. Aira is cutting her cheering practice saying she`s going to drink some water when she notices Mariho running through hallways carrying stuff 3rd years asked her to. Aira confronts her by introducing herself as Aira Wakao from class C first, then asking her if she is really dating Shitara. Mariho replies she still didn`t answer him. Aira is furious at her attitude asking her how she dares to leave Shitara waiting. She becomes even more angry yelling that she simply doesn’t understand how can he choose her before Aira. She continues she probably doesn`t like him if she couldn`t answer him right away. Then she starts insulting Mariho, first her hair, then way of dressing up saying she thinks hard every day what to wear and puts a makeup on to be liked by guys. She concludes her monologue saying she hates the idea of Mariho and Shitara and tells her to refuse him cause she is so useless that she doesn`t have qualifications to be loved by Shitara.

Mariho thinks to herself that everything Aira said is true, she`s not making any effort, she never in her life thought she should make herself pretty for a guy, so she probably isn`t ready yet for having a relationship. She gets back to work, and distracted by everything she didn't notice a step but fortunatelly Shitara was there to help her. But, as usual, she wanted to do it by herself so she fell down in the end. Shitara worries about her but she finally tells him she is sorry, but it is impossible to date him. He asks her if that is because she can't get to use to be with a guy or she can`t love HIM. As she wonders if she likes him she blushes but then remembers Aira`s words she is not quialified to be loved by him so she answers BOTH. Shitara tells her: 'I understand. Sorry for troubling yo', and leaves.

Finally during chapter 2, things between Shitara and Mariho became less awkward, so now everybody could hang together peacefully.

They are having lunch at school cafeteria when suddenly Shitara tells Mariho to turn on the infra-red on her cell, what seems to have shocked the entire room of people. Even Mariho thought to herself how Shitara started to converse with her from that day at field trip. As she is turning the IR on, Rin tells Shitara to forward Mariho`s address to him as well. Looking that, Masa becomes jealous because she doesn`t have a cell phone so Rin asks her why doesn`t she buy one already. Masa cries how she is the only one without the cell so Mariho comforts her saying it`s all right cause she will call her at her home phone.

Then suddenly Shitara asks Mariho if she`s fine with seeing blood and asks her if she wants to come to kick-boxing match. He continues explaining that box is a sport but kick-boxing is MA where you use your legs as well. Rin comments how he doesn`t understand what`s so interesting in men fighting and kicking each other and Masa agrees that MA (martial arts) are scary. Then Shitara looking seriously at her says that even though he is inviting Rin and Masa they never come, what makes her realize that it would be just two of them and makes her slightly embarrassed. She thinks to herself how that straight forward glare of Shitara is making her heart skip a beat. Rin teases them how they became such a close friends ever since that trip, but suddenly they are interrupted by group of girls yelling they saw Shitara and Rin.

They are staring at those two commenting how they really are cool and handsome and even looking what are they eating. Yamada and other girl came to talk to Masa and Mariho that those are 1st years and they must be so excited to see 2 handsome senpai`s in the same high school. YAmada comments how during last year`s entrance ceremony also uproar occurred because of them. Shitara, irritated by all that said to Rin they should leave this noisy place, but as they stood up girls started to scream describing their every movement and commenting about beautiful body proportions and then irritated Rin tried I guess provoke them even more by holding out to Shitara`s face like he`s gonna kiss him. While they were leaving the cafeteria, guys were thinking they`re annoying and girls were thinking they`re so pretty and that they would like to walk with them.

Those two 1st years wonder at loud whether they have girlfriends and Masa comments how they are really popular. Mariho asks her isn`t she the same and Masa says there`s no way she is popular, but Mariho tells her she thought there are boys who already confessed to her. Meantime a boy at the background listening to all of this thinks to himself that it`s not the case because there are always 2 bishonens around her.

While trying to go out, Aira bumps into Shitara faking it was an accident and telling her friend „ to stop pushing her“. But Shitara is angry so he just brushes her off while Rin gazes at her saying she did it on her own, what pisses her off. Mariho is about to go buy a juice when Shitara calls out to her asking what is she doing and will she go to kickboxing with him. Masa whispers to her that ticket for kickboxing is expensive so Mariho tells him she`ll think about it. As they leave Aira and rest of girls stare at them madly. Girls from her class talk about Mariho how she`s doing as she pleases with Shitara and that they are jealous of her cause they also wanted to be invited by Shitara since there is no difference between she and them so they also have right for that position. That said, Mariho receives a note left on her table: ‘To Kiyota, stop being friends with Shitara and his friends. Otherwise, you`ll be cursed and things might get missing’.

As Shitara read the letter he became pissed asking the class who wrote this crap. The girls in charge hide behind book, scared of Shitara. Rin comments how last year Masa got the same kind of letter and Masa remembers that her bag was left on the tree. They ask Mariho is she missing something and she answers she can`t find her bag pack. Masa and Rin notice the bag also on the tree but Mariho takes it very calmly saying it`s not a big deal and she runs to climb the tree in order to get the bag. Masa is terrified of the scene, scared she`ll fall, Shitara looks at her amazed and Rin comments in his own style that she`s a girl that obviously put up with harassment.

After class Masa asks Mariho if it`s fine not to wait her and Mariho replies that she has a duty shift anyway so she should go with Rin and Shitara and she will call her as always on phone at 8 pm. When they leave Masa wonders if Mariho will be fine or will they harass her again. Then a student came telling Shitara that teacher is asking him to come to the north side of school building in warehouse. Shitara asks him why what intimidates the guy and he says he doesn’t know he was just asked to pass the message to him. Shitara tells Rin and Masa he’ll go and see so they should go ahead of him, but as he comes closer to the storehouse he becomes more suspicious what`s this all about and what is he supposed to help to carry, when door suddenly closes and locks. He’s pissed yelling he won’t forgive to one who did this, and now we can see it was all a trap from jealous girls from the class. So girls had an idea to ‘rescue’ him and then he will be very happy and thankful to them and then they will become friends. The leader of girls was so happy she got this idea that while she was spinning the key around her finger praising herself that she is a genius, keys fly away in the water (canalization perhaps).

Mariho is checking if she did all of her duty stuff and says she just has to return the journal to teacher when she finds the earlier letter by accident. She wonders who wrote that and is surprised that there really are girls that doesn`t want her to be friends with Shitara and Rin, she wonders that maybe they to want to become their friends, too.

Mariho returns the journal to teacher and hears there other teacher complaining how the storage key went missing, and in the same time stupid trio is still struggling over the fact that they lost keys and can`t become Shitara’s heroes. Shitara’s thinking that since he doesn’t have signal nobody will come and he won’t be able to get out, then starts yelling to open the door. Girls are thinking that they should now probably call the teacher to save him but the one in charge is scarred because she thinks someone could have seen her when she was taking the key. Mariho is walking by when she hears Shitara screaming madly to open the door so she wonders if he`s locked in, and girls are calling her capybara and are telling her that they accidentally lost the key. Mariho breaks the lock and frees Shitara. He asks her why is she here so she replies that she was asked by teacher cause the key was missing. He asks her if she saw someone cause he wants to beat them up but Mariho lies saying she didn`t, which surprises both bad girls as well as Shitara.

Then Shitara suddenly grabs Mariho`s arm saying she hurt herself, on what she reacted with blushing. he asks her is she`s sure she doesn`t want to go to infirmary since there is probably first aid kit and she declines, but a girl inside the class sees them and informs

Aira who is not happy with that scene. He`s trying to put a bandage on her finger but she`s restless insisting she can do it by herself. Her hands starts trembling and he tell her she shouldn`t have done that, but got some tool instead, but nevertheless he puts a smile and sincerely thanks her. She pushes him away saying she`s fine, but when he laughs charmingly, she thinks to herself she has to calm down cause her face will become red, but she`s never been friend with someone like Shitara and Rin so she nervously tells him they should leave. BUT! Aira rushes down to them, kicking Mariho away, she hangs around Shitara`s arm asking him if they will go together home. He brushes her off again asking her to let go, but then whole crowd of girls gather around him like he`s some kind of art, asking to take pictures with him. Now Aira is pissed at them saying to 1st years they should know their places, since she is now talking to him but they answer her back that she`s not his girlfriend so what`s the big deal. Meantime, Shitara helps Mariho to get up and tells her they are going. Both Aira and 1st years seem angry and sad asking what about picture/talking. Pissed Shitara tells them that he will only tell them one thing, that he has a girlfriend, and as he reaches to Mariho`s hand he says he`s dating Mariho. Ahahaha, I don`t know who is more shocked by them, girls or Mariho. He starts running with her and she thinks what the hell happened and that his grip is so strong. As she barely gets some air she asks him what was that joke about, but he replies to her that it is not a joke but he really does like her!!!
