Principal 13 raws [HERE]
In the beginning, Shima looks at her outstretched palms and tells herself (thinks) that she really couldn't do much from the start.
While she is walking in the street, Shima notices the display of a shop from its first floor window, seeing the crockey inside. She thinks that the crockery goods are so cute. She is then in a bookshop where she notices a display of personal diaries. She picks up one that says ‘Three Years Diary’ on the cover page. She muses that it would be nice for her to continue writing the third day’s entry. <?>
She thinks of what she wrote for her mother. ‘Mum, I hope you’re okay. I guess I’ve properly started to keep a diary. In the past, the unwritten work would be kept in the kitchen. You'd be in some mood and talking of your boyfriend. I haven’t seen you since then right? Well, its not something that ordinary people might notice, but writing something like a diary makes your feelings <? SENSEI, KANJI HELP>,you will get to steadily notice yourself. If by accident you are sick of yourself, or you feel pity on yourself, please don’t be pained by it’
Shima’s scene ends here.
In the next scene, Gen is standing, leaning back onto the wall while Yumi-chan walks past him with a slight blush on her cheeks as she has noticed him standing there. Gen addresses her asks:<?> <Don’t understand what he asks as there’s an unknown character after 無>
Yumi doesn’t turn around to respond to what he asked. So he calls her by name and asks her to face him. After contemplation in silence, she says she wouldn’t, saying its impossible. Gen blushes slightly and says he understands. He says he is sorry for being pushy the other day, says he’ll get the restaurant reservation he had cancelled to be valid again, and also says that just as Yumi had said, he won’t meet her again after that. He bids her goodbye.
Surprised, Yumi turns around to look at him with a vivid blush on her cheeks. Wao has come closer to her and says that though he said goodbye, its not like he’ll follow it up. Yumi is taken aback by surprise yet again. With a blush, she turns back to look at him. Wao sees that and says ‘as if that’ll happen!’, comes even more closer to her while saying so and thus shocking Yumi a little with his proximity. With her blush more profound, Yumi tells Wao that he’s a bad child. Wao blushes, too, looks up closing his eyes and asks her what part of him is bad.
They stand facing each other and Wao says that she’s always pretending. There is a pause on both sides, with both of them blushing. Yumi then slowly begins to say that she never wanted to say it in all her life. Wao wonders what it might be, and Yumi confesses that she likes him. Wao immediately goes to hug her when she stops him and exclaims him to wait. She says that she wants to remain as a ‘teacher’ for a little more while. With glistening eyes and a light blush, Wao says yes, that he will wait. He says that he will always wait, even if he dies.
Cheeks red, Shima’s friend tells her that she saw all this from Gen’s <dunno kanji>. Shima is a little taken aback, says that is just great. She then asks how she and Gen are doing. She asks as to what happened that day after that incident (of the girl confessing to Gen). Shima asks the girl what Gen had replied with. Her friend pauses a little and says ‘yes.’ When Yumi questions that, she says that Gen had just said ‘yes.’ And then, Gen had asked her ‘why?’ Then he got up and told her that he wondered how those two are doing, and that he’ll go see them (referring to Shima and Wao).
Shima says that it so typical of Gen and smiles into the phone. The girl replies that such a part of him (his behavior like that) is also fine with her. Shima asks whether they got to go out anywhere, or do something after that. The girl replies saying yup, he said he’ll see me around and it ended at that. Shima asks if Gen was <dunno the kanji here> to which the girl says she doesn’t know, in a drawling tone. The girl asks Shima as to what Wao is doing currently to which Shime replies that she doesn’t know. The girl asks if Wao is not at home, and says ‘Oh gosh no~’ She thinks if he might be at… (she wonders what he’s doing or where he might be) That’s when Shima says that no, she isn’t at home, and that she is at a manga cafe. The girl asks Shima what she’s doing.
The scene is now Shima’s residence where her dad is calling her, and she isn’t picking up though the phone rings for a long while. Her dad is frustrated and shouts asking why Shima won’t pick up the call. Wao’s mum (Shima’s stepmom) reprimands Wao, asking him why they didn’t return home together, and asks him what he’s doing. Wao suddenly remembers that he threw his phone in the trash can and tells his parents that he’ll go over to Gen’s place for a little while. While he turns his back to leave, his dad’s phone rings and he in relief cries out tears and asks the person at the other end if its Shima.
Shima apologises, saying that she carelessly slept away at the manga cafe. Her dad waves his fist and cries out to her that he was worried and her mum is smiling at this. Shima quickly apologises twice and says that she’ll return home. Wao exclaims that he’ll go get her, and asks where to go. Shima says on the phone that its okay as she’s nearby and that she’s now crossing the park. She then says that there’s a pervert there, hearing which both Wao and her dad are visibly upset and hurry further. Wao runs ahead. Shima’s dad asks him to wait and asks if its okay for him to go ahead first, Wao replies saying ‘not at all.’ Shima’s dad wonders if he meant that in an ‘its okay’ way or in a negative way.
Shima notices the shadows of Sumire, Wao and her dad running towards her and tells herself that its great that her dad, her brother and her dog are running to come to her with a happy smiling face. Wao apologises saying he’d returned home as he thought she’d already gone home. Shima’s dad yells at her saying ‘enjoyment at night’ is prohibited from now on. Shima asks with a disgruntled face as to what ‘enjoyment at night’ means. Wao says that going alone to manga cafe at night is banned right? to which he gets an affirmative reply.
Shima closes her eyes, and says she’s doing a little preparation for her heart. Wao looks at her quizzically. He asks what but she just links arms with him and her dad and goes home with them, thinking to herself that winter’s come. Meanwhile, Gen is in his room sitting, looking at Wao’s phone while someone’s asking if he has slept yet. Mostly from the phone. He doesn’t reply.
Shima and Wao wish Gen a good morning the next day at school very brightly with happy faces. He just stares at them and says something’s weird about those two’s faces. Shima and Wao look at each other holding their own cheeks and wondering what’s weird and lightly accusing each other of being the weird one. Gen asks them to stop such things, to stop what they’re doing. He turns and goes away. Shima and Wao ask what, to which he answers them without turning back. He says he wants them to stop this kind of elementary schoolkid sort of behavior and that to have such friends makes him a little embarrassed is what he tries to hint. He turns back to look at Wao, says you’re alright now right? Shima sweatdrops and little and asks herself if Gen is docile.
Haruka is seen standing at the corridor and Wao and Shima wish her good morning, and she does so, too. Gen stares blankly while Shima sweatdrops that Haruka has a feeling to eat. Out of everyone there, Haruka approaches Gen and asks if he wants the bentou she has prepared by her mum. Gen says okay nonchalantly and she runs to get it. Gen asks what’s up with Haruka while she runs off, Wao and Shima mentally say that its female instincts. Later when they walk toward class, the group sees Gen’s older sister walking toward her and the students wishing her a good morning. She looks very happy and bright, wishes them a good morning and gets the same reply from three of them except for Wao who’s scratching his head, blushing. By the group, I mean Shima, Wao, Gen and Haruka. Wao sees her walking away with a blush, Gen notices this. Bashes him on the head and Wao asks him to stop. Shima smiles, but then remembers what Gen had told that morning to ‘stop acting like that’ The boys stop. Wao turns back with a grin at Gen and tells him he’s totally fine. Gen asks if that’s the reason why Wao made a weird face, because Gen was surely merry. <i dunno if that is what he means to say here>. Yup,says Wao.
Wao says because he wanted to be merry but ended up being furious. Gen says he’s not a child. He then remembers about Wao’s phone being with him, gives it back, Wao says thanks. Gen tells Wao that he ran away just after throwing it away in front of Gen. Wao says it wasn’t like that. Gen gets mad a little. Wao exclaims in surprise that Gen was just messing around while the latter lets out a whistle. <There is a small bubble having text in this page which I can’t see well even if I zoom in. I can’t make out what it is! this is page 29>
Everyone in the room stop conversing and stare at them. Gen and Wao are creeped out a little, agree to eat outside. After they’re out, Shima exclaims that they ran away! To which another girl says that they ran away with taking their bentou boxes. Haruka says that cooking is actually her hobby and everyone wonders if that’s so and ask her that. She tells them that the bentou that she’s been telling everyone that her mum prepared is actually what she cooked, and says she wanted to tell Gen that and that’s why she had started to strike up a conversation with him earlier. <i dont know the kanji of what each girl tells her>
Shima smiles and muses to herself saying that all this is what’s support, says Gen might not be with Haruka as to how her dad and Wao’s mom are, and like how Wao and Gen’s sister are. And that they will not be like her mom and stepdad, too. She also says mentally that its not like she doesn’t wish for their thoughts to be properly relayed to each other. She’s home and goes out when she sees Sumire, asks her what’s wrong and pets her. She tells Sumire that Wao has a fever and that he can’t come out of the room, and that he’s been happy of late. And that its strange that he’s always so passionate and merry. The doorbell rings and Gen comes in.She tells him Wao is sleeping but Gen climbs up the stairs. Shima tells him its a holiday so Wao is in that mood. Gen says he’s worthless as he had made Wao eat outside food though he knew he had a fever. He turns to look at Shima and tells her he has something to discuss with her.
Yumi is suddenly shocked and wonders what Gen has to say to her, about what in worry. To her surprise, he asks her what is to be done on a date and how. Shima picks up the little rabbit from the bowl and asks Mr. Rabbit in a mocking voice as to what to do on a date. Gen says he’s asking for someone else when Shima asks if its with Haruka. She asks him if the venue for the date is decided, and says it’ll be very exciting if the venue is a zoo. Then they discuss on how to go, decide on the subway. He then asks if the couple should go together, Shima says what’s the point if they go to the zoo separately. Gen asks what to do about food, Shima asks if Haruka will be preparing the bentou. Then he asks her what to talk about. She says its okay to talk about anything they feel. He asks her what about returning home. Shima has had enough and shouts for him to wait. Then there is a pause between the two for a while.
Shima asks him with a blush if he’s ever gone to the zoo with Wao. He says yes and she says it’ll be fine if he’ll be just like that. Smiling, she says it’ll be fine if he’s just like his usual self without thinking much of anything. He says he understands. He says it’ll be on Sunday when she asks him when. He leaves, she bids him bye and asks him to work hard at it. He replies saying it won’t be like him if he does that and leaves. Just then Wao comes down clutching his stomach, saying to himself that the fever has risen. Wao stands next to Shima, asks her if they could go, too: shocking her. He wonders if their father is free and says that he wants to go with them all. She asks him if his fever is okay. He says yes, tells her they should all go on Sunday to the zoo. Shima says, ‘Well..okay..but its someone else that Wao wants to go with right?’ in a teasing tone. The siblings nudge each other playfully, and Wao says ‘To the zoo with the family huh’ and smiles. ‘For the first time!’ they declare together and ask each other ‘Really?!’ They exclaim together in joy.
Next scene. Yumi’s mother tells her that she’s decided on the next partner. Yumi is clueless, asks what. Her mother asks her not to be rude this time like the last time Yumi had to diss her partner, says that Yumi’s excuse of having a stomach ache the last time was so childish and unacceptable and says that its really not nice if an Omiai (match-making ceremony) doesn’t go the way it should. Yumi tells her mother that just as she said before, she won’t ever go to an Omiai. Eating a cookie, saying its delicious, her mother asks her what she’s saying--inspite of making it bad the first time. She says that the person (man) for this time sounds great, all things considered. With a blush, Yumi firmly tells her mother that she won’t do the omiai, says sorry. Her mother asks why, asks if Yumi has a person she is committed to. She says probably so on noticing Yumi’s blush. There’s a pause and her mum asks again if there’s someone like that. Yumi says no to which her mum says that’s almost expected for someone like her. Yumi then says that its like, there is no one, but then again there is someone. Her mother says yes, its all in Yumi’s imagination and asks her to stop this now while she is in her student life. Yumi shouts that its not like that. Her mother shouts back at her asking, then what is it like, and tells her to bring that person home.
Yumi doesn’t answer her, blushes away. ‘See? There’s no one. Now, eat the cake.’ is what her mum says. Yumi says slowly while blushing that the person has come over to their place so many times so far. Her mother is left bewildered.
Shima opens a new page in her diary and writes: This is the first time that ever since I saw him, ‘W’ made such a boy-like face. I feel embarrassed that I looked down on him without knowing about ‘Y’. And ‘H’ confessed to ‘G’! I’m aimless (laughs). I keep wandering from one manga cafe to another without minding the coldness (of the weather). I wander through the winter of my heart. My family came to receive me.
Another entry: ‘H’ is fighting (doing her best) with making an obentou! Actually her hobby is cooking! So awesome! Mine and W’s bentous match.
Another entry: ‘G’ seems to be wimping out for his first date. When I was in Tokyo, I was alone and bad things happened to me but I now have family and friends just like what I’ve always dreamed about. I feel that I am in a place where other are jealous of me, for along with being popular at school, I feel like a princess. But if you actually look it, me in the middle of everyone and everything else is just a loner in the end. Look now, there’s nothing good in writing a diary.
