Chapter 32: Senpai and Kouhai
Narration: “There is something I have to tell her.”
The chapter beings with Kyou arriving at Miyake’s place. Miyake is rather surprised to see him out of all people. Kyou apologizes and tells him that he asked for his address from someone in the basketball club. Miyake then asks him if his cold has gotten better, but Kyou, impetuously blurts out that it is his fault Nina had canceled their date, and explains the dilemma. Miyake interrupts Kyou by telling him that it is no longer important since Nina and him have already broken up.
Now we see Yuiko helping Nina with her studies while praising her by telling her that she’s doing pretty well for something she’s bad at. Nina is confused and wonders why she came. Yuiko then asks her if Kyou’s cold has gotten better, but before Nina has a chance to answer, Yuiko wonders aloud how Nina came to realize Kyou’s true feelings. Nina is stunned as she remembers the time when Kyou thought she was sleeping and hugs her. Yuiko meanwhile notices Nina blush unconsciously. Yuiko continues saying how it was obvious that he’s always liked Nina, but Nina interrupts her and exclaims that she is wrong. Nina then explains the time she confessed to him and ended up being rejected- “I can’t see you in that way." Yuiko recalls the first time Kyou and her began going out. Flashback: Yuiko kisses him and he blushes. She asks him why he’s blushing saying that it’s probably not the first time he’s kissed someone like that. He tells her, while remembering Nina‘s kiss, that he’s not sure he considers that a kiss. End of flashback. Yuiko then thinks to herself that Kyou has rejected her a lot more times than she thought. She then suggest sarcastically that Nina should casually cling to him while saying –“I like you“- and sleep together. Nina is shocked. Yuiko continues saying that she can’t really mean her confession to that kind of boy anyway.
Kyou can’t believe they have broken up, and then recalls the time Keisuke yelled at him for making Nina cry. Miyake confesses that he’s always been jealous of the fact that they live next to each other, and that it was only natural for them to be so close. However, he regrets not being able to realize the way Nina looked at Kyou, and her feelings for him. Kyou also admits his envy towards Miyake, and says that things like eating together and sleeping in the same room have always been natural since the beginning and he knew Nina was cute from way before.
As Yuiko is about to take off, she tells Nina that playing defenseless while saying I like you will only make her seem like the bad guy, and asks if she’s decided to move on telling her that she’s been through the same thing. Nina is speechless as she watches Yuiko leave.
Kyou apologizes once more for the sudden intrusion, and adds that he really needed to make things clear. He once again mentions that it wasn’t Nina’s fault. As he’s leaving, he asks Miyake if his feelings for Nina have changed. Miyake angrily asks him if he thinks his feelings can change so easily. Kyou smirks and says that he’s glad. Confused, Miyake yells at him to wait and asks him what he meant by that and asks if he intends to confess to Nina. Kyou turns around and with a smile replies, “I will, I’ll tell her properly.”
Miyake is on the phone with somebody who asks him if he’s fine and if he wants to go together to Hatsumode on New Years to which he agrees. He then notices his class picture, with Nina beside him, and as he lays down, he remembers certain stuff that happened and thinks that Kyou does like her after all. He wonders if (as he remembers Kyou’s words that he will tell her) it is a mutual love and murmurs- “I’m glad for you, Uemura.“ As he remembers his own words (that Nina should go to where she can laugh the most, because it‘s her happiness that matters the most), he says to himself to stop fooling around and exclaims in despair, “Why is it so irritating?”
Translator’s Comment: FINALLY A CLIFFHANGER! :) Still hate the idea of Nina&Kyo pairing up, though...
