Tora to Ookami 20 [Translation]

From the volume cover:

Story Summary:
Mii finally realizes that she likes Ookami, but because Ookami’s always too busy, the two of them lose the opportunity to broach the subject. On the other hand, Tora, who has been silently watching the two of them on the sidelines, finally makes a decision…

The touching finale!!

Recap of Previous Events:
Torisawa Mii is a high school student who loves BL and usually helps her grandmother with their family restaurant. One day two male customers named “Tora” and “Ookami” came, and each was so beautiful that it caused a lot of delusions to appear in Mii’s head, to the point where she wrote a BL novel on her blog. She didn’t expect that after the two of them graduated from college, they actually appeared at her school as teachers.

Beniko secretly took a photograph of Mii and Ookami settling their differences, and used it to threaten Mii. She was then forced to maintain distance from the two of them, but didn’t think that Beniko would actually use low tactics to cause her family’s restaurant to become a complete mess, even going out of business.

Luckily Ookami figured out Beniko’s true nature in time and saved Mii. Angry, Beniko made a false report to the teaching director, causing Ookami to be treated severely by the school. But Ookami also took this opportunity to leave the teaching profession…

Estella's comment: Here's one of my favorite chapters from the whole series!

Chapter 20 Translation:

Page 1
Ookami-Senior: Ken isn’t ready yet? Why is he taking forever! I refuse to allow him to be late on his first day!
Housekeeper: I’ll go check on him.

Page 2
Housekeeper: Aahh! Young master! The master is waiting for you!
Ookami: I heard already, so noisy.
Ookami-Senior: You’re finally here! Get in the car! Today we’re going to introduce you to the directors and shareholders.

Page 3
Ookami-Senior: Running off to be a teacher… what a waste of an entire year!
Ookami: This shopping street… is already being torn down?
Ookami-Senior: Mm, we finally can tear it down. In half a year this will be our company’s large-scale culinary square.

Page 4
Ookami-Senior: We had to go through a lot of trouble to convince all the people here to move.
Worker: Hey, miss! You can’t go in there!
Mii: Can I just take a look? I used to live on this shopping street.
Worker: The excavator is going in soon, so you have to come out within three minutes!
Mii: Okay, thank you!

Page 5
Mii (thinking): Our shop, it’s really gone.
Grandmother: I’m not going. I can’t bear to see our restaurant get torn down.

Page 6
Worker: Miss, are you done? We’re about to resume work.
Mii: Okay!
Mii (thinking): Ookami’s replacement, is a stodgy and dull teacher.
Teacher: Okay, roll call. Okay. Okay, everyone take your seats!
Student: I think you said a few too many “okays” there?
Student: Pfft!
Teacher: Okay, you over there, settle down!

Page 7
Student: Hey, Mii! Would you like to go to the new cake shop by the station?
Mii: Ah, sure— I’ve been wanting to go for a while now!
Shishio: You’ve changed, actually going to eat cake with classmates after school.
Mii: It’s none of your business!
Mii (thinking): That’s right, my relationship with the other students in my class has changed a bit.
Student: Mii used to go straight home after school.
Mii: That’s right, since I needed to help prepare the shop to open for business.

Page 8
Student: Isn’t the cultural festival almost here? What sort of stall will our class set up for it?
Student: Do we have to decide today in class? I don’t know what to do.
Student: If it was Ookami, he’d definitely say… “So what about the cultural festival? How annoying!” Right?
Student: He’d definitely say that! Your impression was right on!
Student: He really didn’t seem like a teacher.
Student: I don’t know what he’s doing now, or if he’s doing well…
Mii (thinking): Even though Ookami left, my classmates still bring him up all the time.

Page 9
Blackboard:
Cultural Festival Stalls
-         Selling food
-         Karaoke
-         Haunted house
-         Grilled octopus
Teacher: Then, let’s make a decision. First, everyone in favor of selling food, raise your hands! Oh? So many… Then it’s decided that we’ll do a restaurant? But wait a second… Do any of you know how to cook?
Student: Of course! Torisawa-san knows how!

Page 10
Mii: Eh? Me?
Teacher: Ah, that’s right! Great! Can you show us where to stock up on ingredients?
Mii: Yes… I can.
Teacher: Then it’s decided! What sort of food should we make?
Student: Fried shrimp!
Student: Fried pork ribs!
Student: What about Okonomiyaki?
Student: Also hamburger patties!
Mii (thinking): Fried… shrimp, fried pork ribs? It’s all really expensive items…
Mii: Eh, classmates, how about we agree on a theme?

Page 11
Students: Theme?
Mii: Right, for example, if we’re going for an Asian-style or Southern Pacific style. Then we’ll design meals around the theme, with main entrees and sweets on the side.
Student: Wow, sweets? Great! I’d like some pastries!
Student: If we’re going with pastries, then we how about we do Hawaiian-style pastries?
Student: With a ton of frosting on top!
Mii: If we’re doing a Hawaiian theme, then we can use locomoco as the main dish!
Student: What’s locomoco?
Mii: It’s a kind of common Hawaiian food, with a hamburger patty and egg over white rice, along with sauce. We can use teriyaki sauce for that.
Students: Wow—! Stop already! My stomach’s getting hungry already!

Page 12
Shishio: Speaking of Hawaii, one’d think of Hawaiian shirts first. My friend has a secondhand clothes shop, so I can borrow some from him!
Student: Great!
Tora: I heard that your Class 3 is opening a Hawaiian-style café?
Mii: Yes. We’re going to sell Hawaiian Donburi and pastries.
Tora: That’s wonderful! I’ll definitely come support you guys! Because I no longer get to have your cooking.
Mii: Tora, --how is Ookami doing?

Page 13
Tora: I haven’t been able to contact him, probably because he’s really busy after just entering the company.
Mii: …So it’s like that.
Tora: This is also the first time I haven’t seen him in so long.
Mii: Tora, I heard that you’re painting a very large work? Can I tell you my new address? We’d be happy to have you over for dinner anytime.
Tora: Okay, thanks!
Student: Tora-sensei! Can you come here for a second?
Tora: Oh, I’ll be right there! See you then, Mii.

Page 14
Mii: Mm, goodbye!
Mii (thinking): Ever since we moved, Tora hasn’t come visit even once. Maybe he’s afraid that he’ll cause trouble for me.
Student: Mii! Let’s go eat cake!
Mii: Okay!
Mii (thinking): Back when the Sunflower Café was still open, this sort of thing was impossible.

Page 15
Mii (thinking): Now that I have my own free time, and my classmates invite me to go out, I get to go eat cake with everyone just like I’d always dreamed about…
Mii (thinking): I should feel happy about this,
Mii (thinking): But I--

Page 16
Mii: Wow, Tanabe-san, thank you!
Tanabe: I haven’t brought stock to you for a while. I’d thought that since the Sunflower Café closed, there’d no longer be the opportunity.
Mii: This is because tomorrow is our school’s cultural festival, and we’re going to open a café.
Tanabe: Really—! You’re cooking? Then it’ll definitely be professional-grade!
Mii: That’s why I had to prepare the ingredients today. If you have time, then you’re welcome to come. This is the menu.
Tanabe: Okay, I’ll bring my daughter with me.
Mii: Thanks for giving me a discount!

Page 17
Student: Mii…where should I put this?
Mii: Put it over there. First we have to cut the onions.
Student: Really? But I’ve never cut onions before!
Mii: No problem! Then I’ll do it. Can you guys help me peel the skins off?
Students: Whoaaaa!
Mii: Next we need to add some nutmeg.
Student: Nutmeg? What’s that?
Mii: It’s a kind of flavoring that’ll remove the unpleasant odor from the meat. We need to stir it until it starts sticking together, and then mold it into shape, and place an indentation in the middle.

Page 18
Mii: Tomorrow we’ll heat it in the oven. The teriyaki sauce is done too!
Student: It smells so good! You’re so quick at it, Torisawa-san!
Student: I definitely have to learn how to make this, so I can make it for my boyfriend!
Student: Is that what they mean by “stomach marriage” right now?
Student: Ah… but it seems like this move is pretty effective!
Student: I heard that if you’re thinking about someone when you’re cooking for him, then he’s the one you truly like in your heart.
Yoko Kamio’s sidebar:

Hello everyone!

This is the last volume.
Thanks to everyone for all the support!

Lately, I’ve continued to use Vita Mix to make fruit and vegetable smoothies.

Like adding spinach, apples, exotic fruit, and various other fruits together, and then turning it into fluids. I drink it every morning.

It’s really good for you. I feel like I get colds much less often.

But I never did get colds very often to begin with.

Page 19
Student: Ah, that’s understandable!
Student: Hey, Mii! Is this too much flour? (There’re eight bags…)
Mii: Ah, I wanted to use that to make door gifts for the customers. Have you heard of fortune cookies?
Student: They can predict your fortune?
Mii: You just write today’s fortune on a piece of paper, and then put it inside of a cookie to go bake.
Student: Oh, it sounds pretty interesting! Let me write one too!
Mii (thinking): I’m really looking forward to…

Page 20
Shishio: There’s a Hawaiian Café on the third floor, so you should definitely come!
Girl: That guy’s really hot! We need to go to the third floor!
Student: I heard there’s a really good café here!
Student: It’s so professional it doesn’t seem like it’s run by students!
Student: Really? Let’s go then!

Page 21
Student: It’s, so, good—!
Student: Mii, wow! The line’s gotten so long!
Mii: I’ll keep on cooking! Have you sliced the tomatoes? Kawata!
Kawata: I’m cutting them right now! So noisy!
Customers: It’s so good! It’s like it was made outside in a restaurant!

Page 22
Student: These are door gifts, everyone can take one.
Students: Wow! So cute! And there are little papers inside! It says I’m going to have a really good chance meeting today!
Student: It’s so good! Thank you!
Students: Hearing everyone say “it’s good,” makes me feel so happy!

Page 23
Mii (thinking): “It’s good,” these two words really are pretty magical. It makes one feel happier the more they cook. I remember when I first met Ookami, I’d also did my best to hear those two words.
Flashback: I heard that if you’re thinking about someone when you’re cooking for him, then he’s the one you truly like in your heart.

Page 24
Mii: Oh that’s right, is there any flour left?
Student: Mm, there’s some.
Mii: I hope everyone will help me write some stuff.
Student: Write? Write what?
Mii: Also, I’ve finished cooking everything needed for this Hawaiian café, so I’m going to go deliver something in a while, okay?
Student: Deliver? Okay.

Page 25
Mii (thinking): I really do love to cook. Ever since our shop closed, my heart felt like it was emptied out. But now, seeing the customers’ happy smiles, it feels full once again.
Man: Ookami-san, I heard that you went to teach at a high school for a year?
Ookami: Yes.
Man: That’s really quite rare. How was life as a teacher?

Page 26
Ookami: It was just to pass the time.
Man: Is that so…
Ookami: But I met a lot of people there, so that was pretty interesting.
Man: Haha! That’s true. So you must’ve learned how to deal with distasteful people, right? Is this your father’s leadership theory?
Ookami: There really weren’t as many distasteful people as you’d think. Also, my being a teacher had nothing to do with my father. Goodbye.

Page 27
Ookami: Pisses me off! Lousy old fox!
Man: He’s still a client though, and your attitude just now…
Ookami: How many more are there?
Man: We still need to visit two of them.
Ookami: Okay, let’s get it over with!
Mii (thinking): I remember that I once… came here before. At that time, I brought a delivery box, to go ask Ookami’s father to not force us to shut down our café.

Page 28
Mii: It’s here… This building really is pretty intimidating.
Receptionist: Hello. What is your business here?
Mii: Ah, about that… I… I’m looking for Ookami-san, uh, the younger Ookami-san.
Receptionist: Do you have an appointment?
Mii: No.

Page 29
Mii: Could you please tell him that Torisawa Mii is looking for him.
Receptionist: …Please wait a minute. This is the front desk, is Executive Director Ookami there? The Executive Director is out, and we’re not sure when he’ll be back.

Page 30
Mii: Is that so? Then could you please… give this to him? This is food, but it’s fine if he doesn’t eat it today.
Receptionist: Ah, I can’t. Because of safety precautions, we can’t take food…
Mii: Please!
Receptionist: Ah, wait a second!
Mii (thinking): And he’s an Executive Director, what a joke!

Page 31
Mii (thinking): He clearly can’t eat anything from outside, but he still goes to work in that sort of building! It really is such a joke… So Ookami’s already so far away from me…
Receptionist: Ah, Executive Director. Roughly an hour ago, a young girl came to visit, saying that she wanted to give this bag to you… But I refused.

Page 32
Ookami: Where did she go?
Receptionist: Ah? But, she already left an hour ago! She should be long gone by now--

Page 33
Ookami: That’s right. Today is the cultural festival.
Man: The Executive Director is eating.
Man: That’s right… this is the first time I’ve seen him eat anything. I never knew what he’d eat usually.

Page 34
Ookami: What are these? Cookies? There’s a piece of paper. And there’s writing…
Paper: Ookami, how are you? Come visit if you have time! Tahara-chan.
Paper: I really want to hear you yell “Go die!” once again. (Laugh) Ota.
Paper: Thank you for teaching us so much. Machida.
Paper: I really miss you! Ookami
Paper: Good luck! Ookami!

Page 35
Paper: I really do admire you, because you’re not like a teacher at all. Kawada.
Paper: Ookami! If you have time, then come visit!
Paper: Without you, it’s so boring! Tanaka.

Page 36
Ookami: So annoying! You’re all so tiresome.

Page 37
Mii: Ah.
Shishio: You’re back. Did you see Ookami?
Mii: No, he wasn’t there. But I gave it to the receptionist, so maybe he’ll see it tomorrow.
Shishio: Mii, what I told you before--

Page 38
Shishio: Going out with me, what’s your answer…?
Ookami: Oh… Shishio.
Paper: (Shishio)
Damnit!

Page 39
Paper: I still can’t defeat you! (Shishio)

Page 40
Mii: …Shishio, sorry.

Page 41

Paper: I really like you. Torisawa Mii.

CHAPTER 19

Translation script/summary hybrid thingy thing.

Code:

(T) - thoughts

(text) - summary

New paragraph = new frame

Also, I shorten long names when indicating who’s speaking (i.e. Oo = Ookami)

[Page 1]

Cover.

[Page 2]

(Selling Himawari.)

[Page 3]

(Man talking about plans for the food court they’re building and blah blah. Grandma saying the plan was always to close up shop in her lifetime.)

[Page 4]

(Grandma assures Mii that selling was the right decision. Their place was the last to sell of all the shops in the street, so it would have been hard for them to keep running anyway, and the restaurant was very worn down.)

[Page 5]

Mii: Wait!

Mii: Uhm.

Mii: Could you tell me something?

Mii: What is the reason this plan was postponed for a year?

Dude: Ah... // I just heard it was the president’s orders.

Dude: I’m sorry, // I don’t know the details.

“So that promise still counts.”

“He’d be allowed to do whatever he wanted for one year,”

“but once the year was over, he’d have to succeed his father’s position in the family business.”

[Page 6]

“I was supposed to quit after one year anyway.”

Tora: Mii.

Tora: Grandma.

Mii: Tora.

Tora: Did you already sign the contract?

[Page 7]

Mii: Yep, we just stamped the seal.

Tora: ...I see. // Too bad.

Tora: This place will disappear, huh...

Gran: It snowed the first time you two came, didn’t it?

Tora: Yeah. // And Ookami carried me. [? Actually not sure what he’s saying.]

Tora: Your place was the only light in the darkness of the street. // And since then we’ve been here more times than I can count.

Gran: That’s also when Mii started writing a story based on the two of you.

Tora: Story? // What’s this about?

Mii: NOTHING, IT’S NOTHING.

[Page 8]

Tora: But... // ...this really is pretty sad.

Mii: ...Yeah.

Mii: Tora, // what’s Ookami up to lately?

Tora: I try calling him from time to time, // but he doesn’t pick up much.

Tora: I also tried to talk it over with the headmaster, // but apparently there’s been a lot of scandals involving teachers lately, so he said we should expect the worst.

Mii: Scandals... // But Ookami didn’t even do anything.

Tora: Mii...

[Page 9]

Tora: Did he... // ...say anything to you?

Mii: Huh?

Mii: N-no...

Mii: Nothing special.

“I’ve never thought of you as a student even once.”

“Do you dislike being special?”

I don’t think he actually meant anything by that.

[Page 10]

It’s just that we got to know each other before he became my teacher,

so he doesn’t think of me as his student. That’s all...

Tora: Mii,

Tora: would you like to come with me to his place? // Though I don’t know if he’ll be there or not.

Gran: Ah, // then take this with you, will you?

This will be... // ...the first time I see his place.

Student: Torisawa-san really surprised me, though...

[Page 11]

?: I know, right.

?: She didn’t show today, did she.

?: ...I wonder if Ookami is really going to quit.

?: Anyway, who was it who told the school about them in the first place?

?: Ahh, // when I went to the staff room during lunch, I saw--

Ben: It was me.

Ben: Because I saw them embracing in a park in Shibuya.

Ben: Look.

?: Whaaat, let us see!

[Page 12]

?: What... // I’m not sure I’d call this embracing?

Ben: It happened after that, but I didn’t get a picture of it.

?: ...Really...

?: Is this really the kind of thing you’d go out of your way to show the vice principal?

?: I mean, those two already know each other from way before, right?

?: I was really moved by what Ookami said the other day, to be honest. // This doesn’t seem fair to him.

Ben: ...What are you talking about? // I guess none of you know.

[Page 13]

Ben: Ookami is seriously messed up. // He’s famous, you know? Though in places completely unrelated to school.

Shi: You’re the famous one here, wouldn’t you say? Beniko the Destroyer. [LMAO stop using that nickname, it’s ridiculous.]

Shi: You should give this up already.

Shi: Oh, and by the way, I was also there in the park at the time, wasn’t I?

[Page 14]

?: ...Huh, // what’s this about...?

?: I thought Beniko-chan and Torisawa-san were friends? // She’s the one who invited us to the restaurant...

?: But then she goes and tattles to the school so easily...

?: Ugh, that’s kinda scary.

Shi: You don’t learn, do you? // You’ve been doing the same thing over and over again since middle school.

[Page 15]

Ben: Shut up!

Ben: I don’t want to be lectured by some loser who can’t even manage to win such a stupid girl’s heart.

Shi: ...

[Page 16]

Mii: Is this the place? // Ookami’s apartment?

Tora: Yup.

Tora: His family actually has a super fancy house, // unlike this place.

Tora: Watch you feet there.

Tora: Ah, // there he is.

Oo: Ah.

[Page 17]

Oo: What’s this? // Both of you together...

Tora: Uh... Are you moving already?

Oo: Nah, I just don’t like leaving useless things laying around the place.

Tora: Useless things...

Tora: But these are...

Oo: Textbooks, yeah.

[Page 18]

Mii: ...You’re really quitting.

Oo: Look, it’s seriously not your fault or anything, // so stop it with that face, okay?

Oo: I didn’t care what I did for a living.

Oo: I only picked teaching because Tora was so insistent.

Oo: I’m honestly glad I can finally quit that pain in the ass job.

Oo: Come on in.

Tora: I’ll be...

[Page 19]

Tora: ...lonely. // When you quit.

Oo: What are you on about?

Oo: I admit I was worried about you in the beginning, // but you’re doing perfectly fine as a teacher now, right?

Tora: This and that are different things.

Oo: Oh, // what’s this?

Mii: Grandma told me to take this to you.

Oo: Awesome.

Oo: Woah...

Mii: I’ll make us some tea.

Oo: I don’t have tea.

[Page 20]

He wasn’t lying. This place is impressively empty.

No fridge.

No stove...

(T) Mii: Strange, there are books in the kitchen...

...There are sticky notes on all of them.

Mii: For Kobayashi...

Ookami...

[Page 21]

“Don’t cut the honorifics when you talk to me!”

“Damn brats!!”

(Kyaa! Scaaary!)

?: Sensei, play ball with us. // Basketball outside, c’mon!

Oo: No thanks. Pain in the ass.

(Bam)

Oo: You little jerk!

(Shiit, Ookami got mad!)

[Page 22]

Oo: These idiots... // You’re seriously pissing me off.

He might say he’s happy to quit,

but he’s lying.

Ookami will quit being a teacher...

(Phone buzzing.)

Tora: Ookami, your phone.

Oo: Yeah.

[Page 23]

Oo: Withheld number... // Who could that be?

Oo: Hello?

?: …

Oo: Hellooo?

Oo: Is this a prank call or something?

Ben: Sensei. // It’s Kotani.

Ben: Sorry to be calling so suddenly. // I found your number through the school.

Tora: Who is it?

Ben: I’m sorry for all the trouble I’ve caused. // I’d like to speak with you one last time, if that’s okay.

Ben: Would you please come see me?

[Page 24]

Oo: …

Oo: Fine. // I’ll be right there.

Oo: I’ll be back soon.

Oo: Tora, leave some food for me, okay.

Tora: Where are you going?

Oo: I just need to settle something.

Tora: Family stuff?

Oo: Something like that.

[Page 25]

Mii: Beniko?

Mii: It’s Beniko, isn’t it?

Mii: Don’t go, Ookami. // You definitely shouldn’t go.

Mii: Let’s just stop getting involved with her.

Oo: I’m going.

[Page 26]

Oo: It’s time... // ...to put an end to this for good.

Oo: Or there’s no telling what she’ll do to you later on.

[Page 27]

Why do you have to say stuff like that?

My nose gets stuffy,

and I feel like crying.

Oo: Heyy. // I’m here.

[Page 28]

Oo: Kotani.

Oo: You’re here, right?

Ben: Sensei.

Ben: You really came.

Ben: Everyone’s surprisingly sad about you quitting, you know?

Ben: Isn’t that great? // They feel sorry for you.

[Page 29]

Ben: Ahhh, seriously.

Ben: It’s so boring.

Ben: There are nothing but idiots everywhere.

Ben: Every day is so damn tedious.

Ben: Even Mii, // who was such a cowering mess at first,

Ben: went and got all confident all of a sudden.

[Page 30]

Oo: Sure, yeah. // I used to think that way as well.

Oo: Every day felt like a waste of time and nothing interesting ever happened.

Ben: That’s changed then, has it?

Oo: Dunno. // I wonder.

Oo: Maybe it has, a little.

Ben: Thanks to someone special?

[Page 31]

Ben: If I don’t properly label you as a perv who takes advantage of his students, // the two of you are in danger of turning into some sort of moving tale.

Ben: The vice principal is on his way right now. // I left him an anonymous message.

Ben: ...op

[Page 32]

Ben: Stop it, Sensei!

Ben: No! // Someone, help!

Ben: Noo!!

Vice p: Someone’s yelling.

?: Let’s hurry.

Ben: Why are you so calm? // This won’t just end your teaching career, this will actually ruin your life.

[Page 33]

Ben: You should start thinking up an explanation for Mii as well, don’t you think?

Oo: Tora, // did you get all that? [On camera.]

[Page 34]

Tora: Perfectly.

Oo: You see, // I’m not stupid enough to come see a brat like you without a plan.

Tora: Kotani-san, // we’ll be keeping this as proof, so...

Tora: Maybe start behaving?

[Page 35]

Oo: So the vice principal’s coming, is he? // What will you do?

Oo: We’ll be going home now.

Ben: W-why don’t you just show it to them!

Ben: Won’t this prove your innocence? // They’ll know I was lying all along.

Oo: I have no need to prove my innocence with something like this. // I’m not YOU.

Tora: You should hurry on out of here.

[Page 36]

Vice p: What? // There’s no one here!

?: It was probably a prank call, vice principal.

Oo: Tora, hand me my phone.

Tora. Sure. // The footage turned out really clear, huh.

Tora: AH-- // AHH!

Tora: What are you doing to the evidence!!

Oo: Just having that sort of thing on my phone gives me the creeps.

[Page 37]

Oo: Besides, I’m pretty sure Kotani will keep in line for a while.

Tora: Maybe so, but... // Are you really sure about quitting?

Oo: Yeah.

Oo: But hey, if something happens to her again... // I’m counting on you, Tora.

Tora: ...Got it.

[Page 38]

Mii: Did you come through the school gate? // I looked all over for you!

Mii: Did it go okay?

Oo: I thought we told you to wait in the apartment.

Tora: It went just fine.

Mii: Really? // Thank god...

Mii: I was worried she might be scheming something again...

Oo: Any scheme a brat like that could come up with would be nothing but a sad attempt.

Oo: You’d better pull yourself together as well, you hear?

[Page 39]

Mii: ...Yeah. // I’ll do my best.

Oo: Good.

I don’t like this.

It feels like some sort of parting speech.

Oo: I heard... // ...your grandmother sold the restaurantto my father?

Mii: Ah.

Mii: Yeah. // But...

Mii: It’s not your father’s fault.

[Page 40]

Mii: So,

Mii: I don’t think there should be any need for you to quit teaching...

Oo: I’m sorry.

Oo: I couldn’t protect it. [The shop. Possibly “you”? Ambiguous.]

I met them...

...in the middle of winter.

[Page 41]

They came practically every evening.

Their names were...

Tora and Ookami.

[Page 42]

But...

...they’ll never pass through that noren again. [A noren is the cloth hanging in front of the entrance.]

Cover. Insignificant text.

[Page 2]

I’ve never thought of you as a student even once.

[Page 3]

Oo: Let’s go.

Oo: Don’t space out. // Hey!

Huh?

Mii: W- // wait.

What?

My thoughts are a mess...

Ben: …

[Page 4]

Ben: Are you just going to walk down the path to your ruin of your own accord, then?

Ben: If you walk away right now, you’re not going to be a teacher for much longer, you know?

Ben: I’m not making empty threats, okay?

Ben: Mii.

Ben: You get it right? // What this means?

My feet are stuck to the floor.

I can’t move.

[Page 5]

Oo: Torisawa.

Oo: Move your legs. // Just take one step.

[Page 6]

Oo: That’s it.

Oo: Well done.

Ookami.

Ookami...

[Page 7]

I was sure we’d never speak again.

Oo: Honestly, are you actually an idiot or what? // Listen up, you don’t make DEALS with terrorists.

Oo: They’ll just keep adding to their demands.

[Page 8]

Mii: B-but, // what are we going to do? She said they weren’t empty threats!

Oo: As if I’ll just go be ruined!

Oo: Stop worrying over nothing.

Oo: More importantly, // never try to handle everything on you own like that again. Okay?

Mii: ...But, // I’m accused of getting special treatment, you know?

[Page 9]

Oo: And what’s wrong with that?

Oo: Do you dislike being special?

Mii: Wh- // what?

Huh?

Special?

What does he mean by that?

Oo: So I guess that girl’s why you’ve been avoiding us, huh.

[Page 10]

Oo: And you telling us not to come to the restaurant anymore... // That also because of her?

Mii: Y-

Mii: Yeah.

Oo: … // Pisses me off.

Mii: !!

Oo: Do you realize how worried I’ve been?! // You idiot!

Mii: Huh?! // S-sorr--

Oo: Going around putting on acts and hiding shit like this!

[Page 11]

Mii: I’m sorry...

Mii: I was scared... // When I thought something bad might happen to you two, I...

Oo: Yeah, okay, fine.

Seriously?

Why?

No.

I can’t ask him why.

But...

He understood.

He understood me.

That’s more than enough.

[Page 12]

I wonder why...

...I feel so happy I could die?

Shi: Huh? // For real?

Shi: Lunch is over! // Where has Mii and the lunch box got to?

Yay: I wonder if something happened...

Shi: Hey, your stomach’s making some incredible sounds.

Yay: Hm? // I’m fine.

Shi: Seriously, where is Mii...

Shi: Ah.

[Page 13]

Ben: I’d like to talk with Kyoutou-sensei, please.

Shi: ...That girl.

Ben: It’s about Ookami-sensei.

Yay: What’s going on?

Shi: ...This is bad. // She looks up to no good.

[Page 14]

Teacher: Hm? // Ookami-sensei?

Other teacher: Sengoku-sensei, here’s a souvenir from my onsen trip.

Tora: Uh. // Oh, thanks.

Tora: Ah.

Tora: ...That girl.

Ben: Teachers...

Ben: ...are you aware?

[Page 15]

Ben: Ookami-sensei... // ...is dating one of the girls in his class.

Ben: Her name is Torisawa Mii.

[Page 16]

Ben: I have proof. // This is a picture of them embracing in a park in Shibuya.

Ben: I don’t know if they live in the neighbourhood or what, but they always meet up there in secret.

Tora: Hang on a sec, // what on earth are you saying?

Tora: There’s no way the two of them are dating.

Ben: I guess you never knew, Tora-sensei. // Poor thing.

[Page 17]

Ben: Why don’t you ask him yourself? // I just heard him shamelessly confess only a little moment ago.

Ben: He said he’d never thought of her as a student even once.

Shi: Mii.

Mii: Ahh!

Mii: I’m sorry, you two.

Mii: Something came up, // so I didn’t get to you during lunch.

Shi: I knew it. // Beniko, right?

[Page 18]

Mii: Why... // ...do you...

?: Hey, everyone!

?: You’ll never believe this!

?: I j-just... // ...got back from turning in the class journal, and the teachers are freaking out,

?: because apparently Ookami-sensei is dating Torisawa-san!

[Page 19]

?: What?!

?: Are you serious?! // No freaking way!

?: Isn’t that a crime?

?: Way to go, Torisawa!

Mii: It’s not true. // We’re not dating.

?: Hey, // how’d you manage it? Teach me.

Shi: Oy, // she said it isn’t true.

?: Shishio, don’t let her fool you.

Oo: Be quiet.

[Page 20]

Oo: Class is starting. // Return to your seats.

?: Laying hands on a student, though... // That’s so low.

[Page 21]

?: Won’t you get arrested or something?

?: I can’t believe you’re just walking in here acting like nothing.

?: Sensei... // Do you really think of her differently than the rest of us?

Oo: I don’t.

Oo: ...is // what I should be saying, but...

[Page 22]

Oo: ...I guess I do.

Oo: Sorry. // Seems I can’t lie about that.

Oo: And one last truth for future reference: // Torisawa has no blame in this.

[Page 23]

Oo: She disliked getting special treatment so much, // she even closed the family restaurant.

Oo: She never did anything to make herself a target. [I think he means of his special treatment?]

Teacher: Ookami-sensei. // If you would please come with me to the principal’s office.

Oo: Yes.

[Page 24]

Oo: Well. // It didn’t last very long, but I suppose being a teacher wasn’t all bad.

Ookami is leaving.

Ookami is...

Mii: W-

Mii: wait.

[Page 25]

Mii: This isn’t right. // Wait.

Mii: Ookami!

Oo: It’s fine.

Oo: I was supposed to quit after one year anyway.

[Page 26]

?: ...Seriously? // Ookami is quitting?

?: I guess so...?

?: But hey, // just now...

[Page 27]

?: ...that was totally a confession, wasn’t it.

?: He’s quitting in order to protect Torisawa-san, isn’t he?

?: Ah.

?: Beniko-chan.

[Page 28]

Ben: Thank god, right? // Ookami-sensei’s quitting, isn’t he?

Ben: It’s totally gross that he’s been seeing a student, right?

?: I guess it would’ve become a problem someday.

?: Yeah.

I have...

...kept quiet until now.

Ben: You really never do know what that type of guy does in the shadows.

Ben: He acts like a good guy, and then--

Mii: Beniko.

[Page 29]

I won’t run away anymore.

Mii: How long are you going to stay in that world of lies?

?: Lies?

Ben: What are you saying, Mii? // Just because you two got found out...

Mii: I don’t care what you say about me.

[Page 30]

Mii: But I won’t let you insult Ookami.

Goodbye, weak self.

Ben: Did you guys hear that?

Ben: She basically just admitted the whole thing.

Mii: You can stay there for as long as you like for all I care. // By yourself.

[Page 31]

Mii: Buried in lies, // and forever alone.

Mii: It’s none of my business anymore.

Ben: She’s being really mean to me. Aha... // I guess she’s taking out her frustration on me.

Ben: What do you mean by lies? // Mii...

[Page 32]

Ben: Hey, are you listening?

Ben: Hey. // Mii.

Ben: Hellooo?

?: W- // wow. Torisawa-san...

?: She was like a totally different person.

[Page 33]

Ben: Geez. // Acting all tough.

Ben: It’s because it’s all true that she couldn’t say anything, you know.

?: ...I... // …don’t think Ookami is that kind of person.

?: Same here.

?: Ahhh. // Lucky Torisawa-san.

?: He said all loud and clear that she’s special to him.

?: Yeah yeah!

?: ...When I think about it, // I’m kinda jealous.

[Page 34]

Ookami.

“I was supposed to quit after one year anyway.”
What did he mean by that...?

He always planned on teaching only a year...?

Tora: Mii.

[Page 35]

Mii: Tora.

Mii: Where’s Ookami?

Tora: Principal’s office.

Mii: It’s all my fault. // It’s all because I...

Tora: Calm down, it’s not your fault at all.

Tora: This is that Kotani girl’s doing, isn’t it.

Tora: I’m sorry, I never noticed.

Mii: N- // no, that’s okay.

[Page 36]

Mii: Tora, // Ookami said he’d always planned on quitting after a year.

Mii: Did you know that?

Tora: ...Huh?

Tora: Hang on, // did he really say that?

Mii: He... // He did.

[Page 37]

Tora: So that promise still counts.

Mii: What do you...?

Tora: You know Ookami comes from a wealthy family, right?

Mii: Yeah.

[Page 38]

Tora: His father made him a deal over a certain matter.

Tora: He’d be allowed to do whatever he wanted for one year,

Tora: but once the year was over, // he’d have to succeed his father’s position in the family business.

Tora: But...

[Page 39]

Tora: He hasn’t mentioned it in a long time, // so I figured he’d got out of it.

Tora: When he told me, he laughed and called it idiotic, so...

Mii: What was that... // …”certain matter”?

I have a bad feeling.

[Page 40]

Tora: I tried asking him, // but he wouldn’t answer.

Tora: But I’m pretty sure I know, anyway.

(Flashback to Mii’s grandmother talking about a company buying up property and turning the street into some sort of food place, I’m too lazy to word it right.)

Ookami.

Was that it?

[Page 41]

(Principal talking about Ookami’s punishment, telling him he should assume he’ll end up losing his job. Again, too lazy to formulate well.)

[Page 42]

Ookami: Yes.

Did you...

...protect Himawari?

(Note on the door that the restaurant is closed)

Tora: Ookami...

[Page 3]

Tora: I’ll... // ...ask Mii what’s going on.

Oo: Don’t bother.

Tora: But what if it really is our fault?

Oo: Even if it is, // what could we do about it?

Oo: We’re only customers.

[Page 4]

Oo: The owner’s an old woman, // and the shop is worn down.

Oo: For it to disappear is just an instance of natural selection.

Tora: ...Is that really what you think?

Tora: I’m going home.

Tora: You’re a jerk, Ookami.

[Page 5]

Shi: Hey...

Shi: You okay?

Mii: ...Yeah.

Shi: Want to eat something? // It’s 4 o’clock already.

Flashback: It’s okay to cry.

Flash: You’re just a highschool girl, right?

[Page 6]

I cried.

A lot.

And in front of this guy.

Shi: Ah, this is good.

Mii: Yeah. I think this taste is mustard and balsamic vinegar...

Shi: Ohh...

Shi: That’s impressive. Can you tell what the ingredients are from just a taste?

Mii: Oh, I’m sorry. // It’s just a habit!

Shi: Why are you apologizing?

[Page 7]

Mii: We’re in the middle of eating, // and yet I’m analyzing the ingredients and stuff...

Shi: I don’t really mind? // Isn’t this just a part of your personality? It makes you interesting.

Flashback: Personality.

Flash: It’s that thing called personality.

Flash: Everyone’s lacking in some aspects.

Flash: We all live trying to compensate for our short-comings, right?

Shi: What’s wrong?

Mii: Oh, nothing.

[Page 8]

Shi: It’s still pretty early. // Want to watch a movie or something?

Mii: Ah, I’m not really good with movies...

Shi: Why? You don’t like them?

Mii: Oh, it’s not that I don’t like movies, // I just can’t handle movie theaters.

Mii: I mean, // just dark, enclosed spaces in general...

Shi: Huh... // So you’re claustrophobic?

Mii: I had a bit of a panic attack, // once when I got shut in the science prep room at school for a few hours...

[Page 9]

Shi: Woah, that sounds really bad...

Mii: Yeah, but Ookami was there with me, so.

Shi: Ookami...

Mii: We kinda got tricked into getting trapped there,

Mii: but it all worked itself out, so I don’t really mind anymore.

I gripped his hand so hard,

there were marks left from my nails afterwards that looked really painful.

[Page 10]

Sfx: gasp

Why am I thinking about Ookami again?!

Mii: Ah, the food’s getting cold. Let’s eat!

Mii: Thanks for everything today.

Shi: No problem.

Mii: I had a lot of fun. // I feel like I’ve experienced youth!

Shi: That’s great.

[Page 11]

Shi: Hey, // say.

Shi: Are you in love with Ookami?

Mii: What?

Mii: With Ookami? // Me?

Shi: I just got a feeling you might be. // So?

[Page 12]

Mii: No way! // There’s no way I’d like such a weirdo.

Shi: I see. // Then make sure you consider me seriously.

Mii: Consider you?

Shi: Like going out on dates like this,

Shi: eating out together, stuff like that.

Shi: Basically,

Shi: let’s go out for real?

[Page 13]

Let’s go out for real?

Th...that was unexpected.

I’ve never been asked out before...

After having lost so much all at once...

[Page 14]

...those words filled me with a warm feeling. (T/N: lol awkward translation, can’t think of anything better, sorry.)

(Mii and her gran are at a public bathhouse and people are asking about Himawari closing down. Mii says she’s leaving first.)

[Page 15]

Sfx: slide

Oo: The restaurant...

[Page 16]

Oo: You closed it?

Mii: ...Y- // yes.

Oo: Why?

Oo: Because of what happened that day?

[Page 17]

Mii: No, it’s not because of that.

Mii: ...Bye.

Oo: Torisawa.

Oo: Is someone... // ...threatening you?

[Page 18]

Oo: Tell me!

Oo: Something is really off about this.

Oo: Tell me, and I’ll take care of it for you.

Flashback: You get it, right?

Flash: Mii...

Flash: What you’re doing...

[Page 19]

Flash: ...is making things difficult for them.

Mii: I’m not hiding anything?

Mii: Nothing is wrong. // Sensei.

[Page 20]

Hey, Ookami...

It feels like...

...I’m stuck in a tiny, dark room right now...

...and it’s really hard.

[Page 21]

But I can’t reach for your hand this time.

Shi: Oh, // you showed up.

Mii: I always show up. // That’s really my line.

Shi: Right, I guess I haven’t been to school in a while.

[Page 22]

Mii: ...Thank you, // for yesterday.

Shi: You’re not wearing your hair in your usual bun today.

Mii: Nope. I’m trying to mix it up a little.

Shi: Image change? You look nice.

Mii: I get the feeling I need to start changing a little bit at a time, so.

Shi: Oh? // Sounds like a good trend.

Shi: Did you give what I said yesterday some thought while you were at it?

Mii: What you sai... // Oh...

Mii: N-not yet.

Shi: Aw, you’re blushing. // Cuuute.

Mii: S-shut up!

[Page 23]

?: Beniko-chan, // Torisawa-san’s looking pretty happy, isn’t she...

?: She’s with Shishio-kun...

Ben: She is, isn’t she? // Heh...

Ben: That’s no good. // I need to discipline her better...

[Page 24]

?: Discipline? // Did she just say discipline?

?: Are we talking about a dog...?

?: Beniko’s kind of weird, isn’t she?

?: Yeah. I mean, what class is she in, anyway?

?: She just suddenly came and started hanging out in our class.

?: Yeah.

?: She and Torisawa-san are friends, right? // She was the one who told us about the gathering at Torisawa-san’s restaurant and stuff...

?: Ah. // Good morning...

[Page 25]

Oo: ...What you were just saying... // Could you explain?

(Everyone’s all YAY LUNCH.)

Shi: Mii, // did you bring lunch today?

Mii: Yeah.

Shi: You brought some for me too, right?

[Page 26]

Mii: Of course I didn’t. You’re so shameless.

Shi: Whaaat?

Shi: No way. // I’m so hungry I could die.

Mii: …

Shi (in the background): Ahhh I’m going to dieee...

Mii: ...I’m eating lunch with Yayoi-chan on the roof today. // I brought enough food for about three people.

Mii: I guess you could have some.

Shi: Yay! // I was hoping you’d say that.

Shi: Imma head on up to the roof, then.

(Mii: I’m weak to words like, // “I’m starving” and “I’m so hungry I could die”... )

Mii: Ah. // Guess I’ll stop by the bathroom.

Mii: Can’t exactly bring the lunch box into the stall with me... // Hmm.

[Page 27]

Mii: I’ll just leave it here.

(M: I hope it doesn’t fall down... )

Shi: Hey. Glasses-chan.

Yay: Ah, // what was your name again... Lion...

Shi: It’s Shishio.

Yay: Oh, right.

[Page 28]

Huh?

The lunch box is gone.

Mii: Huh?

Mii: What?

Sfx: crash

[Page 29]

Ben: Mii, // I’m sooo sorry.

Ben: I dropped your lunch box.

Mii: Why would you... // That’s so mean...

Ben: Leaving it in the bathroom is unhygienic, you know?

Ben: I heard you shut down the restaurant?

Ben: You must be happy to suddenly have so much free time.

[Page 30]

Mii: Are you... // ...still not satisfied?

Ben: What do you mean?

Ben: Anyway, aren’t you glad you listened to me?

Ben: The other girls won’t be jealous of you anymore, // because of you relationship with those two.

Ben: And now? // Is it Shishio-kun next?

[Page 31]

Ben: You’re so lucky, aren’t you, MIi. // People are practically lining up for the chance to protect you.

Ben: Won’t you tell me your secret?

Ben: You’d better give him up right away. // Shishio-kun’s pretty popular, after all.

Ben: You’ll get isolated again.

[Page 32]

Ben: I’m not saying anything that isn’t true, right?

Ben: This way those two teachers... // ...are still able to stay here and teach.

Ben: Why aren’t you saying anything? // Come on, speak up.

Mii: Beniko.

[Page 33]

Mii: I heard you’ve been going after people who look happy and ruining their lives ever since middle school.

Mii: Did I really look so happy to you?

Mii: ...I used to like Tora.

Mii: But I never had a chance with him, // so I felt really sorry for myself.

[Page 34]

Mii: But now those two have stopped coming, // and the restaurant closed down,

Mii: and I’ve realized how happy I actually was.

Mii: Your plan was a great success, Beniko. // If not for all this, I would never have realized how happy I’ve been.

[Page 35]

Mii: Please,

Mii: do keep it up for as long as you like.

Ben: Hm?

Ben: What are you pretending to be fine for?

Ben: You actually feel like crying, don’t you? // Are you going to run to Shishio-kun in tears after this?

Ben: Hey. // Wait.

[Page 36]

Ben: I’m not done talking!

[Page 37]

///

[Page 38]

Oo: I see.

Oo: So that’s how it is.

Mii: W- // why...

Oo: Are you stupid? // After you made such a face yesterday...

[Page 39]

Oo: You’re pretty impressive. // What was your name again?

Ben: Yesterday...?

Ben: Heh... // So you really have been meeting up in secret.

Ben: That would be a pretty big deal if it got out.

[Page 40]

Oo: Then how about you tell people?

Ben: I’m not just making empty threats, you know.

Ben: I have a picture of you from that time in the park and everything.

Oo: Then show it around.

Mii: Wait, // Oo...

Mii: Sensei.

[Page 41]

Mii: Stop it already. // What do you think I’ve been trying so hard for...

Mii: Sense--

Oo: Stop calling me “sensei”,

Oo: you idiot!

[Page 42]

Oo: You’re pissing me off ten times more than this other girl.

[Page 43]

Oo: I’ve never thought of you as a student even once.

[CH17 END]

Thoughts: Ahhh Beniko is so annoyinnnng go awayyyy. But yay, Ookami stepping it up! And Mii is continually awesome, LET’S ALL APPRECIATE MII’S CHARACTER. She has so much more in her head than just romance, it’s SO REFRESHING.

(Mii tells her readers that she’s putting her “Tora to Ookami” story on hiatus, and they whine about it. She heads down into the restaurant, and her grandmother tells her that because of various kinds of damage (something about power failure and the fridge breaking), she won’t open shop today. Also, there’s something she’s been thinking about lately...

Mii arrives at school, classmates complain about last night. Kawada asks if Mii is okay, Beniko appears.)

[Page 8]

?: Ah, Beniko-chan, good morning.

Ben: Good morning!

Ben: Yesterday was pretty shocking, huh... // I never thought it’d turn out like that.

?: Yeah, // I know right.

Ben: Did the organizer herself apologize to you yet?

?: Not at all. She’s just acting like nothing happened.

[Page 9]

Ben: Geez, Mii-chan. // You shouldn’t be like that.

Ben: What does that say about you as a person?

Ben: Go on and apologize.

Mii: I’m... // ...sorry about yesterday.

[Page 10]

Mii: But... // Beniko.

Mii: I won’t apologize to YOU.

?: What’s that supposed to mean? // Why not?

?: How mean.

?: Beniko-chan, do you know why?

Kaw: Hey, // Torisawa.

Kaw: What’s up with that girl? // She’s not in our class, is she?

[Page 11]

Kaw: Ah.

[Page 12]

Flashback: The teachers too,

please don’t come here anymore.

It’s hard on me.

For the sake of this restaurant as well...

Please don’t come anymore.

[Page 13]

Flashback: If the others think we’re too close,

I get ignored in school.

Kaw: Huh? // Hey, what’s going on?

[Page 14]

Yay: It’s unusual of you not to bring your own lunch, Mii.

Mii: Yeah. Our fridge broke, see.

Yay: Huh? // Isn’t that bad for the shop?

Yay: … // I heard a rumour that you had a whole bunch of people over yesterday...

Yay: Is it because of that?

Mii: Yeah,

Mii: but it’s also because everything in the shop is really old and worn-out.

Yay: ...Mii-chan.

[Page 15]

Yay: Are you okay? // If something’s wrong, tell me, okay?

I can’t get Yayoi-chan involved.

Mii: Do I really look that down?

Mii: I’m fine, I’m fine!

Mii: I guess having only bread for lunch doesn’t provide enough energy.

Yay: Ah, here, have some of my lunch too.

Mii: Yay, thanks. // Yum!

[Page 16]

Yay: It’s been awhile since I ate at your restaurant.

Yay: Is it okay if I come today?

Yay: Oh, that’s right. // Your fridge broke...

Yay: Are you closed until it’s fixed?

Mii: ...

[Page 17]

Mii: The restaurant...

Mii: Himawari...

Mii: ...is closing down.

Yay: Huh... // Closing down?

Mii: Yeah.

Mii: My grandmother told me this morning.

Mii: It seems her health isn’t too good lately.

[Page 18]

Flashback:

Gran: Because I’ve had you help out at the shop since you were in middle school, // you were never able to live a normal student life.

Gran: When I saw the other girls from your class yesterday,

Gran: I noticed how lively and unreserved they were,

Gran: and I realized that it’s my fault that you’re so unlike them.

Gran: This whole shopping street is gradually dying away anyway.

[Page 19]

Gran: I think this is a good time... // …to close down.

Yay: ...I see. // So the restaurant won’t be there anymore.

Yay: That’s too bad...

Mii: Yeah.

[Page 20]

Mii: But I mean, if you think about it, // this means I don’t have to go straight home after school every day anymore,

Mii: and I can spend my time as I please.

Mii: Looking at it that way, // I quite look forward to it.

Shi: What do you look forward to?

Mii: Ah.

Mii: Shishio.

[Page 21]

Shi: Come with me for a sec. // I’ve got some new information.

Mii: What new information? // By the way, it’s been awhile since you last came to school, huh.

Shi: Yeah.

Shi: I’ve been asking around a little.

Shi: About Kotani Beniko.

Shi: She’s messed up.

[Page 22]

Shi: She’s called “Beniko the Destroyer”. // Seems she’s pretty famous in my neighbourhood.

Shi: If she comes across someone who seems happy, // she locks onto them, making them her prey.

Shi: She goes after them until she’s taken everything from them, // and they’re left worn-out and broken.

[Page 23]

Mii: ...I see.

Mii: So she’s famous...

Shi: So? // What do you want to do?

Shi: Can I take care of her for you?

Shi: Should I reveal her true nature and drive her away?

[Page 24]

Mii: No, no.

Mii: You don’t have to do anything.

Shi: Huh?!

Shi: Nothing at all?

Mii: Yeah.

Shi: Are you an idiot?

Shi: She’s made you go through a bunch of shit, right?

Shi: It’ll just keep going on if you leave it like this.

Mii: As long as... // ...Tora and Ookami are left out of it, I don’t care.

[Page 25]

Shi: …

Shi: ...Don’t you... // ...care what happens to yourself?

Mii: Me? // I’ll be fine!

Mii: I’ve always had few friends, anyway.

Mii: But now Yayoi-chan, // and Kawada are both looking out for me...

Mii: And so are you. // I’m really grateful.

[Page 26]

Mii: But it’s enough now. // Thank you.

Mii: The restaurant is closing down as well. // I’ll take this chance to retrieve my adolescence!

Shi: …

Shii: Adolescence...

Shi: Haa...

Shi: Since you’re always only talking with your grandma, // you sound like an old woman, you know.

Shi: Alright!

Shi: Let’s go on a date.

[Page 27]

Mii: D- // date?

Shi: You’re retrieving your adolescence, right? // There must be a mountain of things you’ve never done before.

Shi: Let’s go through ‘em one at a time.

Shi: C’mon, raise your fist.

Mii: Ah.

Flashback: Shi: Wheey.

Mii: W- // WHEEY!

Shi: Ouch!!

[Page 28]

?: Hey, // check it out.

?: Torisawa-san... // ...and Shishio-kun, isn’t it.

?: Cutting class and everything, where d’you think they’re going?

Mii: Huuuh? // Karaoke? But I’ve never done it before!

Shi: Nevermind that, just sing.

[Page 29]

Mii: U-uhm, I don’t watch much TV either, so I don’t know many songs... // Just a few anime ones.

Shi: That’s fine, just do a bunch of anime songs, then.

(She sings some random song)

Shi: Why are you standing all stiffly...

Mii: I can’t sing if I’m sitting down.

Mii: Ah, I know this one too. It’s from an anime I watched as a kid.

Shi: ‘Kay, then pick that one next.

Mii: Aren’t you going to sing?

Shi: Nah.

Mii: Why? Are you tone deaf or something?

Shi: ...

[Page 30]

Mii: Oh? // Bull’s eye?

Shi: Singing is the only thing I just can’t do.

Mii: Heh... // So even you have a weak point, huh.

Mii: Poor thing.

Sfx: grin grin

Shi: Don’t look so happy.

Mii: Ah! // I want to sing this too. // This was in our music textbook, wasn’t it?

Mii: I know this one as well. // Karaoke is so much fun!

Mii: So this is the kind of place people stop by after school... // I’ve always had to hurry back home, so I didn’t know.

[Page 31]

Shi: The girls I know... // If there’s something they want, they grab it,

Shi: if something bad happens, they complain about it,  // and they all know how to let go and relax.

Shi: You should look for ways to do that, too.

Mii: … // Yeah.

Shi: I’ll tag along anytime, you know. // Unless you tell me to sing, that is.

Mii: Ah, // thanks.

This guy...

[Page 32]

...is a good person. // Though I didn’t like him much at first glance because he seemed so showy...

Shi: Okay! // Next up...

Shi: A friend of mine’s working part time at a shop near here.

?: Welco... // Ah. // Shishio.

?: How rare to see you wearing your uniform.

Shi: Hey.

?: Who’s this? Girlfriend? Hello!

Mii: I’m not! // But h-hello.

[Page 33]

Shi: This is Mii. // Mayu, do you have time right now?

Mayu: Sure. The manager’s not here today.

Shi: Can you help dress her up cutely?

Mii: What?!

Mii: Huh? Why?!

Mayu: Sure.

Mii: No, I’m fine, really.

Shi: You’re an adolescent, right? // You can’t only wear aprons.

[Page 34]

This is becoming kind of strange...

Mayu: Hmm. You’ve got a pretty plain image.

Mayu: What sort of clothes do you normally wear?

Mii: Trous-... // P-pants.

Mayu: Then let’s go for a skirt now. // A new one came in just today.

Mii: O- // okay.

Mii: ...This is cute.

Mayu: Right? // I’m thinking about buying it myself.

Mayu: Let’s go with this for the top.

[Page 35]

Mii: ...I kind of... // ...feel like I’m in a drama.

Mayu: Hmm? // Because you’re having fun?

Going to karaoke after school...

Trying on clothes at a trendy store...

Mayu: Ah, // let’s try something different with your hair as well.

Mii: Y- // yes.

It’s like I’m really just a normal high school girl.

Mayu: Shishio. // Look, look. What do you think?

Shi: Ohh.

[Page 36]

Mayu: Isn’t she cute?

Shi: Ohh? // You look totally different.

Shi: Super cute.

Mii: R- // really...?

Huh...?

[Page 37]

This is the kind of after school activity I’ve been dreaming about, but...

...the inside of my head...

...is full of vegetables and stuff I’ve prepared for cooking.

Mii: It’s- // it’s the first time I’m wearing clothes like these. // It feels weird.

Mayu: Hm? It looks great on you, though.

Mii: Ah, // it’s already this late.

Mii: I have to hurry to the restaurant and put up the noren. [*(short) sign curtain hung at shop entrance]

Mii: ...No. // Huh?

[Page 38]

Mii: That’s right. // The restaurant...

Mii: ...is closed.

Mii: Geez, what’s with me.

I can’t help but end up thinking about...

...that small restaurant.

Mii: …

Mii: I- // I’m going to chance, okay?

[Page 39]

And I can’t help but think about those two...

...even though they’ll probably never come again.

Mii: ...Wha-

[Page 40]

Shi: It’s okay to cry.

Shi: You’re just a high school girl, right?

[Page 41]

Yeah.

Just a 17-year-old...

[Page 42]

...who’s lost everything.

[END]

BENIKO IS INSANE and that is so annoying, gah. GO AWAY. GO AWAYYYY. I really like Mii, though. Mii is great <3

Translation script/summary hybrid thingy thing.

Code:

(T) - thoughts

(text) - summary

New paragraph = new frame

Also, I shorten long names when indicating who’s speaking (i.e. Oo = Ookami)

[text] - comment from me (because I can’t help myself)

Cover.

[Page 2]

Ben: Include me...

Ben: ...in your little group?

Ben: Everyone wants to get closer with them, but they don’t think they have a chance, because of you.

[Page 3]

Ben: Don’t you think the way you’re acting is putting them in a tough spot?

[Page 4]

I don’t want to agree with what Beniko says.

But...

It is true that Tora got suspended because I got lost on the field trip... [Uh, no, it’s because your classmates are brats and Tora has a bad temper.]

And that picture from the park...

If it gets spread around school,

Ookami will be in trouble [because of me] as well.

Ben: You think you’re special, right?

[Page 5]

It felt as though...

...she had seen right through me.

I met Tora and Ookami that one winter day...

They turned out to be my teachers...

They’d wink and smile at me in school... [Err, probably just Tora.]

And after school, I’d meet them when they came to the restaurant...

[Page 6]

I really did feel special.

It’s all because of me.

What Beniko said was cruel, but true.

It’s all because I got caught up in happiness and forgot to think.

What am I going to do...

Tora: Ookami, wait up.

Tora: What are you so angry about? Does what Kotani-san said earlier really bug you that much?

(Sfx: Freeze)

[Page 7]

Tora: Shishio, was it? Are you worried over whether Mii is really dating him or not?

Oo: Are you stupid? D’you really think I’d worry over something like that?

Oo: Get this, okay? What annoys me isn’t stupid things like that. But you know that I hate empty-headed high school girls to death, right? [EXCUSE ME, WHAT ABOUT EMPTY-HEADED HIGH SCHOOL BOYS.]

Tora: Yeah.

Oo: I thought she... I thought Torisawa-san was a little bit different.

Tora: Why?

Oo: Because...

[Page 8]

Oo: People who can cook well are never completely empty-headed.

Oo: But I was proven wrong today. She’s just another high school girl.

Oo: Acting all frivolous with that kind of guy...

Oo: See you later. I’m stopping by my family’s house today.

Tora: ...Uhh...

Tora: ...He’s making no sense,  and he doesn’t even notice...

[Page 9]

Tora: I guess it’s hopeless if the person himself isn’t aware... [I assume he’s referring to being aware of feelings, meaning Tora TOTALLY SEES RIGHT THROUGH YOU OOKAMI.]

(Ookami heads to his family home, where he’s greeted by a... housekeeper? Probably. She calls him “young master”. He’s just there to get a book, and she pesters him about how skinny he is.)

[Page 10]

(Ookami finds the book, which he wants to lend a student. The housekeeper fangirls over his “teacher-face” and ignores everything he says. Man comes in and calls Ookami by his first name, “Ken.”)

[Page 11]

ODad: You’re home?

HK: M-master, you’re home early.

ODad: How’s teaching?

ODad: A waste of time, I assume?

[Page 12]

ODad: It’s only a simple public school, after all.

Oo: ...I’m leaving.

HK: Master, even though the young master finally came home and everything...

ODad: Ken.

ODad: Ken, wait.

ODad: I’m sure you remember...

[Page 13]

ODad: Just one more year!

Oo: ...Yeah, yeah. I know.

Protecting another person is tough.

[Page 14]

You need to be strong.

(Yayoi asks Mii if she knows who Kotani is, Mii says she knows.)

[Page 15]

Yay: Seems like she’s in your classroom saying all sorts of things about you...

?: Ah, Torisawa-san is here.

?: Is today really okay?

Mii: Huh? Today? What?

?: We’re reaaaally looking forward to it!

[Page 16]

?: Tora-chan and Ookami-sensei are coming to your restaurant today, so you’ve said we can all come over, right?

What...?!

Ben: Mii, that’s what you said, wasn’t it?

Ben: Since you’ve been keeping them to yourself for so long...

(Mii asks Ben to come outside.)

[Page 17]

Mii: The restaurant has nothing to do with this, right?!

Mi: And anyway, there isn’t room for more than 20 people in it. And my grandmother is old...

Mii: Please stop this, I’m begging you.

Ben: Isn’t this perfect for you? If your grandmother gets sick and the restaurant gets shut down...

Ben: ...Tora and Ookami will pity you.

[Page 18]

Tora: Mii?

Mii: T-Tora.

Help me.

Ben: Tora-sensei, hello again.

Ben: Are you good for after school?

Tora: Yeah. At Mii’s restaurant, right?

Tora: I’ve let Ookami know as well.

Tora: So what’s happening?

[Page 19]

Tora: Mii?

Ben: Ufufu, it’s a secret, isn’t it, Mii?

[Page 20]

I don’t care what happens at school.

But this person won’t be satisfied with destroying only that part of my life.

Tora: Then I’ll see you later.

Ben: I’ve already made all necessary preparations, you see.

Mii: ...What do you want me to do?

Ben: What I want you to do...

Ben: Mii.

[Page 21]

Ben: Think about it.

Ben: You already know, don’t you?

(People greeting Shishio.)

[Page 22]

(Shishio asking some guy if his girlfriend went to the same middle school as him (Shishio), because he wants to ask her about Kotani Beniko.)

[Page 23]

(The restaurant is full of girls, and other customers can’t come in. Gran and Mii worries.)

[Page 24]

(The girls act like brats, complains and breaks stuff.)

[Page 25]

ugghhhhh (the girls continue to act like brats, demanding juice and suggesting redecoration. More guests try to enter without finding room.)

[Page 26]

Gran: ...This is a problem... I’m glad you’ve made a lot of friends, but...

Ben: Helloo! Sorry to have kept you waiting.

Ben: Here are the main characters!

[Page 27]

Stupid army: THEY’RE HEREEE! [This is ridiculous. HAVE THESE GIRLS NO SELF-RESPECT OH MY GOD.]

Tora: Woah.

[Page 28]

Tora: Wha-? What’s going on?

Blah: You’re late, Tora-chan! Sit here.

Blah2: Ookami, you too. Quickly, quickly.

Oo: Huh? Don’t touch me, hey. What is this?

Oo: And don’t sit on the table!

Ben: Are you surprised?

Ben: You two.

Ben: Mii planned this surprise for you, you know?

Ben: Right, Mii?

[Page 29]

Tora: Mii did?

Tora: Why would you plan something like this?

Oo: In any case, if you stuff this many people into a place this small, it’ll fall apart!

Blah3: Come on, it’s already falling apart. It’s completely run down.

Blah4: But nevermind that, sensei! You know, we...

What I want you to do...

Think about it.

You already know, right?

[Page 30]

Mii: Leave.

Mii: Everyone, get out.

Mii: Leave.

Blah5: Whaaat?

Blah6: What do you mean?

[Page 31]

Blah7: YOU planned this--

Mii: LEAVE!

Blah8: I can’t believe this. What’s her problem?

Blah9: Let’s go, she’s ruined the mood.

Blah10: You’re the wooorst.

Tora: Mii.

[Page 32]

Mii: The teachers too, [sounds awkward in translation, but it’s significant that she’s referring to them as teachers. (She says “Sensei-tachi”, the plural of “sensei”.)]

Mii: please don’t come here anymore.

[Page 33]

Tora: ...Mii.

Mii: ...I’m sure you already realize, but you two are really popular.

Mii: It’s hard on me.

Mii: If the others think we’re too close, I get ignored in school.

[Page 34]

Mii: For the sake of this restaurant as well... Please don’t come anymore.

Flashback frames:

Tora: What’s today’s special?

Oo: I don’t eat green peas.

?: Hey, you’ve got rice stuck on your face again.

[Page 35]

Tora: Mii, is it just me or are you taking notes?

Mii: Y-you’re imagining things!

Mii: I’m planning out the menu!

Tora: Ookami, did you notice the state of the place?

Oo: ...Yeah, it was all messed up.

[Page 36]

Tora: Ookami.

Oo: Yeah.

Tora: Do you really think Mii planned this?

Oo: No way.

Tora: Right? [THANK YOU BOTH FOR NOTICING THE OBVIOUS.]

Oo: But that things turned out this way...

Oo: ...is probably our fault.

[Page 37]

Tora: Yeah, I think so too...

Shi: Are you serious?

[Page 38]

Girl: Geez, she was famous.

Girl: Her alias is like, Beniko the Destroyer!

(Girl tells how Beniko caused the breakup of a really happy couple.)

Shi: Hang on.

Shi: Why would she do that?

Girl: Nooo clueee. I guess seeing happy people pisses her off?

Boy: Gah, girls are scaryy.

[Page 39]

Girl: Anyway, there are countless people around who’s had their happiness wrecked by that girl.

Girl: You should be careful.

Shi: ...Destroyer...

Shi: Destroyer, huh. (He first says it in “English” (DESUTOROYAA haha), while the second time, he says it in actual Japanese.)

[Page 40]

Ben: Mii, well said.

Ben: I thought you were an idiot, but you understood pretty well what you had to do.

Gran: An idiot...

Gran: H-hey,

Gran: I thought you were a friend of my granddaughter? Why would you...

[Page 41]

Ben: We’re not friends!

Ben: If your granddaughter’s an idiot, then you as the grandmother must be senile, huh?

Ben: Bye-bye.

Ben: See you tomorrow.

[Page 42]

I called them “teachers” (“sensei”) for the first time...

...and immediately the distance between us felt extremely far.

Bikkuri's comment: I’ve decided to change the format a bit to speed things up, or I really will never finish these. A translation script/summary hybrid thingy thing. Mostly script, I’ll only summarize boring bits. Like if they talk about food, I really can’t be bothered. Anyway, slightly experimental, so bear with me, please.

Code:
(T) - thoughts
(text) - summary
New paragraph = new frame

[Page 2]

I was surprised.
Ookami’s hand on my head was so warm,

“Sorry.”
“I was wrong.”

and he acted nice...

[Page 3]

...as if he were a normal person.
(T) Mii: What do I do...

(T) Mii: I don’t dare lift my face.
(T) Oo: ...I don’t know...

(T) Oo: ...when the right time to pull back my hand is...

Shi: ...Hey.

[Page 4]

Shi: You guys done soon?
(H) Shi: It’s been like 20 minutes... [HAHAHA ARE YOU SERIOUS]

Mii: Ow!
Oo: Don’t just stand there crying forever! Are you a baby?!

Mii: That’s no reason to hit me! [Agreed. Hit him back!!]
Oo: Shut up! And wait - you’re not even crying anymore! Stop screwing around!

[Page 5]

Oo: I’m going back to school. Don’t skip class, okay?!

Shi: What’s his problem...

Shi: Doesn’t it look like he really rushed over here? He’s still wearing indoor shoes.
Shi: Wow.

I really was surprised...

[Page 6]

My heart’s pounding...

(Girls talk about how shocking it is that Shishio confessed to Mii, even though she’s so plain and blah blah. They also talk about how Mii’s always hanging around with Tora and Ookami, and that apparently they’re regulars at her grandmother’s restaurant, and Mii’s super lucky.)

[Page 7]

That witness girl with the cell phone and the picture taking (“WG” until named): Hey, Torisawa-san’s restaurant...
WG: Where is it?

(Mii’s made some dish too sweet. [OMGLOL HAS SHE FLAVOURED IT WITH LOVE?])

[Page 8]

Mii: Sorry, grandma.
Gran: When something happens to you, it shows in the taste of your food...

Gran: Well, then. Did something happen with Tora?
Mii: With Tora? Nope, nothing at all.

Gran: Then, Ookami...? Are you playing them both?
Mii: I-I’m not! What are you saying?!

Gran: I was just thinking about how you’re not updating that BL novel of yours lately, and it turns out it’s because of IRL drama...
Mii: IRL?!
Mii: Wait, you’re reading it?!

WG: Hello!

[Page 9]

Mii: W-welcome.

WG: Huh? You are open, right? [No!! Go home!]

Gran: Ah, come in, come in.
Gran: Oh, you have the same uniform as Mii. Are you a friend?

Mii: Ah, you’re right...

WG: We’re in different classes, so I guess it’s natural that you wouldn’t recognize me.

[Page 10]

Gran: Is tea fine?
WG: Yes, thank you.

WG: Hmm... So this is your restaurant, huh.

Mii: Uhm. Did you hear about this place from someone?

WG: Yep. I went by your class earlier, and they were gossiping about you.
Mii: Gossiping?

WG: Yeah. Wondering why you’re so popular and stuff.
Mii: Huh?

Mii: No, no, I’m not popular at all.

[Page 11]

WG: Even if you aren’t actually popular, that’s how it looks, you know?
WG: I mean...

WG: Tora-sensei and Ookami-sensei have been coming here since they were in university, right? Everyone thinks you’re really lucky.

Mii: ...Uhm.
Mii: Did you come here to eat, or...?

WG: I was thinking I’d like to be your friend.
WG: Can’t I?

[Page 12]

Gran: If you’re a friend of Mii’s, I’ll make you anything you want, if you want something to eat.
Mii: Grandma...

WG: Yay, lucky me! I’ll eat a lot! I’d love some potato salad.
Gran: Coming up.

...Even if she’s calling us friends all of a sudden...

I don’t know this girl at all.
Not even her name...

WG: I’m in year 2, class 1. Kotani Beniko.
Ben: You can just call me Beniko, ‘cause I’m going to call you Mii. [I’m going to call you OMINOUS PRESENCE. No, J/K. I’m going to call you Ben. Hope that’s okay. By the way, “Beniko” means “crimson child”. Fun fact.]

[Page 13]

Mii: O-okay...
Is this really how people become friends...? [No.]

Gran: I’m so relieved Mii’s finally making some friends lately. I hope you’ll get along.
Ben: I’m sure we will.
Gran: This girl’s really bad at making friends, you see. [omg granny you’re so mean why are you so mean stop being mean.]

(Some guy from the neighbourhood association comes to talk to gran about something, and she leaves Mii to be murdered by Ben.)

[Page 14]

Ben: You’re bad at making friends? Aw, you shouldn’t worry an elderly like that.

Ben: But well, I guess it’s natural that you’d be friendless.

Ben: You’re monopolizing cute guys, after all.
Ben: And in this sort of place... [a negatively loaded kind of “this sort”]

Did...

...she just say “this sort of place”...?
Mii: U-uhm...?

[Page 15]

Ben: Look. I snapped this earlier. [Here we go... Evil is approaching.]
Ben: I was totally shocked!

Ben: Whichever way you look at it, this a romantic scene between a teacher and student, right? [Uh, not really. It looks like a teacher comforting his student, I don’t think that’s really very scandalous. But okay, for the sake of the story, I’ll go along with your interpretation, Ben and Mii, and I dunno... Japan...? (I mean, can teachers not comfort their students in Japan? What?? And come on, she’s like smearing snot all over his coat, HOW IS THAT ROMANTIC.)]
Ben: I even filmed a bit!

[Page 16]

What’s going on?!
Mii: You’re wrong, that’s not what it was like!
Mii: Shishio was right there with us, you know?!

Ben: Was he? I can’t seem to recall that...
Ben: He’s not in the picture...

Mii: It’s really not like that at all. It’s just that some stuff happened, and then I ended up crying...
Ben: Yeah. And?

Mii: And...?

Ben: If I show this to people in school,
Ben: he’ll get fired, won’t he.

[Page 17]

Ben: Even if you tell them, “Some stuff happened and I cried”...
Ben: ...I wonder if they’ll buy it?

What... is wrong with this person?

Ben: Aha! Don’t make such a scary face!
Ben: I’m not showing anyone. Relax.

[Page 18]

Ben: Just include me in your little group?

Mii: Group...?

Tora: Hello! I’m starved.

[Page 19]

Oo (or Tora?): Huh? Where’s granny?

Tora: Mii?
Tora: Oh, that’s our school’s uniform, isn’t it.

Ben: I’m Kotani Beniko from year 2, class 1.

[Page 20]

Ben: Mii promised she’d introduce me to you. [Oh, puke.]
Wha-?!

Tora: Friend of yours?

Mii: ...Yeah. [OMG MII WHAT. BE HONEST.]

Ben: Can I sit with you?

Oo: No, you go sit over there.
Oo: There are plenty of free seats.

[Page 21]

Ben: Mii...

If I show this to people at school,
he’ll be fired, won’t he.

Mii: O-Ookami.
Mii: Don’t be so mean. Let her sit with you, come on. [AHHH MIIII WHYYY. No, I mean, I get that she’s like, blackmailing you, BUT AHHH WHYYYY]
Oo: [uhhhh can’t think of a good translation atm, but he’s annoyed.]

Ben: Is it true that you’ve been coming here since you were in university?

Tora: Yeah.
Tora: The first time was on a snowy day, if I remember right. I was being piggybacked by Ookami...

Ben: What! Piggybacked?! Were you sick?!
Tora: Nah, I was just hungry.

[Page 22]

Oo: This guy’s always forgetting to eat.

Ben: You really are close, just as Mii says.

Tora: Kotani-san, was it? If you’re in class 1, then we don’t teach any of your classes, huh.
Ben: That’s right. It’s too bad.

Ben: But I’ll be coming by here a lot from now on! [Please don’t.]
Ben: Right, Mii?

Mii: Y-yeah.

[Page 23]

What’s with this person?

Tora: Ahh, we have some grading to do, so we’d better head home. Thanks for the food.
Ben: Ah, then I’ll go with you halfway.

[Page 24]

Tora: Oh, right.
Tora: Mii.

Tora: Has Ookami apologized about the other day yet?

Tora: He didn’t really mean any of that, so please forgive him.
Oo: Shut up, Tora! It’s all fine already!

Mii: Yeah.

Ben: HMM? What, what? What did he say to her?
Tora: Secret!

[Page 25]

Ben: Ah, is this about THAT?
Ben: When Mii cried in the park?

Mii: H-hey!!

Oo: ...Hey, you. [Addressing Mii.]
Oo: Don’t just go blabbing all over the place. [Oh Ookami, I am deeply disappointed in you. Don’t you know Mii at all?]

Mii: I’m not!
Ben: You were like, “it’s a secret!” when you told me, right?

[Page 26]

Ben: Don’t worry. I won’t tell.

What?

What’s her motive?

[Page 27]

Shi: Whaat? She secretly took a picture? Seriously?

Mii: So you didn’t see her?
Shi: Nope, I didn’t.

Shi: But isn’t she basically threatening you?
Shi: I’ll vouch for you, so why don’t you just let her do as she likes? [Spread the picture around.]

Mii: I can’t.
Shi: Why not?

[Page 28]

Mii: Ookami will get fired.
Mii: If they see that picture, I don’t think anyone will believe us no matter what we say.

Shi: ...So what?
Shi: He’s not exactly the teacher-type, anyway.

Mii: Ookami used to be really mean. He acted like the whole world was his enemy, and trusted no one but Tora.

Mii: But after becoming a teacher, he’s really changed.

[Page 29]

Mii: So I don’t want to see him fired now.

Shi: ...You’ve got an interesting relationship...
(T) Shi: Which one is the teacher?

Shi: Well, I won’t tell anyone, but if something happens, let me know, okay?

Mii: Thank you.
I have to protect him.

[Page 30]

I have to protect Ookami.
Shi: Kotani Beniko, huh...

Shi: I feel like I’ve heard that name somewhere before...

Anyway,
Sign: Science room
I’ll tell Ookami what’s going on, at least. [Thank you, that’s a good decision.]

I don’t know what she wants, but we have to be careful.

Mii: Ookami, I have something to...

[Page 31]

Ben: Ah, Mii. [NO! GO AWAY go home go swim go to BED.]

Ben: We’re just chatting.
Ben: Tora-sensei just came as well!

No way.
Mii: Ah, I-I see...
This is horrible timing...

[Page 32]

Ben: Mii, I saw! I’m so jealous.

Mii: Huh? What?
Ben: You were just hanging out on the roof, right?

Ben: You and Shishio-kun. [Uh-oh.]

Tora: Who’s Shishio?

Ben: Oh? You don’t know?
Mii: Hey, wait.
What is she saying?

[Page 33]

Mii: Stop it. It’s not like that.

Ben: Hmm? There was this mood that made it impossible for me to interrupt, though? It made me think like, “Ah, they really must be dating...”

[Haha... Ookami’s face... So obvious...]

Mii: S-stop this already! I told you, that’s not it! Just stop!

Tora: Mii? What’s wrong?

[Page 34]

Ben: Mii... you’re scaring me. [Oh, gross.]
Ben: Why are you so angry? You told me you thought you might be starting to like him, right?

Mii: What... are you...
This person...

There’s something wrong with her. There really is.

Oo: Lunch break is over.
Oo: Get to class.

[Page 35]

Mii: W-wait.
Mii: It’s not true.

My tongue...
...won’t move properly.

Mii: She’s lying. Listen to me.

Oo: I don’t care. [Hah. YEAH RIGHT.]
Oo: You can date whomever you like.
Oo: Now get out of here.

Tora: Ookami...

Why...

[Page 36]

Why did it turn out like this...?

Ben: Then I’ll be going ahead.
Mii: Wait.

Mii: Did I do something to you?
Mii: What do you have against me?

[Page 37]

Mii: What exactly do you want? Hey!

Ben: ...up.

Ben: Shut up.

[Page 38]

Ben: Just kidding.
Ben: Mii, don’t you get it?

Ben: I don’t have anything against you. But everyone’s saying like,
Ben: even though they want to get to know those two better, you’re in the way.

Mii: In... the way?
Ben: Everyone wants to get closer with them, but they don’t think they have a chance.

[Page 39]

Ben: Because of you.

Ben: Having some pseudo romantic scene in a park and whatever...
Ben: Don’t you think the way you’re acting is putting them in a tough spot?

[Page 40]

Mii: ...What, no, I never...

Ben: You feel superior, don’t you?
Ben: You think you’re special, right?

[Page 41]

Ben: It shows all over your face.

I’m... putting them in a tough spot?

[Page 42]

What should I do...
What she’s saying...
...is starting to sound like the truth.

CHAPTER 13

So Shishio kisses Mii in the middle of class and everyone stares in shock (note Ookami’s expression especially. Commence Jealousy, Denial and Unreasonableness in 3... 2...)

Mii can’t quite process what happened at first, so she just sits frozen while Shishio tells everyone to stop staring. That doesn’t really do anything but send the whole class into frenzy. Everyone waits for Mii to respond, but before she can get herself together, Ookami throws Mii and Shishio out of class for disturbing the peace, which is REALLY UNFAIR, what the heck did Mii do? Boo, Ookami.

Mii doesn’t get why she’s being thrown out either, but she lets Shishio pull her with him. She’s gotten to the part where she realizes she’s just been kissed (against her will. Boo, Shishio), so she starts rubbing her lips furiously. Shishio talks about how fun it is to be back in school (he thinks his classmates acts like middle schoolers), but then he notices what Mii’s doing and tries to make her stop, telling her that her lips will tear. Mii gives him a death glare, and then she punches him so hard in the face that he actually FALLS DOWN HAHAHA. And then she yells, “Stop messing around! Go back to the savannah, you lion!” Ha.

She runs to the bathroom and continues to scrub her lips, while also trying to convince herself that that sort of kiss doesn’t count as a real one. She thinks Ookami was being mean as well, lumping her and Shishio together (clearly Shishio was the only one causing trouble). Yeah, Mii! Be angry!

She finds Ookami in the corridor and gets ready to yell at him, but he decides to completely ignore her, and goes off with a student who’s part of his astronomy club (this student notices the weird behaviour as well). So basically Ookami acts like a brat and I hope he stumbles into a bucket of paint or something. BOO.

Tora is in the astronomy club room when Ookami gets there, having just been in a meeting with the PTA chairman. They start talking about the mountain trip incident, and Mii stands in the doorway overhearing everything. Tora talks about how it’s natural he’d get angry when the one who got innocently involved and then got lost in the mountain was Mii, but then Ookami is all, “BLAHBLAH Mii is just like the typical high school girl who’ll go for anyone as long as they’re male. Don’t let her fool you.” (jkafnasif WTF Ookami, YOU’RE SO OBVIOUS. Also, stop that. Since when do “typical high school girls” just “go for anyone as long as they’re male”? Shut uuuup). Then they both notice Mii by the door, and she tries to pretend like nothing happened. She just says hi to Tora, and then talks about how class is starting, so she has to go.

Tora yells at Ookami once Mii is gone, but Ookami tells him he shouldn’t talk, since he doesn’t know what happened. But when Tora asks him to tell him what that was, Ookami refuses to share. Tora stares at him for a bit, and then he smiles and says that with the way Ookami’s acting, it seems like he’s jealous. (DING DING DING!) Ookami looks at Tora in surprise, but then tells him not to be stupid.

Mii mulls it all over in class later, thinking about Ookami saying she’d go for any boy who offered to take her and whatever. Shishio thinks she’s upset about the kiss still, and apologizes, saying he always starts going out with girls that way. Mii doesn’t even hear him, though. She thinks about how cold Ookami’s eyes were when he looked at her, and stands up abruptly and just walks out in the middle of class. The others whisper about her as she leaves, wondering what’s going on with her (she’s usually a model student). “It’s a Torisawa revolution.”

Shishio follows her out, but Mii tells him to go away. He says he can’t leave her alone when she’s spacing out like that, and in any case, it’s all his fault. Mii agrees, and tells him that’s why she wants him to stay away from her. Shishio starts wondering if it might have been her first kiss or something, and Mii’s just like, “That wasn’t a kiss. And anyway, I got kissed by a friend of mine’s dog a long time ago.” Shishio realizes that that means that this was the first time she kissed a human (lol), so he apologizes again. Mii coldly tells him that she doesn’t care anymore, because she’s just “one of those typical high school girls who’ll go for anyone as long as they’re male.”

Shishio actually reacts the same way I did, ha. He says that’s just rude to other high school girls, and among his female friends, there aren’t anyone like that. So he tells her to stop involving other girls, even if it really is true that she’s like that herself. Mii says she’s sorry, and Shishio seems to regret speaking so harshly, backtracking a bit. He wonders if anyone said that stuff to her, because he’s sure she isn’t actually that type of person.

Mii starts thinking again, wondering what Ookami had to go that far for, saying something like that right in front of Tora and everything. And she wonders why she just left without saying anything back.

When Ookami has another lesson with the class again, Mii and Shishio aren’t there, and the others tell him they left together. Ookami flashbacks to some cute Mii-ness, like when she cried and said she wanted to be him (so she could be close to Tora, haha), and her standing with a bowl of food, saying his name. YES TASTE THE BITTER REGRET.

Meanwhile, Mii and Shishio are eating ice cream in a park, and Mii tells Shishio about the restaurant and traditional Japanese cooking and... and ahh, gah, she rambles about food and animals and whatever, I don’t care enough to look it up. Me and Shishio both just stare in blank wonder, marvelling at her endless wisdom. Mii remembers how sceptical Ookami was the first time he ate her cooking, and then how honestly he admitted to liking it after tasting it. She thinks that he really seemed like a terrible person at first sight. Mean and difficult to understand...

Back in school, Ookami finds Yayoi and asks her where she and Mii met Shishio when they ran into him for the first time. She tells him it was in Shibuya, and he asks her where in Shibuya because Shibuya is kind of huge. Yayoi is worried, because Mii never seemed to care for Shishio much.

In the park, Shishio starts going on about how special Mii is, with her old-fashioned-ness and all, and how he really likes that about her. Mii flatly counters that he only likes the rarity of it (rather than her for herself), but Shishio just goes on, asking if she has a guy she likes. She stares at him, and Shishio interprets the silence as a yes. He asks who, she says it’s none of his business. So he asks if it’s their homeroom teacher (as in Ookami), and Mii freezes. He’d thought it was weird that she’d spend the last day of her summer holidays with her teacher, and that would explain it. Mii denies it rather fiercely, saying there’s no way she likes Ookami, who’s always mean and generally awful. She thinks to herself that the reason she couldn’t say anything back when he was saying that stuff in front of Tora was because of the shock... but then she realizes that no, it was actually because she’d thought Ookami understood her, so hearing him say something like that had made her too sad to speak.

Shishio notices that she’s started crying, but just as he’s about to put his hand on her shoulder, Ookami pushes him away. Mii turns around to look, and Ookami tells her, “Don’t go skipping school you brat.”

Mii gets angry, asking if he came to find her just to tell her that. “Suddenly pretending to be a proper teacher, even after you ignored me like that! You’re right! I don’t care who it is, I like all the men in the world! That middle aged man over there is completely my type! (pointing to a random office worker on the street) It’s all just as you said...”

Ookami interrupts to say sorry. Mii just stares at him, still crying. He asks her to please just stop crying already, as he really can’t deal with crying girls, but Mii just cries more (Ookami is like GAH). Shishio suggest he give her a tissue, but Ookami says he doesn’t carry around stuff like that, and then puts all the blame of Mii crying on Shishio instead, saying it’s all because he kissed her in the middle of class. But he stops talking when Mii grabs a corner of his coat and buries her face in it. He pats her on the head and apologizes again. Good boy. Head-patting is adorable.

Mii narrates that her tears just keep falling, like her body is trying to get rid of all its fluid, even though she really wants to wipe them away and look at Ookami’s face, because he’s probably looking at her with a troubled expression. Shishio waits on a bench, bored, and then there’s... some random girl... ugh. So, some random girl witnesses the scene and snaps a picture with her phone. Super ugh.

This’ll get annoying.

Tora to Ookami chapter 12 Summary

COUGH, so it’s been a while. Sorry ‘bout that.

Anyway, Mii and Yayoi (in their Heidi and Klara get-ups) are rescued by the newest animal in Mii’s private zoo, Shishio (reminder: shishi = lion), clearly here to stir up trouble in the romance department. That’s not a spoiler okay. It’s just obvious. And if he can make Ookami jealous, I’m all in, man.

Yayoi forces him to accept one tenth of the amount in her wallet, which is 10,000 yen haha what. So she just walks around with 100,000 yen in her pocket (over a 1000 dollars). THAT’S SMART. Anyway, Shishio then decides to use his new funds to buy them both some tea, after realizing that they’re actually high school students and not middle schoolers, as he’d first thought. Mii is totally insulted and would rather just leave, but Yayoi’s all WE’D LOVE TO, so Mii shuffles along anyway.

Pretty much everyone they meet along the way call out a greeting when they see Shishio, and Mii concludes that he’s the exact type of person she hates (/not good at dealing with); he’s stylish, popular, good at fighting, and his greeting of choice is, “Weeey”. (LMAO WHAT. That’s adorable.) She guesses his age must be about the same as Tora and Ookami’s.

They arrive at a tea shop and Yayoi orders some fancy tea. Mii asks Shishio if Shishio is his name (rather than nickname), and he says yep, explaining that it’s written using the kanji for lion plus the kanji for male animal. So... Male Lion. LOL @ your parents. Yayoi’s like, “Tiger, wolf and lion... the carnivore set is complete.” Hahah.

A couple of girls come into the shop, also acquaintances of Shishio. One of them’s spilled something on her top, and they start talking about how there’s some fruit or something that’s supposed to remove stains, but they can’t remember which, so Mii pipes up to say that it’s daikon. She immediately regrets saying anything, either because she doesn’t want to attract attention, or because it’s kinda uncool knowing the details of folk remedies, I’m not sure. Anyway, they try it out and then they’re totally amazed when it works and Mii’s hero of the day. Along with Shishio because he saved them from evil earlier, I guess.

Mii’s caught Shishio’s interest by now (the way he looks at her makes her uncomfortable), and he asks if she was brought up by her grandmother or something. When she says yes, he starts pulling out various stuff (from who knows where), asking what they’re called, and Mii answers with their old-fashioned names. The two girls start laughing hysterically, but Mii continues flatly that she usually calls them what everyone else calls them, she just thought they’d be amused if she gave the old terms instead, so she did it on purpose for their sake. Yayoi comments in the awkward silence that follows, that the Japanese language sure is beautiful...

Mii and Yayoi take their leave, and the girls grumble that Mii gave off a bad vibe. Shishio says that’s obviously because they laughed at her like that, and personally he finds her interesting.

Outside, Mii complains at being made fun of, and Yayoi’s all, THEY MADE FUN OF YOU?! Because she’s clearly blind to such things.

And when Mii gets back to her grandmother’s restaurant, Ookami is there, yaaay. He and her grandmother both get a shock from her outfit, her gran wondering if she actually walked around outside like that, but Mii is too tired to react much and just says she’ll change and then she’ll help out. She adds, “Oh, Ookami, you’re here?” And Ookami’s like, “It’s not ‘oh, you’re here?’, it’s, ‘welcome, honoured customer’.” So Mii’s like, “Yeah, yeah, welcome,” but he’s still not happy, saying it pisses him off hearing it when she’s wearing such a weird outfit. Geez, you’re hard to please.

Mii’s grandmother heads out for a bit, leaving the shop to Mii (even though she hasn’t changed yet), and Mii asks about Tora again, wondering when he’ll come back to school (summer vacation ends tomorrow). Ookami says it’ll be a couple of weeks.

Mii regrets telling Tora she likes him. The look of surprise on his face is burned into her memory. She asks Ookami if Tora’s mentioned anything, and then she’s disappointed when he says no. Ookami gets all stern, calling her an idiot, saying he told her Tora’s used to stuff like that, told her she should just give up on him. Hearing that from her is only going to trouble him, ‘cause he’ll feel bad that he can’t give her the kind of answer she wants.

Realizing she might be causing Tora worry, Mii starts crying, and Ookami jumps backwards in horror hahaha. He panics, trying to make her stop crying by TELLING her to stop crying (useless), while she goes on about how love is just the sort of thing that you can’t control, and even though she hadn’t meant to say anything at the time, she couldn’t have gone on forever not saying anything either, and also like, even though you know you’re gonna lose the war, you still want to get in at least one good attack, right? (Ookami’s just jumps between, I see, huh, okay, I don’t even know what you mean by that and so on, hahah) And then Mii yells, “You like Tora too, right? You understand how I feel, right?!” because she insists on misunderstanding their relationship pfft.

Ignoring his denials, she says she’s jealous of him and wishes she could be him. He says he’s got it rough too, and Mii’s all, “because Tora won’t return your love?” And Ookami’s like, “NO! Because being around a freak like him drives people insane!” Mii giggles through her tears, saying she kind of understands. Ookami tells her to make up her mind on whether she’s crying or laughing.

Mii wonders to herself why she always ends up being so honest when she talks to Ookami.

Ookami brings up a person named Seki, wondering if Mii knows him. She says no, and he tells her he’s a kid in her class who hasn’t shown up for school even once since their 2nd year began, and now Ookami’s been ordered to fish him out, which he thinks is a pain. He hands Mii a note, saying it’s his address and telling her they’re going there tomorrow. she’s like, WHY DO I HAVE TO COME?! And he says it’s not like she’ll do anything but sit inside and sob and annoy her grandmother anyway, so he figured he can just as well take her along somewhere before her grandmother tells him to. Ha.

Mii watches him leave, thinking again that she really does end up being really honest around him. Maybe because he saw her freak out that time they were locked in the prep room? Or because he treasures Tora the same way she does? She thinks it’s really strange...

They head out to find Seki the next day, who surprise surprise, turns out to be Shishio. Seki Shishio. He and Mii have a mutual what-are-you-doing-here moment before it’s all cleared up, and Ookami wonders if they’re acquaintances, which Mii denies, while utterly shocked that he’s her age and all.

Ookami introduces himself, stating matter-of-factly that Shishio hasn’t been coming to school. Shishio says yeah, because it’s boring. Ookami begins to say that unless he starts coming soon and take some supplementary lessons, he won’t be able to advance to next year, but then he changes his tune, saying that it’s not like high school’s compulsory and supplementary lessons are a pain for him too, so actually, if he’s not going to come, then he should just withdraw from school officially and save them both a lot of trouble. Ah, your teacher ethics are golden.

Shishio stares, all, “Are there actually teachers who’ll say teaching’s a pain?” and Ookami says, “There are.” Then he walks away, asking Mii over his shoulder if she hanging back or coming along. She says of course she’s going home, and runs to catch up with him. Shishio thinks that both teachers and students have gotten really interesting lately.

So guess who saunters into school next day... I’ll tell you. It’s Shishio. And he claims the desk next to Mii (having asked her actual neighbour for a switch), still calling her Klara and asking her to share her textbooks with him. Kawada isn’t pleased at all, asking why he’s sitting next to Mii and who Klara is, haha. Shishio says sitting next to someone he knows will give him strength. The lol.

Their classmates can’t believe Mii knows someone like that, and when they mention Shishio’s name he turns around, all, “You called?”

He’s soon attracted a whole crowd, making instant friends with everyone, and then he’s suddenly like, “I wonder if the gym’s free? I feel like playing basketball...”

So when Ookami arrives to have class with them, everyone but Mii and Kawada’s off to play ball. Ookami just proceeds like usual, telling the two of them to open their books.

The rest of the class arrives eventually, and Ookami calmly reminds them that three late-comings equals one absence. Shishio sits down next to Mii, calling her Klara again and asking to see her textbook, but Mii’s been getting progressively more annoyed and finally blows up. She says that first of all, her name is not Klara, and also, if he’s just going to play around, he can do so elsewhere. If he’s going to come, he should sit down and pay attention.

Shishio stares at her and then he apologizes. The whole thing’s kind of like a kid being scolded by his mother haha. Their classmates wonder if Mii was always this kind of person (she’s kind of an outsider in class and all, so no one really knows her).

Realizing what she just did, Mii blushes, despairing on the inside. Ookami calls her an idiot in his mind. Hahah. He then tells her to let Shishio see her textbook.

Shishio’s interest in her has increased even more (LOL what’s the deal, man. D’you have a thing for like... I don’t even know what to call it hahaha), and he asks her what her real name is. Torisawa what?

She tells him it’s Mii, and he links it to the Moomin Valley (Little My is Mii in Japanese), haha. He’s got a thing for overseas children stories. He says she really is interesting, with her Grandma Bag of Wisdom and everything, and then he scoots closer, all, “So, d’you have a boyfriend?” (Ookami picks that moment to tell them to be quiet, HMM.)

Mii stares at him, speechless, and he continues, “Actually, I don’t care if you have one or not. Won’t you be my girl?” And he leans in for a kiss.

LOOOOOOOL.

That’s all I have to say. WTF. Hahaha.

Hahahaha.

Tora to Ookami chapter 11 Summary

Flashback to Ookami and Tora’s childhood, Ookami saying: “Tora, you should always smile. Your smile makes people happy, but your talent disturbs them. Japan’s just that sort of place.”

Then it’s present day, and Kawada’s visiting the restaurant while Mii’s working, talking about Tora, whose punishment after last chapter’s episode is house arrest. So... I guess he’s not allowed to leave his house for a while? Haha. Okay. (What, do they put a guard outside? XD)

Mii thinks it’s all her fault for getting lost, but Kawada tells her to stop thinking about it, calling her timid and sodden (like a swamp) and slug-like (lol?). She doesn’t appreciate his choice of adjectives.
“Actually, wasn’t it originally YOUR fault?”
“Huh? Was it? I can’t remember.”
“And also, could you please stop coming here everyday?” (Hahaha. Kawada’s putting in effort.)

But then Mii’s grandmother comes to bring Kawada his food, and tells Mii to stop being mean. She seems to appreciate his appetite, and Kawada’s excited about trying different dishes.

Mii broods some more over Tora, who hasn’t come to the restaurant since before the incident. She thinks back to what her classmates were saying about Tora being scary and so on, but as she didn’t see any of it herself, she can’t bring herself to believe that forever-smiling Tora could have such a violent side to him. And then Ookami arrives! Banzai! He comments on Kawada being there (again), orders some food, and then Mii asks him what Tora’s doing lately. Ookami says he’s at home, probably painting. For Tora, being in house arrest gives him time to concentrate, so it’s not so bad a punishment, really.

If that was an attempt to relieve Mii of her worry/guilt, it fails. She hangs her head, still depressed. Granny asks Ookami to take Mii with him somewhere, since she’s been stuck in the same gloomy state for days now. He suggests she head out with Kawada instead, to enjoy their summer vacation. Kawada’s all, “Just the two of us? I don’t mind.” But Mii declares she would rather spend the day staring at potatoes. HAHA.

So Granny pleads with Ookami again, who starts to say that it’s not like he’s always free, but then stops short when she (I think) threatens to take away his food. XD

Tora is indeed at home painting. He’s having flashbacks to being bullied as a kid, the other children creeped out by the intensity of his concentration, and tearing up his pictures, calling them “gross.” He startles, returning to the present, and his brush hovers midair as he thinks back to what happened at the mountain. He sits back, thinking, “Ahh, now I’ve done it / messed up.” Not entirely sure what he means. I guess it’s up to interpretation. (‘Yacchatta’ - to do something unintentionally, past tense.)

Ookami has surrendered to the task of taking the kids out to play (Granny power!), and the three of them are now on a train. Ookami takes the opportunity to have a slightly lengthier flashback, this one depicting what happened after the picture-tearing in Tora’s flashback. Tora had gotten into a fight with the kid who tore it up, and now they’re being reprimanded by a teacher, who wants to know who got violent first. Tora admits that it was him. When the teacher tells him to go home and reflect, Tora tries to defend himself by telling him that the other kid started it by tearing his picture, but the teacher insists that the one who resorted to violence is the one in the wrong. Ookami, who was awesome as a kid as well, of course, steps up to claim that tearing up someone’s picture is a form of violence. “Why won’t you look past the surface?”

That gets Ookami sent home early as well, and as they walk together, Tora apologizes, but Ookami says it’s fine. “I really hate teachers.”
“Me too.”

Present day Ookami wrinkles his brow, going, “Hm?” Then he bangs his fist on the door of the train, all, “Wait, why did we both become teachers?!” Hahaha. To balance out the loser teachers with awesome ones, obviously!

Then they arrive... at the zoo. Kawada finds this very uncool, calling Ookami a Sunday Daddy. Ookami tells him to go home if he doesn’t want to be there, but Kawada is soon excited about seeing the red pandas. Mii’s pretty happy, since she hasn’t been to the zoo since kindergarten.

So they walk around looking at animals. When Mii sees the flamingos, she remembers that Tora drew flamingos for his graduation project, and Ookami explains that he and Tora have been to this zoo a million times since their elementary school days. Apparently Tora only ever draw animals, and as he won’t move for hours once he starts drawing, he has brought Ookami so much trouble throughout life that handling a punk like Kawada is a piece of cake for him.

Then he talks about how Tora got bullied, and Mii is shocked. She says she thought Tora could only smile, that his life had no pain in it at all. Ookami stares at her, and Kawada stammers her name in disbelief, telling her that such a person does not exist, and if there did, they’d be an idiot. “Exactly how much of an idiot are YOU?”

Ookami comes to her, hm, defence? Saying that her brain’s made of simple stuff. Mii’s not sure whether she’s being praised or insulted (he’s insulting you, dear), but then he adds that she’s not an idiot. An idiot could not cook as well as she does. Kawada joins the praising, awkwardly saying that this part of her (the simpleminded part) is pretty interesting. Then there’s an announcement that the zoo’s closing soon, so they head home.

Ookami and Mii walks together, Mii thanking him for the trip to the zoo since she hadn’t been there in a while, and Ookami saying he hadn’t been there in a long time as well. He still remembered the layout of the park pretty well though, since he’s been there with Tora so many times in the past.
Mii: “You two really are good friends.”
Ookami: “...Not quite the kind of good you’re thinking of, though. Actually, not at all the kind of good you’re thinking of. ARE YOU LISTENING?”

Ha, you’re so sensitive about your masculinity :D

He takes a turn for the serious, saying life in Japan is tough for Tora, because Japan is still rough on artists. Then Tora appears, out on a walk or aomething (so no guards, heh), and he tries to smile as he asks them why they’re there together, if they’ve been somewhere. He can’t keep the smile in place though, it slides right off his face.

Tora says something about being in the middle of work and zombies away, and Ookami tells Mii to leave him alone as he probably doesn’t want anyone to see his face like that. But Mii, as the shoujo heroine she is, rejects the idea of leaving someone to stew in misery and sprints after him, calling out to make him stop. She says it’s fine, that he needn’t force himself, that Tora is Tora whether he smiles or not. “I like you anyway!”

Everyone puts on their best faces of shock. Awkward silence fills the universe.

“Uh, no, I mean, as a fellow primate (oh god HAHA), not as a p-p-p-person. In a g... global sense...”

The silence stretches, but Tora looks brighter. “I like you too, Mii.”

(This chapter is a collection of Mii’s Various Expressions of Shock and Surprise. This is now the title of this chapter.)

So anyway, she stares at him, and he goes on to say that he also likes the Himawari restaurant, and her grandmother, and Mii’s cooking. Then he thanks her, and smiles a little. Not his usual 100 watt smile, but a slightly complex one, and she thinks to herself that her heart just met with an unforeseen accident. Ookami observes from the side.

Some days later, Yayoi walks into Himawari in traditional Swiss clothing because she’s just not normal. But she’s cute. She’s just returned from Switzerland, and they smalltalk a bit, Mii being vague about the school field trip. Yayoi knows about the Tora incident, though, because her mother is a PTA person. Mii reassures her, saying it won’t become that big of a deal since the student was in the wrong as well.

Mii thinks back to the day before, as Tora came by, back to his 100 watt smile. She was a little relieved, but it also made her realize all over again that she’s not all that special to him. (Because he’s back to the mask, I assume.)

Yayoi gives Mii her very own Swiss dress and pushes her to put it on immediately. I am impossibly pleased that Mii also lets her hair down (DO THAT MORE). Yayoi squeals that the clothes suit her, Mii hesitantly squeals a little back, and then Yayoi convinces her to go for a stroll through town, because she seems to need some cheering up. I don’t know how attracting stares could cheer anyone up, but that’s just me.

People do stare, and wonder what sort of clothing it is exactly - kind of loli-ish, yet not quite? Perhaps more like Heidi or something? (Heidi being that Swiss girl who lived with her grandfather in the Alps, I assume most people know of it. I read it a million times as a kid, actually.)

Mii is a bit self-conscious, but Yayoi is full of energy from the “It’s like we’re someone else”-ness of it all, and when she sees ice cream, she insist they buy some, so they do. But then she bumps into someone and spills her ice cream on him, and he’s a total jerk, of course, who likes to take people’s money (judging by the comments of onlookers, he and his buddy often hang around that area, bumping into people with ice cream and demanding money for cleaning).

Bad Guy takes Yayoi’s wallet from her, and Mii continues to display how very shoujo-heroine she is, refusing to let the bad guys get away. She tries to snatch the wallet back, which gets her pushed to the ground. But then a hero appears! What a surprise. Can’t let a girl succeed on her own power in a shoujo manga, sigh. But then again, Mii is a weakling and doesn’t stand a chance, so whatever. Anyway, saviour saves the wallet from the meanie and throws it over to Yayoi. A friend calls out to him, calling him Shishio, asking if he’s okay.

...HAHAHAHA.

SHISHIO.
Shishi.

Lion.

Oh my god. This is a zoo.

Mii’s newest love interest (you know he’s gonna be one), turns to them, asking, “You okay? Heidi and Klara.” (Klara is Heidi’s city friend, who couldn’t walk.) He reaches his hand out to Mii on the ground, and when she stands, he goes, “Klara stood!”

And Mii thinks, “Huh?”

/End

Santa-Bikkuri-claus's notes:

Mii’s like a piece of... Miit :D Hahaha. Attracting all the carnivores. And Kawada. Poor Kawada doesn’t stand a chance.

Expect Shishi to be Ookami’s rival when things get to a more serious point, because Tora isn’t really romantically inclined (at least not yet...?) and Kawada is... well. Kawada is a normal human being with a normal human name. He should just go vegetarian.
