By Bikkuri!

Whoop! Sorry I didn’t show up last month (especially sorry to those of you who like to see the Japanese raws this way), but let’s not dwell on the past. We leave that to Futaba and Kou, those SILLY KIDS.

So. I’m going to assume everyone reading this has already read the translation and knows everything that happens, so I’ll just ramble freely without any semblance of structure. It’s also probably not going to be very nice, because I’m definitely in the this-chapter-sucked camp. A new sort of feeling, when it comes to AHR. Hopefully it won’t become the norm. Next chapter better be AWESOME >:(

Kominato saves this chapter. Seriously. Seriously. Kominato... please marry me. I’m sorry I didn’t notice these feelings for you sooner. I’ve been distracted by Kou and Touma most of the time until now, but that’s really not my fault, okay? I mean, they show up more often. In close ups! I kept getting their eyes like, right up in my face, and then they staaaared at me, you know? It never occurred to me to resist. But now... I guess what I’m trying to say is... like... I was blind, but now I see. You’re the only one for me.

I bet you can’t resist such a heartfelt proposal, right! Aya-chi~~n!<333 WE’LL MARRY IN THE SPRING. (My apologies to anyone else whose proposals I have previously accepted, but I’m sure you understand. We’re talking true love here.)

Hm. So. Getting straight to the point, I’m not really pissed at Kou for wanting to be there for Narumi in her time of need. It’s very consistent with his character, and I can’t hate someone for empathizing with someone in a similar situation to himself. Actually, an even worse situation. (He might want to be nicer to Futaba, though, but I guess I’ll get back to that later. I mean, I don’t hate Kou, but I hate the WAY he does things?)

I am, however, pissed at Sakisaka Io. I’m sorry, sensei (I usually love you for your thoughtful treatment of shoujo-clichés) /sob. But I really dislike this turn of events. I REALLY DISLIKE IT. I just subjectively really, really HATE this kind of plot line. It has zero entertainment value for me. I mean, why on earth make Narumi SUCH a tortured soul? She’s a side character. She only showed up a couple of chapters ago. JUST GAH. WHYYY A CHARACTER LIKE THIS. Her life is really freaking sad. I don’t want a character with such sad circumstances to be used as a plot device to keep the OTP from getting together (especially not when it’s SO OBVIOUS that they will, in the end). That’s just so... mean. Why would you break her heart in addition to everything else? I can see why you’d want to break Futaba’s heart a little, as she’s the heroine, and making the heroine go through some sucky times isn’t unheard of, but must you do it LIKE THIS?!?!

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THIS ANGER.
WAIT, I KNOW. I’LL TURN IT INTO ART.
A POEM:
Oh, Sakisaka-sensei, why
would you
do
that

Anyway, I just hate it when third parties start interfering. LOL I know, why the heck am I reading shoujo. Really. Why am I doing this to myself? It’s just, for a long time AHR seemed to steer clear of that, and focus more on their personal issues (which makes for much more interesting conflicts, in my opinion). I mean, there was the thing with Yuuri also liking Kou, but that felt like it was more about Futaba and Yuuri’s friendship than anything else. And then Touma showed up, but for a while I really thought he might just be there to give Kou one last push (the power of jealousy!). But of course that was delusional of me. Naive. I should have known better. I mean, is there ANY shoujo without a love triangle/square? That isn’t a one-shot? That’s actually a really good question. Let me think... Dengeki Daisy...? Ah, Fruits Basket? Uhhh, Natsume Yuujinchou, but that’s not romance...

But I digress. Forgive me. Where was I. Was I anywhere? No. Let’s go off on another tangent. You know how shoujo heroines tend to be really obsessive when it comes to their love lives? That’s annoying me lately. In the beginning, Futaba cared more about friendship, and her own personal growth, but lately she’s 100% about Kou (while Kou has never been 100% about Futaba). It pisses off the feminist in me. I wish she had a hobby (worrying about Kou does not count). I wish she had a dream (dating Kou does not count). I wish her role as a class rep had awakened some ambition in her, or something. I wish all the stuff with Kou’s difficult family situation had led us to learn something about HER family situation. I want to know who FUTABA is. What does she do after school? Does she just lie around and wait for her next chance to see Kou? Does she and Yuuri and Murao ever talk about anything besides boys? Does she plan to go to university? What line of work does she want to get into, or does she have no idea? If she has no idea, why isn’t she worrying about THAT? That’s what I was worrying about all through high school, and even now, two years into uni. Why must all shoujo heroines be so. damn. one. track. minded?

...LOL OOPS that was whiny. Sorry. I’m not here to knock the shoujo genre. I realize that love stories need to focus on the love part of the story, so... yeah. Haha. End of grumpy part of ramble? Okay.

Let’s abuse Kou instead. (Uhm, enthusiastically! So as not to sound grumpy.)

I keep saying this, but Kou really needs to sort out his priorities. (...Hooray!) Just seriously, what is he thinking? Is he going to date Narumi, yay?! Seriously? He isn’t, right? I mean (hurraaah!!), does it make sense to date someone half-heartedly out of pity, LOL?! Let me answer that for you! (Yaaay!) The answer? Is no! (Applause!) IT MAKES NO SENSE and it would suck. IF that happens, I’m going to root for Touma until THE END OF TIME. BANZAIII. (Or I might just ship Futaba x a-dream-independent-of-boys. Aim to be emperor!!)

Speaking of GG-kun, I did find him annoying last chapter. As I said, I hate interfering third parties, and last chapter, he was interfering (or trying to interfere). Not very goody-goody! Bad GG-kun! But as long as Kou is acting out his hero complex and being a noble idiot and whatnot, I won’t mind Touma attempting to take advantage of that. I don’t imagine it will have any effect, because as mentioned, Futaba is all about Kou. I really don’t think Touma stands a chance whatsoever. But as things are now, I do think he has every right to try. I have a sliiight suspicion he might confess next chapter? Maybe. And Touma confessing is bound to be adorable. (Also, he does have maybe a 5% chance? He’s her type, after all XD)

Ahh... what else. About the kiss(es)? I noticed that that’s been the focus a lot with the rest of you XD In my opinion, Kou handled that whole thing a million times better than Futaba. She messed that up on her own. I don’t understand why on earth she’s so obsessed over whether Kou is the kind to kiss people because of the mood, or if he’s the kind to protect his purity with his life until he meets his soulmate or whatever. I can’t remember ever making such a big deal out of kissing, so it’s kind of an alien way of thinking for me. That also makes it annoying. Haha. I guess I just don’t understand the pure heart of a young girl in love... /oldman.

Anyway, like... the beginning of the chapter. Was just. Really cute. Him resting his forehead on the top of her head like that? Omg~<3 And then Futaba ruins it GODDANGIT. Instead of taking the roundabout way of figuring out if he’s serious or just going with the flow, couldn’t you just have asked him if he likes you? Like, “I like you, do you like me?” PROBLEM SOLVED. But okay, because she has those stupid insecurities regarding Narumi, I guess I’m glad she asked him straight out if it was true. Not that it should actually matter. But yeah. And then he admits to it, which is fine (I don’t know if he’s being honest though, he goes all blank and seems a bit angry. Disappointed in Futaba’s lack of faith in him, maybe? Or is he just thinking really hard, realizing Narumi lied, realizing why she’d tell such a lie, and then deciding to play along with it? Uhh, I dunno. Don’t feel like analyzing this too deeply) but he also says he didn’t like her (Narumi). GET IT, FUTABA?! He said he didn’t like NARUMI, he never said he doesn’t like YOU. FUTABA. YOU IDIOT. YOU SILLY TEENAGE SILLY CHILDISH SILLY GIRL.

And then she runs out of the classroom like a drama queen, and when Kou doesn’t follow her, she’s like “So that’s his answer”. Oh my god. Oh my god. I want to high five your stupid face. … … … NO I’M SORRY VIOLENCE IS BAD.

(Ah, by the way, whether Kou kissed Narumi or Narumi kissed Kou is not really clear. It’s more just like “there was a kiss”. Which there might not have been.)

Ahh, just in general I’m not really happy with Futaba this chapter. I’m not happy with Kou either, but I’m kind of used to being unhappy with Kou. Futaba, however, does not usually annoy me like this. I mean, I love her :( Just not right now. She clearly doesn’t trust Kou even a little, which I find strange at this point. I guess it might just stem from the fact that she’s ridiculously insecure. She seems to have no sympathy for Narumi at the moment, and although I guess she’ blinded by jealousy, she’s being self-centered and over-dramatic. The biggest tragedy in HER life is just that she’s so hot that girls end up hating her out of envy, and the guy she likes is not completely invested in her and only her. Compared to Narumi, that’s really... not a big deal. I’d like to see her at least realize these things. I guess all this might be happening for the sake of her character growth, though. I suppose so. I guess I hope so. (I don’t mean to say that there’s anything wrong with having a privileged life of little tragedy, but I do think it’s worth being conscious of how lucky one actually is when that is the case. It’s not like she deserves being treated by crap because her parents aren’t dead and she’s made friends lately, but SHE HERSELF should realize that she’s pretty blessed. Anyway, they all need to calm down. Too much happening in one night, omg.)

I AM really annoyed at Kou as well, ‘cause I’m not a fan of the noble idiot type. You know, the kind who gets all “I shall sacrifice my own happiness, and sometimes even the happiness of the person I love, for the sake of some other person/great cause! Please, watch me as I self-destruct!!” It’s natural for his character, but it’s ANNOYING AS FRACK.

And I don’t know what the point of that hug at the end was. I actually just thought the whole thing at the end got so dramatic it was stupid. I even rolled my eyes. I never roll my eyes at AHR! What’s going on!! I’m being really critical! Someone help!! I’m going to regret this when Sakisaka turns this all around, which she’s likely to do. She’s probably just trolling us (like when we were all like oh-my-god-did-kou-and-yuuri-kiss-on-the-floor-amongst-the-potatoes-?!?!?). But since I don’t know what she’s going to do with this in the future, I’ll just sulk for now.

Another thing. Is it just me, or is Kou only ever a proper jerkface to Futaba? He’s supposed to like her, yet he deliberately stabs her in the heart? Whyyyy?!

...wow my thoughts are coming out even more rambly and messy than ever today. This chapter is messing with my literary talents... (cough)

By the way. Page 30. Haha. When I looked through the Chinese scans before I got the J raws, I had a good laugh with myself because I kind of thought it looked like Kominato was confessing, and Kou was turning him down. I’m sorry. But... I’m not... opposed to this pairing... aaah. Hah. Haha. No. Okay. Ignore me. *strangling slash shipping urge* I’ve been reading too much BL lately. omg has anyone read anything by Hayakawa Nojiko? She’s such an ARTIST and also my soulmate. Er, next to Kominato. She’s my soulmate no. 2. I swear Kurayami ni Strobe is the most adorable one-shot I’ve read since---NOO SOMEONE STOP ME. I’m treating this like my personal blog or something. I’m so unprofessional (Minchi, fire me already!).

I feel like I say this a lot, but I apologize deeply for rambling for so long (omg, this one is SO LONG. It’s like over four A4 pages WTF D: ) and making no sense (I really don’t pretend to be insightful here, I’m just... rambling) and just in general for being a hopeless person. I recently forgot one of my best friends’ birthday. For four days. Four days. I’m a terrible, unorganized, hopeless person. I apologize to my parents and all the world. I honestly feel utterly amazed whenever anyone tells me they like reading these. But thank you so much /sob

It’s made me kind of happy to see how almost everyone’s been ready to strangle Kou to pieces, though. Like (almost) everyone’s all OH GOD FUTABA MY BBY DON’T LOOK SO SAD like she’s your best friend and Kou is the guy who just broke your best friend’s heart. XD That’s so cute. You guys are so cute YOU’RE ALL INVITED TO MY WEDDING WITH KOMINATO IN THE SPRING.

Now, to close off this beastly wall of text... Seeing as my fanfiction last time was just SUCH A SUCCESS (?), I've decided to write another one! Okay! And now you're like, "N...no... no, Bikku, don’t -- one was enough. Okay, B? One was enough! Don't... don't do i--"

QUIET! HERE I GO.

It was a sunny day in April. The sun was shining (because it was sunny), and it didn’t rain (because it was sunny). The birds were singing and the wind was dancing. Kominato Aya and Bikkuri Bikkuri stood side by side in front of the minister who was to unite them in holy matri...

...JUST KIDDING HAHAHA (except not really BECAUSE IT’S REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN OKAY).

I hope Yuuri throws a cupcake at Kou next chapter.

That is all.

Kou: Why aren’t you saying anything…
Futaba: You… Why aren’t you…
Kou: Eh… Me?

Page 5
Kou: Because it’s embarrassing.
Futaba (thinking): That kiss just now, was it because it just happened because of the situation. But just looking at Kou’s expression…

Page 6
Futaba (thinking): There’s no way that could be. However…
Futaba: Why did you kiss me?
Kou: Eh… Why… Do you really need to ask?
Futaba: Because it could’ve just happened because of the situation. This is a very important point!
Kou: Do I look like that sort of person? (How surprising.)

Page 7
Futaba: I’m not sure.
Kou: What?
Futaba: Then why did you kiss Narumi-san, who’s clearly not your girlfriend?
Kou: … Did Narumi tell you that?

Page 8
Futaba: …
Kou: Is that so.
Futaba: Hey…hey. Did you really kiss Narumi-san?
Kou: Yes.

Page 9
Futaba: And you clearly didn’t have a relationship?
Kou: Right.
Futaba: Does Kou like Narumi-san?
Kou: No.
Futaba: …But you still kissed Narumi-san…
Kou: I did kiss her.

Page 10
Futaba: … What… What do you mean ‘Do I look like that sort of person?’ eh?” You’re just that sort of person!

Page 11
Futaba (thinking): This time he didn’t follow me. This is Kou’s answer…
Kominato: Ah, Yoshioka… Where did you go? Speaking of which, do you know where Kou went?

Page 12
Futaba: I don’t know anything about Kou.
Kominato: Mm… forget it. I’ll go look for him.
Murao: What happened Futaba.
Yuuri: Did something happen? Futaba.

Page 13
Kominato: Ah! Kou. Bastard, what have you been doing… What is it?

Page 14
Futaba: Kou is able to kiss someone he doesn’t have feelings for after all. He admitted to everything with Narumi. He could at least explain it a little bit… That’s why, kissing me didn’t mean anything…
Yuuri: …It’s a bit weird for me to say this, but when I confessed to Mabuchi-kun, I didn’t feel like he was a dishonest person.

Page 15
Yuuri: If the matter of Narumi-san really bothers you that much, you should ask him to explain it in more detail, right?
Futaba: …mm. That’s true. But even so…
Futaba (thinking): I don’t want to ask about Kou and Narumi. That is to say, somewhere in my heart I’m afraid of knowing the truth.
Yuuri: Futaba, do you look down on me?

Page 16
Yuuri: When we were rivals, you didn’t seem like such a weak person. If it was me, it wouldn’t be anything to worry about. You’re probably unconsciously looking down on me.
Futaba (thinking): I… Did I somehow, without realizing it, develop this sort of feeling…
Yuuri: If Futaba doesn’t do anything and retreats of your own accord…

Page 17
Yuuri: Then I’ll feel like you’re treating me like a dummy. I might even start disliking you because of this! Is that okay?!
Futaba: No.
Yuuri: Okay then. So it might’ve just happened because of the situation? So what!

Page 18
Yuuri: You’ll just have to make it real!!
Futaba: Right. After all, my feelings were already revealed with that sort of atmosphere in the classroom just now. I just needed to say the word “like” as well!
Yuuri: Right—Right – If you don’t say it after all this then it’d be such a shame!

Page 19
Kominato: Ah… Ah—And I was thinking that you, you…
Kou: …
Kominato: Then why did you start talking about Narumi-san at that juncture? In reality, even if that did happen, isn’t it in the past? It doesn’t matter. Even if you kissed her, it doesn’t matter. It has no connection with the present.
Kou: …
Kominato: …Is that to say that you have feelings for that person?
Kou: That person –

Page 20
Kou: Narumi isn’t the type of person who’d say something without purpose…
Kominato: Ah? Is that to say it was on purpose? Then she said it to obstruct Yoshioka and you?! What an amazing battle spirit—That’s why I said it before--! Stupid. You shouldn’t keep in contact with her.

Page 21
Kominato: So you do know how she feels?
Kou: …She said something about liking me before… But when I saw her at her father’s funeral, she said that this was all in the past. That’s why I thought there wasn’t anything wrong about keeping in touch…
Kominato: You big idiot!!!

Page 22
Kou: Ah.
Kominato: Is it Narumi-chan?!
Kou: No—It’s a friend from Nagasaki. Oh, what is it. Ah—Right, Narumi already left. She seems just as cheerful as usual?
Phone: No, I’m not calling about that.
Kou: Then what is it.
Phone: I only heard this yesterday from my mom…
Kou: What is it already?

Page 23
Phone: Narumi doesn’t live with her mother right now.
Kou: Ah? What happened?
Phone: I originally thought that she went to live with her mom. But her mom just remarried— So Narumi is staying temporarily with her mother’s relatives. I called her just now to confirm.
Kou: …What

Page 24
Phone: Narumi has already been abandoned by her mother.
Tanaka: Ah, Kou— Thank you for helping me fix the stage just now--
Kou: …Aaah.

Page 25
Tanaka: Ah, are you two going to come celebrate? Kou, what do you want to eat?

Page 26
Tanaka: Forget it. I’ll just make some curry for you. Curry is still edible even if you eat it tomorrow.
Phone: Hey--
Kou: Ah, sorry. I’m going to hang up, but I’ll call you back. Bye.

Page 27
Kou: Ah, Narumi? Where are you right now? Have you boarded the train already? Where? A park on the way to the train station… Ah, there--
Kominato: Kou…
Kou: I’ll go right away. Wait for me.

Page 28
Kominato: Kou, did you forget what I said just now? Don’t keep holding on to some weird savior complex--!!
Kou: Haha.

Page 29
Kominato: What are you laughing about? I’m really angry right now!
Kou: Sorry… I just feel kind of embarrassed…
Kominato: Ah…? What?
Kou: Just thinking about how I have a friend who’ll really get angry for me makes me a bit embarrassed. Having a family member who’ll make curry for me no matter if I’ll eat it or not, just thinking about it…

Page 30
Kou: But Narumi doesn’t have anyone like that right now.
Kominato: You clearly know that girl’s feelings, but you decide to remain by her side. You realize what this means, right?

Page 31
Futaba (thinking): Kou?
Futaba: Hey— What’s wrong? Kou, where are you going?
Touma (thinking): Where did Yoshioka-san and that Mabuchi end up going… Ah, found them!
Kominato: He’s going to Narumi-chan, probably at the roadside park.

Page 32
Kominato: I kind of heard from the phone. It seems like… that Narumi’s been abandoned by her own mother. Since Kou’s an idiot, he compared her to himself and felt sorry for her.
Futaba (thinking): Eh… been rejected by her own mother… Is that why Kou wants to stay by her side…?

Page 33
Kominato: Ah.
Touma: Yoshioka?
Yuuri: Futaba-chan.
Everyone: Eh?!

Page 34
Futaba (thinking): Kou… Don’t go to Narumi-san… I’m already worried that there’s a bond between the two of you that I can’t step into— If he knows that Narumi, whose situation is similar to his own, is suffering even more, Kou… My throat hurts so badly.

Page 35
Futaba (thinking): It’s hard to breathe. It feels so heavy…
Kou (flashback?): You decided to help out again— I can only help you deal with the aftermath--
Futaba (thinking): Again.

Page 36
Futaba (thinking): I have to run. I have to catch up. Kou--
Touma: Watch out.

Page 37
Touma: It’s… a red light right now.
Futaba: Thank… Thank you.

Page 38
Futaba: But, why is Kikuchi-kun here… Ah, that’s right. Kou…

Page 39
Futaba: Kou. Kou.

Kou: I’m going. Bye.
Narumi: Ah, Kou-chan is leaving?
Futaba (thinking): What’s going on. It feels like nothing actually happened!! Eh? Was what I touched really his lips? Did my hopes somehow mix into it all?
Person: Next up the second song is –
Futaba (thinking): So was it actually just something completely meaningless to Kou…?

Yuuri: That was so fun— The band was so cute. I kind of want to go see a concert.
Murao: Futaba, what’s wrong?
Futaba: …Umm—… Ah, about that… Well just now.
Touma: Yoshioka-san.
Futaba: Ah, Kikuchi-kun.

Page 8
Futaba: That was a great performance.
Touma: Yoshioka-san wasn’t really listening at all—?
Futaba: Huh?! Ah… that is… there were a lot of reasons… I was listening really closely at first…
Touma: It’s best to forget things like that.
Futaba: Huh?
Touma: Things where both sides didn’t really mean it and it was just an accident. Those sorts of things.
Futaba (thinking): People saw that thing.

Touma’s friend: Touma, there are still some things to clean up.
Touma: Ah, okay. I think that it’s best to forget meaningless things as quickly as possible.
Futaba (thinking): Meaningless…
Murao: What?
Yuuri: By accident?

Page 10
Someone?: Ah--
Yuuri: Rea…really?
Futaba: But just like Kikuchi-kun said, Kou probably didn’t even mean it… But to me it’s still... the first time…
Murao: We should go see what Mabuchi is doing. (Then we can decide if you can marry him.) Let’s go.
Futaba: Ah.
Yuuri: Let’s go, let’s go.
Touma’s friend: Hey— Touma--
Touma: Hmm?

Page 11
Touma’s friend: That girl doesn’t seem to be interested in you at all? What’ll you do?
Touma: Oh— But I knew that right from the start. But I’m not willing to leave it at that. That’s why, if you ask me “what’ll I do?” Then I can only reply that “I’ll never give up.”

Touma’s friend: …That’s exactly what I really like about Touma.
Someone: Hahaha, you’re so gross.
Narumi: Ah, Kou-chan, look out.
Kou: Ow--
Narumi: What are you doing, are you okay?
Kou: I was a little out of it.
Narumi: You’ve been out of it for a while now?
Kou: Ah—… No. Hmm. It’s nothing.

Page 13
Narumi: Kou-chan?
Kou: Hmm?
Narumi: Are you free on your next day off? I want you to help me study. Kou-chan’s grades are very good, right?
Kou: No, I’m not that good right now. Our lessons also aren’t on the same pace as Narumi’s classes. Wouldn’t it be better to ask someone from your own school? That way you’ll become more familiar and closer with each other.
Narumi: That’s, that’s right. You’re right.
Kou: Yes— Yes--

Page 14
Tanaka: Ah, Kou. Sorry, but could you come help? (Some things outside need fixing.) Speaking of which, are you free right now… (A date?)
Kou: Will it be done pretty fast?
Tanaka: Very fast!
Narumi: Ah, that’s okay since I wanted to go to the bathroom anyway. I’ll just wait for you here.
Tanaka: Then I’ll just borrow this guy for a second. (Sorry.)

Page 15
Futaba: Narumi-san.
Narumi: Ah.
Futaba: Eh…eh? You’re alone?
Murao: Where’s Mabuchi?
Narumi: A guy who was wearing weird clothes, probably a teacher? He took him away. But he said that he’ll be back soon.
Murao: Hey, did Mabuchi say anything? Or did he look strange at all?
Narumi: Ah… Are you talking about what happened just now?

Page 16
Futaba: So Narumi-san… saw it too?
Narumi: Hn… It scared me to death. It’s… not a big deal, right? But you don’t need to worry about it! Kou-chan didn’t seem to care at all.
Futaba: Ah… at all… It was like that after all.
Narumi: It probably wasn’t even his first time.

Page 17
Futaba: Ah.. Why does Narumi-san know those kinds of things about Kou… Are you saying that it was with Narumi-san…?
Narumi: Oops… I accidentally let it slip, not good.
Futaba (thinking): Why? Narumi-san isn’t his girlfriend or his ex-girlfriend, right. Then what is she? Why would they kiss?
Touma (flashback): To be honest… There are plenty of guys who would kiss a girl just because it was fun or if the situation called for it, not because they actually like her.

Page 18
Futaba (thinking): So, is Kou one of them.
Futaba (thinking): I’m so stupid. That one time, even if “we were separated by only a millimeter,” nothing happened. That other time, that other time only my heart was pounding. And this time, only I –

Page 19
Narumi: Ah, Kou-chan’s back.
Futaba: Let’s go.
Murao: Futaba.
Kou: Narumi, what did you say to her?

Page 20
Narumi: Nothing really.
Announcer: It is now 4:30. All activities are now over. Will all the ordinary participants please leave the premises.
Kou: I’m going to go participate in the night festival. I can only accompany you here.
Narumi: Thanks, today was a lot of fun.

Page 21
Kou: Bye then.
Narumi: Mm, bye.
Her phone vibrates.
Narumi: Ah, mm. Kou-chan’s cultural festival just ended. Mm, it was a lot of fun. Even though— …it was a lot of fun.

Page 22
Announcer: The night festival will now begin. Will all students please gather in the arena. Will all class officers please gather in front of the arena stage so we can conduct a count of all persons. I will repeat this message.
Futaba (thinking): I’m even more presumptuous than I thought. I thought I was supposed to be a little bit special to Kou. And that’s why I feel so hurt right now. How embarrassing.

Page 23
Futaba (thinking): Why did Narumi-san and he kiss? How did they kiss? If Narumi-san likes Kou, then I’ve pretty much lost? He doesn’t care at all about an accidental kiss like that.
Kou: Yoshioka.

Page 24
Kou: That--
Futaba (thinking): What should I do? I can’t even look directly at his face.
Touma: Yoshioka-san. You’ve worked hard--
Futaba: Ah, Kikuchi-kun, you too--
Touma: Do you still remember about the dance?

Page 25
Futaba: Hm— Not really.
Touma: Me too.
Kou: Yoshioka, am I not talking to you right now? Why are you acting like you didn’t see. Did you mind what just happened?
Futaba (thinking): “I didn’t mind.” He…

Page 26
Futaba (thinking): His words seem to carry this meaning.
Futaba: What was that just now.
Kou: Hey, turn around.
Futaba (thinking): My face, all stiff from thinking I was superior, I can’t let him see it!
Kou: Hey?!

Page 27
Kou: You…
Touma: Her leaving means that she doesn’t want to talk to you anymore, right? You should just let her go.
Kou: This has nothing to do with you.

Page 28
Futaba (thinking): Ah—ah— Even though I ran away like that, running away makes it feel even harder to look at him…
Kou: Yoshioka. Why did you run away?
Futaba: Ah--

Page 29
Kou: Just tell me why you’re running away.
Futaba: Isn’t it because Kou’s following me—?!
Kou: Is it because you’re fleeing?
Futaba: Then you— just stop following me!!
Futaba (thinking): Ah!! That’s right. The back door is still open… Crap.
Kou: Hey, have you had enough.

Page 30
Futaba: Don’t come over here.
Kou: If you’re going to go easy on me, then just don’t throw at all— (gets hit)
Futaba (thinking): Crap… The headbands were also mixed in there.
Futaba: So… sorry. Kou… are you okay?

Page 31
Kou: If this is about what happened just now, I’m sorry.
Futaba (thinking): Kou really doesn’t mind.
Kou: Even though I didn’t do it on purpose… But if it annoyed you that much, it was just an accident.
Futaba (thinking): Does he not mind at all?

Page 32
Kou: So don’t let it bother you, okay.
Futaba: I’m not bothered…

Page 33
Kou: Why are you getting angry.
Futaba: I’m not angry.
Kou: You’re clearly getting angry.
Futaba: I’m not angry. And I’m not losing my temper. I’m not bothered at all by stuff like that.
Futaba (thinking): What am I doing, I’m only saying the exact opposite… I

Page 34
Futaba (thinking): But I can’t stop myself.
Futaba: That’s right— That’s how it is— That’s what Kikuchi-kun said too. Things where both sides didn’t really mean it and it was just an accident. Those things are meaningless.
Futaba (thinking): But I’m not satisfied. Faced with Kou who’s completely calm, as if nothing happened.

Page 35
Futaba: That’s right! It’s as if nothing happened at all!
Futaba (thinking): I can’t be satisfied with myself, who can’t act as if nothing happened.
Kou: So if it’s not by accident, it’s okay?

Page 36
No text

Page 37
Kou: Now you can’t act like nothing happened.
Futaba: What is this, how excessive, suddenly attacking like that…

Page 38
Kou: Then, I’ll kiss you again. This time it won’t be a sudden attack. If you don’t want it, you can run away.

Page 39
Futaba (thinking): I can see a faint blush on Kou’s face. Is it because of the rays of the setting sun coming through the window, or. Or.

Page 40
Kou: If you’re willing, then, close your eyes.

I feel like it would be pretty superfluous to summarize chapters since you already get lovely translations by Estella every month. So I kind of stopped a few chapters ago. But there are actually a few people who ask me to share my thoughts now and again, so I’m... I’m going to do it! I’m sharing them! My thoughts! YOU ASKED FOR IT.

OKAY AND ALSO I JUST MISS IT.

I’m actually really interested in everyone else’s thoughts on this chapter, because I’m just not very good at predictioning. That’s a word. Just trust me. Don’t look it up. Anyway, just BAH I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN. And y’know, lots of you write your thoughts in that chatbox thing on the AHR tumblr, but that’s really hard to follow, so I’m afraid I’ve probably missed some enlightening comments. And so I am stuck in the gloomy sadness of my own inability to come up with anything clever :(

...But I’m getting ahead of myself. Uhh, so I scribbled a few bullet-point notes while reading the chapter, so I’m just going to go through those.

- Narumi
...is a cute name. (I think that’s what I was thinking when I made that note.) And she’s pretty! But what I noticed the most about her, really, was the shape of her eyes. Has anyone else noticed that? Like, aren’t they the female version of Kou’s eyes? Or maybe I’m just imagining that XD But really, they’re still kind of suspiciously similar in a ton of other ways. Just, you know, opposite. (Wow, that makes no sense.) I mean, one lost his mother, the other lost her father, both have (presumably) divorced parents, both moved and had to start fresh at a new school, both have black, wavy hair and similar eyes... What’s the deal?  I’d have guessed they were cousins or something, except if they were, Kou would have said so already. The only option left is that she’s his magic clone specifically manufactured to MAKE THINGS COMPLICATED :(

- GG-KUN. BAND.
...I give up writing anything coherent about Touma. Andjifnaeoh. Go serenade Futaba in the moonlight until she forgets all about that silly whatever-his-name-was, Kou or whatev--Waaait! Ohohho. You nearly got me there. No, Touma. No!! I’m not on your team! STOP PLAYING DIRTY. STOP CONFUSING ME.

- Kou NEEDS to sort out his priorities.
He’s in love with Futaba, uneasy because Touma is clearly into her as well, and STILL he lets the whole deal with Narumi come first. I just don’t really get it. I mean, okay, I SORT of get it. But not really. Though Carla posted a wise comment about this (although it was about ch19) over on my WP, allow me to quote: “Picture it. You just started dating someone you’re madly in love with. Your brain is filled with endorphins and you’d like to be with him 24/7 and be all lovey dovey forever (things are usually like that with recent relationships). He is your #1 priority when it comes to spend time and attention. BUT, you’re not his. You can’t be, because right now, he has a friend who needs him more than you do. On top of that, said friend is a girl. Now THAT sucks. I wouldn’t want to be in that kind of situation. So, kudos to Kou.” ...I’ll just leave figuring this whole mess out to Kou. Good luck, mate.

- Kominato pre-confession bawww
What is WITH everyone in this manga. Sakisaka-sensei is really, really good at making amazing side characters. I’m officially completely invested in Kominato’s whole life and would easily have read a manga dedicated to him being awesome on his own. Tanaka-sensei is adorable and funny as well, but Murao, just so you know. You’re GOING to end up with Kominato. It is OFFICIAL. Because I SHIP IT.

(...Has anyone else managed to get used to calling them Shuuko and Aya? XD Somehow they’re just Murao and Kominato to me.)

Also, Kominato is one of those 100% awesome guys who are secure enough in their masculinity to feel perfectly at ease walking around in a maid’s outfit. <3

- AAAAAAH
Well, that’s cryptic. I think I was reacting to Touma with a bass? Or Touma accidentally calling out to Futaba with the microphone on? Or Touma singing? Or Touma blushing? Or Touma smiling? Or Touma? Or Touma? I think I was reacting to Touma. Probably reacting to Touma.

- lol okay Kou is cute, too.
In that sulky way. And non-obsessive jealousy is always cute. Also, Kou and Futaba just look so right together, somehow. Like whenever there’s a frame with both Kou and Futaba in it, I always think that. They’re just... Futaba and Kou. They just MATCH and akjsadkas THEY BELONG TOGETHER.

- KIKKU.
TOUMA’S NICKNAME IS KIKKU. THIS IS DEEPLY HILARIOUS TO ME. GOD, HE’S SUCH A PUPPY.

- “Kou-chan”.
The heck? This is suspicious. “-chan”, as far as I know, is not something you usually attach to guys unless you knew them in kindergarten, or unless it’s someone you’re REALLY close to. But I guess there are exceptions...?

- Futabaaa.
(Why are almost all my notes just names.) Suddenly deciding to confess in the evening and then silently freaking out <3 I LOVE YOU FU.

- HAHAHAHA
Kou notices Futaba acting weird, and as he tends to do, he assumes she’s feeling ill. So he leans down to ask if she’s okay by yelling in her ear, I guess (meaning he has to lean down to face-level), Futaba turns around and looks up at the same time, and THEY KISS. Oh god, I’ve been wanting to write that FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. I DON’T CARE THAT IT’S AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS AWESOME. Kou! The universe is on your side at last! THIS IS YOUR CHANCE MAN.

...But of course, they’ll mess it up somehow. How, I don’t know. But there will be drama. I think. I mean. Probably. Right? Oh man, I get so insecure when I try to predict anything, it’s like a disease. The I’m-worried-that-if-I-predict-something-bad-it’ll-come-true-and-if-I-predict-something-good-it-won’t-happen disease :( Omg guys, do you think I’m dying? :(

- RIGHT IN FRONT OF TOUMA HKJSBDAKI EXCUSE ME SAKISAKA-SENSEI WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH. Ouch in the kokoro :’(

- All these love triangles.
I’m sure Narumi hasn’t been introduced just so she can join the audience to Futaba and Kou’s epic love adventures. But... am I the only one who finds it distractingly unlikely for there to be so many love triangles in one little group of people? I mean... come on. Right?! It’s weird! Sakisaka-sensei! It’s weird!! And... annoying.

Let me end this with a short fanfiction. I’ll fight through my disease and make a prediction! :|

~*~*MAGICAL TRANSITION*~*~

Futaba couldn’t process what had just happened. Something soft had... pressed against her lips... and Kou’s face... was right in front her... eyes staring straight into hers... She looked away reflexively. What? What? She’d just been thinking about confessing... Had she fallen asleep? Was she dreaming? Did Kikuchi-kun’s band play magic lullabies? No, they were too loud...

Then that must mean... She’d just accidentally... kissed Kou.  She felt her face go warm, and looked up to see how Kou was reacting. He’d straightened back up, and was looking down at her seriously. When their eyes met again, he took her hands in his and said, “Futaba... wait, I mean Yoshioka (I forgot I was Kou for a second), we have just shared a magical kiss. We must hurry up and get married.”

“...But!”

“By the way, Narumi is just a cousin. Sorry, did I forget to mention that? Anyway, have I told you that I love you?”

“Wait! I was supposed to confess!”

“I take that as an ‘okay’ to my marriage proposal.”

“Sure. I mean, we’ve kissed now, and everything. Let’s name our first born child Bikkuri. I do love that girl.”

“Oh, yes, she’s a real genius. We should have her plan out the rest of our lives.”

“That’s a good idea.”

And then Bikkuri decided that they’d live happily ever after.

The end.

Special thanks to people on the AHR chatbox of AHR tumblr (dnjs <3, Kurini, among others!) who helped out with a few names for Estella.

Page 1 (title page)
This person, what sort of person is she? This person – who saw what I could not, Kou during his middle school years

Page 2-3
Clearly nothing has begun yet. But it still never stops growing, this expectant sort of feeling.

Page 4
Kou: Narumi, Just sit there then.
Narumi: Thanks.
Futaba (thinking): Narumi …So that’s her name…
Text: Piercing pain

Page 5
Kou: Narumi, did you want something?
Narumi: Oh… A milk tea.
Kou: Okay.
Guy: Hey, is Narumi-chan Mabuchi-kun’s girlfriend?
Narumi: Ah… no, no!
Guy: Ah… so it’s like that… Then… are you like an ex-girlfriend…?
Narumi: Ahaha!

Page 6
Narumi: It’s not like that either.
Guy: Okay.
Narumi: We were in the same grade together in middle school at Nagasaki. I just recently moved over here too…
Guy: Oh, so it’s like that.
Futaba (thinking): She seems like a really sincere person.
Futaba (thinking): I feel as if I can stop worrying a little…
Kou (thinking): After I put the tea in the hot water, how long should I wait?

Page 7
Kominato: Is this right? If you do nothing but spoil that child, nothing good will come of it.
Kou: …I know that.
Guy: You came alone today? Why? You didn’t bring some friends? (Female friends)
Narumi: Yes. I just moved here, so I haven’t gotten around to making friends yet… (Very sorry, I didn’t bring any female friends with me.)
Guy: Ah… ah, is that so.

Page 8
Kou: It won’t be a problem. If it’s Narumi, then she should get used to her new school pretty quickly. She’s very good at making friends, right?

Page 9
Narumi: Yes.
Guy: Good luck, Narumi-chan.
Kou: Ah, by the way, “Narumi” is her surname. (I’ll let you know first.)
Guy: What? I thought that was your first name. (Wahaha)
Narumi: Yes, my name is Narumi Yui.
Futaba (thinking): So “Narumi” was her surname… It seems like their relationship isn’t what I was worried it would be.

Page 10
Futaba (thinking): I feel as if I’ve wronged her by being so cautious. I feel a little guilty, really.
Shuuko: I say, Mabuchi. Even if it’s your friend, you need to receive your guests properly, more like a maid.
Kou: Oh…kay.
Shuuko: (A little cuter.)
Kou: (Yes. <3)
Yuuri: Hello, you’re Mabuchi-kun’s friend, right.
Narumi: Excuse me, I didn’t order this.
Futaba: (In order to lessen her guilt) It’s a special gift, for Kou’s friend.

Page 11
Narumi: “Kou” …?
Futaba: ?
Narumi: You two must be very close, right?
Futaba: Ah, I was classmates with him for a semester during middle school…
Kou: You see, I changed my name afterwards.
Narumi: Ah, so it’s like that!

Page 12
Kou: Speaking of which, Narumi your surname right now is…
Futaba (thinking): ? Her surname right now?
Narumi: Ah… It’s still Narumi.

Page 13
Narumi: It’s all a bit sudden, and there are still so many things.
Kou: Is that so. I was like that too, at that time.
Futaba (thinking): Ah, so are Narumi-san’s parents also divorced? She really is in the same situation as Kou.
Futaba (thinking): I feel as if…

Page 14
Futaba (thinking): I feel as if… How should I put it? I feel as if…
Futaba (thinking): But I myself don’t reallt know what sort of feeling this is.
Futaba: Ah, Kikuchi-kun. Welcome home, master.
Touma: I… I’m back… (Is that what I’m supposed to say? I don’t know.) Yoshioka-san is very handsome. (Hahaha.)

Page 15
Narumi: So, does it look good?
Kou: No, it’s very plain.
Narumi: Ah, how rude ---! You should be saying that it looks good in a situation like this.
Futaba: It seems like she’s a friend from middle school. Kou lived in Nagasaki for a while, so that’s when they met.
Touma: Oh…
Touma (thinking): Why can’t she be his girlfriend? What a pity.
Futaba: Then, please wait a while…

Page 16
Touma (looks)
Narumi: I’ll come back soon. When do you take a break?
Touma (thinking): I feel as if that fellow is quite the smooth operator, always seeking favor everywhere, like a playboy kind of? I don’t like it at all.
Futaba: Sorry for the wait.
Touma: Yoshioka-san.

Page 17
Touma: Today, after all this, our band will perform…
Futaba: Eh? Kikuchi-kun is in a band?
Touma: It’s just a temporary thing for the cultural festival. (But we’ve practiced a lot for it.)
Futaba: What does Kikuchi-kun play?
Touma: Bass, and I sing a little bit too. (So) Yoshioka-san, will you come see it?
Futaba: When does it start?
Touma’s friend: Ah, please come. (Definitely.)

Page 18
Touma: 2:30.
Futaba: Ah, that’s just when I get a break.
Touma: So it’s OK then?
Futaba: Umm…
Futaba (thinking): Kou will definitely go hang out with Narumi-san…
Futaba: Got it! Starts at 2:30!
Touma: That’s right, and it’s at the gym.
Narumi: Hey--- Hey--- What’s this?
Kou: Isn’t it pretty good?
Narumi: …

Page 19
Shuuko (thinking): It really was pretty heavy after all.

Page 20
Kominato: Give it to me, I’ll take it. Just help me carry this. You should get one of the guys to help you with stuff like this.
Shuuko (thinking): He’s wearing that and still thinking of himself as a guy?
Shuuko: Everyone looks pretty busy, and I had some spare time… Thanks, I understand.

Page 21
Kominato: Tanaka (sensei) told me to come help you.
Shuuko: Tanaka-sensei?!
Shuuko (thinking): That was loud.
Shuuko: Umm… Eh, my throat was a bit scratchy.
Kominato: No… Anyway, I know.
Shuuko: ? You know what?

Page 22
Kominato: I was saying, I know whom the person that I like likes.
Shuuko: Huh…
Shuuko (thinking): It can’t be that he realized it…!? And this is the first time he used the word “like” too… The first time…

Page 23
Shuuko: I think Kominato-kun is a good person…
Kominato: Hey, wait a second! That wasn’t a confession just now.
Shuuko: !?
Kominato: I’m not ready right now, so I don’t want to do it in a hurry and then have to face the finality of it all. So that wasn’t a confession just now.

Page 24
Kominato: That’s why from now on I will display a better side to you. Just wait a little longer for me please.
Shuuko (thinking): A confession preview. (That’s pretty new.)
Shuuko: Kominato-kun is quite crafty.

Page 25
Kominato: But I’m also not a bad guy. Well then, I’ll be going first!
Shuuko (thinking): He’s changed, that person.

Page 26
Tanaka: Ah, you’re just in time Kominato… Murao is carrying something really heavy down there. You should go help her.
Kominato: Why do you want me to go? Is this right? Aren’t we rivals?

Page 27
Tanaka: Rivals? Aren’t rivals supposed to be on the same level as each other? Looking at our circumstances, there’s no way I would ever lose to you.
Kominato: You… You… My skin is more elastic than yours, ojisan!
Tanaka: Skin… more elastic…!!
Text: (a great blow)

Page 28
Kou: Eh? Weren’t you going to go advertising? Where’s the sign?
Kominato: Kou. I am going to try harder. Will you also try harder?!
Kou: ? Thanks for the encouragement?
Futaba: Goodbye, Kikuchi-kun.

Page 29
Touma’s friend: Touma?
Touma: It’s at 2:30. I’ll be waiting for you.
Kominato: I won’t lose. I definitely… won’t lose to someone like that…

Page 30
Yuuri: There’s still quite some time until it’s 2:30. Should we go walk around somewhere?
Shuuko: Let’s go find something to eat.
Yuuri: I heard that there are a lot of people who confess during the night festival…
Futaba: Confess…
Yuuri: It seems like everyone’s moods are influenced by the festival’s atmosphere.

Page 31
Shuuko: About that, I don’t want you to worry, but delicate girls like Narumi-san are hard to deal with…
Futaba: …I feel as if I can understand that, just a little.

Page 32
Narumi: Are you looking for someone? (You’ve been looking around all night.)
Kou: No, it’s nothing… There’s a place I want to go.

Page 33
Sign: Gymnasium
Futaba: Ah, great. We’re on time.
Yuuri: There are a lot of people here…
Futaba: This really feels like a cultural festival. How wonderful.

Page 34
Touma: Yoshioka-san.
Futaba: Huh?
Touma: Ah, crap. My microphone is on.

Page 35
Futaba: Yahoo…
People: Ahahahaha… Nice going, Kikuchi---
Narumi: Ah.

Page 36
Narumi: Wait a second, Kou-chan.
Futaba: Kou?
Narumi: I said, Kou-chan…
Kou: Ah, sorry.
Futaba: Huh… “Kou-chan” ?
Text: Blinks

Page 37
Futaba (thinking): She called him… “Kou-chan” …

Page 38
Futaba (thinking): It’s really loud…
Yuuri: It’s pretty good. It feels like he’s a completely different person.

Page 39
Futaba (thinking): I feel as if I really don’t want to see… (her speaking in Kou’s ear.)
Yuuri: Don’t you think Kikuchi-kun is staring at Futaba a lot---?
Text Bubbles: Reaaaally--- I don’t think so--- Who knows---?

Page 40
Futaba (thinking): How does Narumi-san see Kou? How did she see him in middle school? And now?
Shuuko: Delicate girls like Narumi-san are hard to deal with…
Narumi: Ah… It’s still Narumi.
Kou: Right now, I can understand what she’s going through better than anyone.
Futaba (thinking): And from now on?

Page 41
Futaba (thinking): Before things change like that, I need to act. This is such a tricky matter.
Yuuri: I heard that there are a lot of people who confess during the night festival…
Futaba (thinking): Confess. Night festival.

Page 42
Futaba (thinking): The night festival?! But that’s today?! That’s too fast!! But the festival’s atmosphere can help me!! I should do it. But even so, it’s still unlikely… But this is a really important moment!!
Kou: Strange… Is she not feeling well?

Page 43
Kou: Hey…
Futaba: Hm?!

“Because I can see, all that you are.”

Page 2

Kou: Are you coming to the cultural festival the day after tomorrow? Right.

Futaba (thinking): There are a lot of things that I want to ask Kou.

Futaba (thinking): Just now…

Page 3

Futaba (thinking):  He kissed my hair? Am I wrong? He said that he “lost his temper.” Was that because I was talking to Kikuchi-kun?

Futaba (thinking): I really want to ask him. I could only hear a little bit of the person on the other end of the line.

Kou: Oh well then – Come over and watch your safety? If there’s anything you don’t know then call me again. Okay. Then it’s settled.

Futaba (thinking): My good mood was so easily destroyed. That’s why on the way home, I only talked about some meaningless things. I just only wanted to go through the motions. Maybe that was extremely stupid of me.

Page 5

Futaba: …Well bye then.

Kou: Bye.

Futaba (thinking):  But in the moment when I heard the voice on the phone, I suddenly saw the bond between Kou and that person. And I disliked that.

Futaba (thinking): Right now I must be the most narrow-minded person in the whole world…

Page 6

Kou: …

Phone: beep beep beep beep beep

Voice: The number that you have called is not in the area or has already been disconnected ---

Kou (thinking): It won’t go through--- Idiot.

Kominato: Oh.

Page 7

Kominato: You’re finally back.

Kou: Kominato? Why are you here?

Kominato: Nothing really. I wanted to call before I came over, but my phone’s battery ran out. And then even though I came, I didn’t know when you would come home. I was going to go home myself, but it looks like I was unsuccessful. (It’s just like that. Please let me charge my phone too.)

Kou: …I know.

Kominato: Huh? What?

Kou: Your phone wasn’t connecting just now.

Page 8

Kominato: I can’t take it. This must be telepathy. Ah, if that’s the case, then I can sense something else. Chips! You want to eat them, right?!

Kou: Really? Pizza-flavored?

Kominato: Eh? Didn’t you want French gravy-flavored chips?

Kou: Right now I feel more like pizza-flavored. (But French gravy-flavored chips are always welcome.)

Text: Telepathy failed.

Page 9

Kominato: Kou, even if you didn’t overprotect her like that, there shouldn’t be any problems right? I can understand wanting to do something for someone in the same circumstances. But I think establishing new relationships at a new school would be  good for her. Don’t you agree?

Kou: Ah--- you’re right.

Kominato: Then you shouldn’t take on so much for her.

Page 10

Kou: Yeah, but until she can do that and until she can adjust to her new environment, there’s no way I can just abandon her. At this time, I think it’s best for someone to be there for her.

Kominato: So it’s like that. Kou, you

Page 11

Kominato: must’ve been in a lot of pain before. We should’ve met earlier. If that was the case ---

Page 12

Kominato: I would’ve been there for you at the very start. (Text: Very serious.)

Kou: Cat…

Kominato: Huh?

Kou: I’d like to show it to you? (Kou is trying his best to be a good host.)

Kominato: Ah, let me see. Let me see---

Page 13

Kou: Wait a second. I’ll bring it over.

Kominato: Okay---

Kominato (thinking): Hm… But that story just now and how annoyed Kou was at school today.

Kou (flashback): You’re so noisy!

Kominato (thinking): I don’t think there’s much of a connection.

Text on box: Class 1-3. Tanaka Kou.

Page 14

Kominato (thinking): Is this stuff from middle school? Alto flute, how nostalgic!!

Kominato: And there’s also his notebook from when he was still Tanaka. Oh--- it’s quite neat. Is there anything strange written here?

Kou: I brought it.

Kominato: Kou… You…

Text on the notebook: Yoshioka Futaba

Page 15

Text: Ripping it away

Kominato: Yoshioka…

Kou: That was from before!

Kominato: You liked her before? Yoshioka?

Page 16

Kominato: And now? What about now? Do you like her?

Kou: You’re quite annoying.

Kominato: Yaaaa ---

Text: Kicking about

Page 17

Kominato: Isn’t it great though – you should be together! Confess. Attack, attack. She doesn’t have a boyfriend anyway.

Kou: But I don’t feel this is the right time to do something like that. (Probably.)

Kominato: What?

Kou: Like the story about my friend that I told you just now…

Kominato: Ha? But that’s irrelevant. That matter is that! This matter is this! Hee--- Yoshioka. Hee---

Kominato: That friend I was just talking about sent a text. Sorry, I have to step out for a moment. Ah, right. The time. I think during the day I should be in the classroom.

Page 18

Kominato (thinking): The voice… is quite high. Ah… that friend is…

Kou: Okay, so it’s settled.

Kominato: Kou. It won’t work, this sort of thing. You shouldn’t worry so much about other people.

Page 19

Kominato (thinking): What an idiot, that Kou.

Kou (flashback): It’s no problem. I’ll make sure that the thing you’re thinking about won’t happen.

Kominato (thinking): Why can’t you understand. It’s a mess no matter how I think about it… this sort of thing. What an idiot.

Page 20

Small text: Where should I put this?

Sorry, could you move over a bit.

Class reps are preparing for the night festival ---

Page 21

Futaba (thinking): Hu… I’m so tired. I can finally rest for a while. Even though we’re both responsible for helping with the night festival preparations, I didn’t see Kou anywhere. Meh, even if I did see him I wouldn’t know what to say.

Page 22

Futaba (thinking): The cultural festival is tomorrow. That person on the phone will come here tomorrow… I’m a little scared. Because that voice was ---

Touma: What’s wrong?

Page 23

Touma: Why do you look so glum?

Futaba: Ah, Kikuchi-kun. Ah…hm, I feel like there are a lot of things I don’t understand…

Touma: Things you don’t understand?

Futaba: That… Can I ask you a question that’s a little bit strange?

Touma: Hmm? (What is it?)

Futaba: You… guys.

Touma: Hmm?

Futaba: …Are you able to, with a girl that you have no feelings for,

Page 24

Futaba: kiss?

Touma: Ah, Yoshioka-san… Were you kissed?

Futaba: No! No! I wasn’t! (I wasn’t!)

Touma (thinking): She hasn’t been kissed…!

Futaba: But, I just wanted to ask, are guys able to do stuff like that.

Page 25

Touma: To tell the truth, there are a lot of guys who are able to kiss just because they think it’s fun or if the situation called for it. Even if the other person wasn’t someone they liked.

Futaba (thinking): Even if it wasn’t someone they liked…

Futaba: So it’s like that.

Touma: Ah! But not all guys are like that! There are a lot of guys who consider a kiss meaningless if it isn’t with someone they like. I’m one of them.

Page 26

Futaba: That’s right… there are people who can and people who can’t. Of course. Sorry I asked you such a pointless question. Forget it.

Touma (thinking): I didn’t manage to get my point across –

Futaba (thinking): Probably Kou only did it because the situation called for it. Even if he said that he “just lost his temper,” maybe he was feeling tired because of something else.

Page 27

Futaba: Wuuaaaah. So annoying--- Really--- Even if I was determined to try hard, I became weak as soon as I hit an obstacle. I haven’t grown up at all ---

Touma (thinking): Her hair dangling there. It’s really cute.

Futaba: I’m still exactly the same as I was before. I haven’t changed at all…

Page 28

Touma: You just haven’t noticed it yourself. You’re definitely changing bit by bit.

Futaba: Is… that… so…

Touma: If you’re strong at one point, and weak at another, aren’t you be able to look at things from different points of view?

Page 29

Touma: Shouldn’t changes be born during these sorts of pivots?  If Yoshioka-san is pivoting from strong to weak, then you must be changing slowly. Everyone else is doing the same, changing bit by bit.

Page 30

Touma: If you want to change, then just keep pivoting. If you pivot a lot, then maybe you’ll discover something new that you never noticed before.

Page 31

Futaba: Something new…?

Touma: Yes.

Futaba: Right… You’re right. Pivots are good! I feel like I’ve been encouraged to see that I’m not useless. I feel better now. Thank you.

Touma: ….

Futaba: I’ll be going back then. Bye-bye.

Page 32

Touma (thinking): (I didn’t manage to get my point across again.) Looks like if I want to access her heart, I need to be a bit more direct… The guy who almost kissed Yoshioka-san… (Kou, was it.) Does that guy like Yoshioka-san as well.

Page 33

Touma (thinking): Pivot some more. Pivot even more and start to like me.

Page 34

Girl: We’re almost done over here. You can go back to the classroom by yourself.

Futaba: Okay.

Futaba (thinking): Kou is already back. Ah… I really do like him…

Futaba (thinking): Sometimes strong, sometimes weak.

Page 35

Futaba (thinking): Maybe everybody is really like that. Yuuri, Shuuko, Kominato-kun, and everyone else in our class are all like that. We’re all pivoting.

Futaba (thinking): Slowly, bit by bit, maturing into adults.

Page 36

Futaba (thinking): Like that. Like that.

Futaba: Okay. Where should I go help?

Kominato: Ah… Ah! Yoshioka! Kou is looking for you!

Futaba: Huh? Really? What is it?

Page 37

Futaba: Kou, what is it?

Kou: ? (What? What?)

Kominato: That matter is that matter! This matter is this matter!!

Page 38

Kou (thinking): That guy…

Futaba: Huh? I guess you weren’t looking for me?

Kou: No. I called you here. I want to nail this. You go hold it down over there.

Futaba: Understood!

Kou: Ah, wait a second.

Page 39

Kou: Wear these or you’ll get splinters.

Futaba: Thanks.

Futaba (thinking): That’s right. I haven’t even confessed. Nothing’s set in stone yet. Maybe tomorrow, I’ll go back to being strong.

Page 40

Futaba (thinking): That would be great.

Kominato: Welcome--- Home--- Master----

Page 41

Kou: Kominato, you should at least wear some tights. That looks disgusting.

Kominato: (No way!) I shaved my legs so they’re super-smooth. I don’t need to wear them.

Bubbles:  Doesn’t Murao-san look super-handsome? Makita-san also looks cute.

Futaba (thinking): It’s quite lively here…

Page 42

Futaba (thinking): When will the person on the phone arrive? They should be here soon. As expected, I’m not able to calm down. My heart is pounding.

Kou: Ah, you didn’t get lost on the way here?

Page 43

Phone-chan: No, I didn’t get lost---

Bubble: Hey, who’s that---? Someone Mabuchi-kun knows?

Phone-chan: Speaking of which, your getup is pretty out there --- Ahaha, how disgusting.

Kou: Okay, okay. Come in.

Page 44

Phone-chan: Okay, then--- I’m coming in.

Futaba (thinking): This person is the girl on the phone…

Title
“Where will it take you? Wind, stop blowing”

Page 1

Person on phone: How should I put it. Speaking of “that person,” Kou is closer to her than we are. If you can help her.

Kou: I understand. But do you guys at least still speak on the phone?

Page 2

Person on phone: We talk now and then just about pretty mundane things. To tell the truth, we don’t really know what to say… That’s why…

Kou (thinking): I know.

Kou: What is it. Didn’t you eat just now?

Page 3

Kou: Ah. You really are so soft ---

Kominato: It’s true. Our class’s number one choice is “Gender-flipped butler-maid café.”

Page 4

Kominato: But since only three classes per grade are allowed to sell food and drink, we don’t know if we’ll get permission.

Futaba: How is it decided?

Kominato: If there’s more than three then there’ll be a lottery. I guess that’s all we need to explain up front?

Yuuri: Ah, there’s something else. It was said that the class officers will be responsible for the preparations for the night festival. There’s a meeting today so we’ll be relying on you.

Text pointing to Futaba: Was listening.

Text pointing to Kou: Of course he wasn’t listening.

Page 5

Kou: Isn’t this system strange though? Why do the class officers have to do it --- What’s the point of having 3 activity representatives?

Futaba: Okay, okay. It’ll be fun, I know it.

Kou: Nonsense.

Futaba: Ah. Kikuchi-kun.

Page 6

Futaba: Kikuchi-kun is a class officer? (I never noticed it.)

Touma: Our previous class officer transferred, so it’s up to me now.

Female Rep: Because nobody else wanted to do it. Kikuchi-kun volunteering is such a big help.

Futaba: Oh--- A volunteer. You’re taking it so seriously--- (Ah, but I was a volunteer too.)

Page 7

Touma (thinking): Even though my motives are completely impure.

Touma: I’m not serious at all, really.

Futaba: You’re so humble sometimes ---

Kou: Hello ---

Futaba: Ah, you want to sit over there?

Page 8

Futaba (thinking): I can be with Kou for a while like this. I’m so happy.

Futaba: Ahaha, have your scratches increased? Is it the cat?

Kou: It’s suddenly started to bite. There, at the base between my fingers. (See.)

Futaba (thinking): Kou is still the same.

Futaba: That’s right.

Futaba (thinking): Always texting and calling now and then. I’ve even memorized the ringtone for when a text arrives.

Page 9

Person: Let’s rest for a while.

Other Person (?): This maid costume. I want to make Makita-chan wear it. (Really).

Person: Yeah, yeah.

Other Person: Isn’t that right?

Person: Yes, but I’m part of group four.

Yet Another Person: Hey, what are you taking about?

Person: Ah, we’re talking about this maid costume ---

Page 10

Futaba (thinking): Kou. He’s texting again.

Page 11

Person: I say – Mabuchi is texting again? Is it a girlfriend?

Kou: No.

Person: How is it not? Mabuchi, what are your circumstances in that area?

Kou: What?

Person: Are there no girls that you like?

Kou: What---? I don’t care about stuff like that.

Person: What? Is she in our class?! Really!

Page 12

Kou: I said no.

Touma: Ah, Yoshioka-san.

Futaba: Oh, Kikuchi-kun. (Did he go out to buy stuff?)

Touma: It looks like you’re eating some pretty delicious stuff.

Futaba: Want some?

Touma: Ah, thanks.

Page 13

Touma: Thanks for your hospitality. Bye then.

Futaba: …….. Ah. Bye.

Futaba (thinking): I thought he would just take it with his hand. That scared me. But, that’s right. He’s busy carrying things with both his hands. It’s pretty common for young people to give gifts to each other like this, right. (Yep, yep.)

Page 14

Touma’s friend: Hey, Touma. If you’re going to blush that much then it’s best not to do stuff like that. I’ll feel disgraced as well.

Touma: I’m sorry!

Person: Hey, are you listening? She’s definitely in our class, right? Who is it? If it’s needed, I can help you ---

Kou: You’re so noisy!

Page 15

Kou (thinking): Oh, crap.

Kou: Ah, sorry about that.

Person: Ah, hmm, I’ll stop bothering you. I’m sorry as well. Hahaha.

Kominato: Ahaha, Kou is unexpectedly quite childlike, being all bashful about questions like these.

Page 16

Kominato: The girl I like ---

Person: That’s enough, Kominato. I know who she is even if you don’t say so!

Other Person: Hey, this isn’t good. Look at this.

Person: Wow, it’s even more nauseating than I thought.

Another Person: What will we do about all that leg hair?

Kominato: What’s wrong. This isn’t your style. You’re able to avoid people like that quite easily.

Kou: Yeah ---

Page 17

Kominato: Well, when you’re in a bad mood I’m always willing to listen.

Kou: Kominato. Thanks.

Kominato: Oh.

Page 18

Text: Class officers’ preparation work for the night festival.

Person: Let’s wrap this up for today. Everyone’s worked hard.

Page 19

Futaba (thinking): Kou didn’t come back after all. He left for somewhere in the middle of the preparations. And never came back. Was he just being lazy, or is it because something happened with the person on the cell.

Page 20

Futaba: Wow, it’s so dark outside.

Futaba (thinking): Even though this is clearly just the classroom, it feels like it’s somewhere completely different. I feel a little excited, and a little worried. (People outside can’t see me.)

Page 21

Futaba (thinking): Hahaha, a mirror… can’t find one. Ah, I can see my reflection on the windowpane. (What’s it like? What’s it like?) It doesn’t suit me.

Page 22

Futaba (thinking): Eh, isn’t that Kou’s bag? That’s clearly his pencil box. So he’s still at school… I need to change immediately! If Kou sees me in this, who knows what he’ll say…

Page 23

Touma: Sorry. I saw the light on, so I wanted to see if there was still someone here.

Futaba: Ah, sorry. (Why am I apologizing?)

Touma: Yoshioka-san, will you wear that during the festival?

Touma (thinking): I would definitely show up.

Page 24

Futaba: No, definitely not! All the girls will be dressed as butlers. I just wanted to know what I looked like, so I tried it on. And it’s clearly right that I won’t wear this!!

Touma: ? Why?

Futaba: You’re asking why… Look at this. My personality doesn’t suit something as light as this. It’s suited for someone more feminine than me…

Page 25

Futaba: There’s not much difference between my wearing this and the guys playing to the crowd.

Touma: How is Yoshioka-san not like a girl? You seem plenty feminine to me.

Futaba: Eh, is that so --- What are you saying? Feminine people are much more mature and adorable, like rabbits. (Nobody would say that I’m like that ---)

Page 26

Touma: I was talking about your heart! Maybe it’s because I have two older sisters that I don’t really have any delusions about girls. But I think you’re very feminine.

Page 27

Futaba: Haha… thank you.

Touma: Aha.

Kou: Sorry for disturbing you, can I come in?

Futaba: Kou.

Page 28

Futaba: Where did you go after leaving your duties?

Touma: I’ll be going then. You’ve worked hard.

Futaba: Ah, you too ---

Page 29

Futaba (thinking): Wow. ---Eh, he’s not saying anything? (He’s going to ignore what I’m wearing?)

Kou: What are you wearing?

Futaba (thinking): So he’s finally going to mock it. (So slow!)

Futaba: Ah, I just wanted to try it on. What do you think? Hmm?  <3 (That is what I’m supposed to say, right…)

Page 30

Kou: Ha---? It doesn’t suit you.

Futaba (thinking): After I’ve made myself up, this is the second time he tells me that it doesn’t suit me… (But I already knew that so I can’t really disagree with him…)

Kou: Don’t act all foolish just because that kid is treating you like a girl. That’s terrible.

Page 31

Kou: And aren’t you good at dealing with guys? You’re always chatting and laughing with that guy as if you didn’t have a care in the world. Besides, if you want to flirt then you should go do it somewhere else. So stupid. … --Eh, I went too far just now.

Page 32

Kou: I take it all back!

Page 33

Kou: I’m sorry. I was… wrong just now, really. It was because I couldn’t control my temper. Sorry.

Futaba (thinking): I really wasn’t crying.

Page 34

Futaba (thinking): I’m just going to punish you a little.

Kou: I’m sorry, Yoshioka…san. Yoshioka-sama.

Futaba (thinking): It’s Yoshioka-sama now… Crap, I’m going to laugh now.

Kou: Hey, I’m telling the truth. Don’t cry.

Page 35

Kou: Really --- Why did I have to say stuff like that. Yoshioka --- I’m sorry. Don’t cry.

Futaba (thinking): Should I be satisfied with this, or not?

Page 36

Futaba (thinking): Eh, just now.

Kou: I really am sorry.

Futaba: Kou…

Page 37

Kou: …You’re not crying.

Futaba: Kou. What were you doing… just now?

Page 38

Kou: Yoshioka.

Page 39

Futaba (thinking): Ah, it’s that sound ---

Kou: Ahaha

Futaba (thinking): Eh, why is he laughing?

Page 40

Kou: So it’s true. We’re almost at that point.

Futaba (thinking): What? I don’t understand. What does he mean?

Page 41

Kou: Hello.

Futaba (thinking): And then Kou picked up the phone. I could vaguely hear the voice on the other end of the line.

Ch 17.
Page 1

Kou: Ah! That was close – I just made it to class.

Teacher: Okay students, class is starting.

Page 2

Futaba (thinking): His hair is all messed up.

Futaba: Did you get up late?

Kou: I went to go see the cat. Then, time just seemed to go by. (I can’t help it when it comes to cats.)

Futaba: You really do dote on that cat.

Kou: After I decided to treasure it, of course I would treat it well.

Futaba (thinking): Kou’s changed a bit from before. It’s a good kind of change…

Page 3

Futaba (thinking): …but even so

Futaba: Can I go with you next time?

Kou: Ah- Why don’t we all go together?

Futaba: Okay.

Futaba (thinking): Kou said once before that he didn’t have anything that he treasured. But now he not only treasures that cat, he also thinks of everyone else. This is a good kind of change. But why do I feel that the distance between us has reverted back to the way it was in the beginning?

Teacher: Next month is the cultural festival that everyone’s been eagerly waiting for –

Page 4

Futaba (thinking): To Kou, was that just a spur of the moment kind of thing --- Is that how it was… But come to think of it, Kou has changed in another way as well. Whenever there’s a break in between classes, he’s always flipping open his phone to check for text messages.

Teacher: Activity representatives need to stay and meet after school.

Page 5

Futaba (thinking): He doesn’t even look over here at me. His profile right now, I somehow think it’s so handsome. …Strange. I’m so strange. I shouldn’t be.

Yuuri: Mabuchi-kun always seems to be playing with his phone lately.

Page 6

Futaba: … Ah, that does seem to be the case. Oh, Yuuri your bento looks so good… Ah… chocolate…

Yuuri: What are you afraid of? (on the topic of Mabuchi) Didn’t I say that there shouldn’t be any worries between us.

Futaba: I wasn’t trying to control my own actions.

Page 7

Futaba: But, it turns out that it really is kind of hard to talk about Kou to Yuuri…

Yuuri: Do you think that I’m kind of pitiful because I got rejected? Are you pitying me?

Futaba: No, it’s not like that! It’s not like that… It’s just that, if I talk to Yuuri about Kou, then Yuuri would definitely think long and hard about it, and then definitely try to push and help me.

Page 8

Futaba: Since I want to be forgiven, I don’t want Yuuri to do that.

Yuuri: If that’s the case, then you should definitely do it. Talking to me about Mabuchi-kun isn’t just for Futaba, it’s for me too.

Page 9

Yuuri: That’s because if I speak to Futaba about Mabuchi-kun, then I feel like I’m “really open-minded” about it and it’s relaxing. Of course I still have to push myself to do it, but just let me feel superior for a while!

Futaba: Yuu…

Shuuko: Can I hug you tight?

Yuuri: Wow, so cool

Futaba: Me too

Page 10

Futaba: How can I say it. With Kou, it’s hard to figure out what he’s thinking.

Yuuri: Right, right. What about Tanaka-sensei?

Shuuko: Sensei’s the same. He clearly doesn’t treat me like a possible romantic partner. But sometimes he’s very sly.

Yuuri: Seems like only Kominato’s easy to understand!

Shuuko: Kominato’s the same. He’s never really said anything face-to-face. With that type, you don’t know what he’s thinking of.

Page 11

Someone: So men are unexpectedly hard to understand…?

Teacher: Class is dismissed.

Page 12
Futaba (thinking): In any case, I want to first determine exactly what the distance between us is right now.
Kou: What is it.
Futaba: Everyone’s busy today, so I’m a bit bored. Do you want to go hang out somewhere?
Kou: Eh- I’m a bit sleepy today.
Futaba: It can count as making up for that festival that we didn’t go to.
Kou: Ah, so that can be made up with just this? (What)
Futaba: Huh

Page 13
Futaba: Wait just a second! We should do something special to make up for the festival. So just going out together is fine for today!
Kou: …I was joking. Okay, that’s fine for today. I’m getting hungry too. Let’s go.
Futaba (thinking): Success! Wonderful! But Kou’s attitude towards me really isn’t very clear.

Page 14
Text Box: What’s so special about Kou?
Guy: So what to do about our class officer.
Other Guy: Yeah, who would’ve predicted that he would transfer. Maybe Touma should do it? Become class officer.
Touma: Ai—I’m not interested. Don’t push things onto other people.
Guy: Really? But I think it’s unexpectedly suitable for you.

Page 15
Guy: How nice, a date after school – (I want one too)
Other guy: Hey, that girl. Isn’t she the one that Touma went to talk to during that festival.
Guy: She has a boyfriend Touma!
Touma: But I didn’t go talk to her about that back then.

Page 16

Guy: That’s right. I don’t think Touma is compatible with a tough girl like that.

Touma: She’s not that tough. Since you clearly don’t know anything about her, shouldn’t you just stay quiet?

Page 17

Futaba: Eh. Kou, is just that drink enough? Didn’t you say that you were hungry?

Kou: Ah?

Futaba (thinking): So is it that “being hungry” was

Page 18

Futaba (thinking): just an excuse. If that’s the case, then I feel a bit happier. No no no, with something as confusing as this, there’s no way I’d be happy. Ah, is Kou asleep? He did say that he wanted to sleep.

Futaba: Hey--..

Page 19

Futaba (thinking): Wow, so cute. Waking him up would be a shame. Damn it – I like him so much that it seems like my brain has gone strange!! What should I do, who’ll come save me.

Page 20

Futaba (thinking): Aha, he got scratched by the cat. If I try to imagine that, it’s actually pretty funny. Ah… still sleepy?

Page 21

No text

Page 22

Futaba (thinking): Awake… Is he awake?

Kou: …your nails are so tiny!

Futaba: They’re not tiny. They’re normal.

Page 23

Kou: I’m going to the bathroom.

Futaba (thinking): What, looking like a little demon. My nails are painted a dark color, great!!

Guy: Hey – did you see that just now ~~~~ So great, so great.

Touma: That’s enough! Didn’t you want to go to the convenience store?

Futaba (thinking): My hair looks good too! No problem!

Page 24

Futaba: Ah, you’re back.

Kou: Yeah. Say something.

Futaba: Umm, well in that case, even if I said it again… Well… What did you go to Nagasaki for? (Can I ask?)

Kou: A classmate of mine from Nagasaki lost his grandfather. I went to the funeral.

Page 25

Futaba: Ah, so it’s like that.

Kou: His grandfather and my mother were in the hospital at the same time. So I guess I was pretty familiar with him. His grandfather went through a lot of surgeries. I’m really worried about their situation.

Futaba: So that’s the reason why you’ve been texting so much lately…

Kou: Yes.

Page 26

Kou: He’s moved somewhere close to here recently. When the second term starts, he’ll be starting at a new school. It’s not a good situation. I know that feeling better than anyone.

Futaba (thinking): Why is it that, when I clearly know the reason why he’s been texting… Ah, so it’s like that.

Page 27

Futaba (thinking): This is someplace where I can’t intrude. There must be a lot of things that that person also can’t talk about. There are also a lot of things that can only be said to Kou.

Kou: Oh, this is a call from that guy I was just talking about. Can I pick up?

Futaba: Yeah.

Kou: What is it?

Page 28

Kou: Ah… right. Now isn’t a good time. I’m with a friend.

Futaba: It’s no problem. If something’s up then you should go.

Kou: No, but…

Futaba: It’s really no problem! Go!

Kou: Okay. (Sorry then.)

Page 29

Futaba: That’s right. That person is in a really difficult situation. There isn’t anything wrong with Kou helping him. (It’s actually good of him.) But it makes me feel so lonely. I’m really not open-minded enough.

Page 30

Touma (thinking): Ah. (sound effect of Futaba smacking her head against the table here) Eh?! (How scary.)

Touma: Sorry, I need to go.

Guy: What, what is it?

Other guy: Touma?

Page 31

Guy: What happened?

Other guy: He went to the store we just left.

Guy: What!?

Other guy: Is Touma really going to make a move?

Guy (blushing): Wow

Page 32

Futaba (thinking): I feel as if the distance between Kou and me has reverted back to its original state, because Kou has other things to worry about. Now that I think about it, I really should’ve said it that night. If the distance between us became 0, even if something like this happened, I’d probably feel differently about it. “You had a look of determination just now. What did you want to say?”

Page 33

Touma: Yoshi…

Futaba: WHY!!

Touma; Waa

Futaba: Ah, Kikuchi-kun.

Touma: What, what is it?

Page 34

Touma: I saw that your boyfriend just left. Did you have an argument?

Futaba: Eh? No, he’s not my boyfriend. But did it look like he was?

Touma: Oh, so you’re not in a relationship?

Futaba: Hmm, I feel like we are pretty close. We’re class officers together –

Touma: Oh, so it’s like that.

Page 35

Touma: Then what happened? You seem to be feeling pretty low.

Futaba: No, I’m fine now. I was just thinking “if I had done that at that time.” But thinking about that sort of thing isn’t as good as figuring out how to fix it.

Page 36

Futaba: It’s no big deal, it’s no big deal.

Futaba (thinking): But it really is a big deal… and I’m just saying that out loud for myself.

Touma (thinking): This person is great…

Page 37

Kou: Yeah, it’s me. Sorry, but today…

Page 38

Kou: Since my friend and I already made arrangements, then that comes first. Sorry.

Touma: Ah, Yoshioka-san.

Page 39

Touma: Your bangs are sticking up.

Futaba: Really?

Touma: Haha, just a little bit!

Futaba: Oh, that’s fine. They’re just bangs. (Thank you)

Page 40

Futaba: What is it, Kikuchi-kun?

Touma: Ah… nothing.

Page 41

Kou: It’s that guy again. …What now.

Touma (thinking): I really do want to know this person’s feelings.

Page 42

Kou: I really don’t understand women.

Text: It’s no problem. If the distance between us has increased, then I will definitely close it again.

This isn’t the place to discuss my slowness with the scanlation, I’ll do that over at le blog laterish. I just want to say that I’m not offended by the early scanlations from the Chinese scans, that would be ridiculous and please don’t assume that of me ever. I’m supremely immature, but I’m not childish. ...Anymore. My mental age is like 12 now, I’m practically a grown-up. But yeah, basically I’ve been grossly neglecting my Japanese the last few weeks, so reading this chapter I was all ...what language is this. I can’t read this. And wait. Are they NOT speaking Tokyo Japanese? Somehow they just sound different from before. But I thought... What. Where do you live then, Futababy? How have I never thought of this before. Oh no. I’m rambling about something insignificant. I’m sorry. I don’t MEAN to waste your time. It’s entirely accidental.

I’m actually here to do that thing where I retell the events of the chapter and then proceed to have opinions about everything and make stupid jokes. Though I’m writing this in the early morning and I haven’t slept, okay. I have insomnia because of stress. I can’t form coherent thoughts. Read at own risk. And this is not really a summary at all, it’s just my (long-winded) thoughts on the chapter, kind of like last time. Except worse.

So, my women and men, the chapter starts off cutely, as you know, because you’ve read it already, but after the promising opening it dips into a not-very-promising ending. Time to shake fist in mangaka’s general direction? I think so.

Firstly, though, the cover. Ooo, dark forces looming on either side? What up with the scary bushes, Sakisaka-sensei? Are you trying to tell us something? The pink glowing text says something confusing. Man, I don’t know Japanese anymore. “Just a bit more, and we’ll draw near without passing each other by.” ...Eh. Man, I don’t know English either. What am I doing here. Someone fire me.

Kou doesn’t actually say, “Let’s go together this time.” as it says in the already done scanlations (I read them, of course, and they’re well-done, but they’re also translated from Chinese so of course there will be discrepancies. Nothing that’s very important, though, so yay for early scans with good translations! Long may they continue. I’m sorry I can’t contribute to earliness in any way anymore haha sadface). I think I’ll translate it as, “Let’s actually go this time?” The “together” part is clearly implied.

So Kou asks Futaba on a date and they blush and bicker and nearly consummate their love on the street. Cough okay no. But hello, how can you stand right up in each others personal space and NOT realize you’re mutually in love huh. HUH.

Okay, so I want to just translate the convo they have after Kou says he wants to see Futaba in a yukata and then tries to say goodbye. Because it’s fun. It goes like this:

Kou: ‘Kay... I’m this way, so... yeah.

Kou: I mean. I guess you already knew that.

Futaba: ...Yeah.

~AWKWARDNESS~

Kou: So. See you later then.

Futaba: Wait!

Futaba: Stay a bit longer.

Kou: ...Why?

Futaba: ...I don’t feel like going home yet.

(Futaba: Woah, what am I saying?)

Futaba: I mean, ‘cause... we were having fun? (loose interpretation)

Kou pulls her closer and talks to the top of her head like a... tall person.

Kou: I did tell you, right? // You don’t know what might happen if you keep letting your guard down around guys.

Futaba: But you...

Futaba: ...won’t do anything, will you?

Kou: You can’t be sure of that?

Kou: Even if it’s me.

Futaba: ...Well,

Futaba: maybe I’m not really scared...

Futaba: ...if it’s you.

...They look at each other...

Interlude!

Sha la la la la la
Don't be scared
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha la la la la la
Don't stop now
Don't try to hide it how
You want to kiss the girl
Sha la la la la la
Float along
And listen to the song
The song (Bikkuri) say kiss the girl--

Kou: Okay, woah.

Kou: Not good.

Kou: Shit.

Kou: I’ll take you home.

Kou: Let’s go.

I guess that song never works.

Kou calls and cancels the date later because he didn’t kiss the girl and has thus turned back into a merman and must now return to his sea of depression. Futaba is disappointed, and then Kou is absent the rest of the summer without telling anyone what’s going on, that BRICK. Seriously, Sakisaka. WHAT NOW. Enough Kou mysteries. Enough! I thought we were past this. You let us believe we were past this. You TROLL. Make a Kominato mystery, if you MUST be mysterious. Geez.

I guess maybe she’s trying to give GG-kun more of a “chance”? Because as things were going, he was losing his ability to affect the plot at all. But... Ahh, must resist the blushing boy! The NICE, considerate, non-secretive boy! He is predestined to fail. Don’t board a sinking ship. Resisssst.

Okay, so Kou is all smiley and stuff when they meet again after summer, but Futaba thinks his smile is a bit off. He says he’s been back in Nagasaki, but he doesn’t say why (he was not helping out at a store btw, he doesn’t say that. 100% sure). He says he had to work extra at his part-time job when he came back, so he’s been back for a while, but he’s been working.

And aw, he’s taking care of the stray cat now! Slightly redeeming. Kominato offers to name it for him hahah, but Kou’s like, “No way. I’d remember you every time I say its name. That’d be gross.”

Y’know, Kou treats Kominato and Futaba kinda similarly... He’s got that rather typical shoujo male’s instinct to insult all that he likes. Must be so tiring to be tsundere.

I’m sure Kou has a good reason to act like he is, but dang if it isn’t hard to remember that, when he’s been off to Nagasaki and acquired MORE SECRETS ajsdnøkjsofc.

Anyway, Futaba runs into GG-kun a bit later... Or Kikuchi Touma. Like. Chrysanthemum-patch Winter-horse. Haha. Sorry, just drawing stupid meaning from the kanji. Actually, I wonder if the winter thing is slightly symbolic? Like, Futaba’s name means bud/sprout, which is all spring and new beginnings and it fits her, right? And Kou’s name means sparkling water. Yunno, like rain in sunlight or something? XD (What no that’s a rainbow.)

Bud + rain + light = flower.

Bud + winter = DEATH.

Yeah bro. You SO don’t stand a chance. I have (over-)ANALYZED your chances away. I’m sorry. I like you very, very much. But don’t. Don’t do that. Don’t witness that Futaba clearly likes Kou and THEN start to maybe like her, you IDIOT.

I do appreciate the adorableness, though. So I guess I forgive you. I mean, 1. ADORABLE that he tries to make her feel better by babbling at her, 2. ADORABLE that he blushes when she sees through him and then it turns out he blushes really easily and is self-conscious about it which is awhaw so much fun. I ship him with a girl/boy who’ll make it her/his mission to make him blush all the time. That is what I would do. 3. SUPER BLUSH ON LAST PAGE. BAM.

He seems quick enough, since he picks up on the something between Futaba and Kou, but then he’s all, HM SHE’S SPESHULERER THAN I THOUGHT, and meh. I don’t feel like watching him hopelessly vie for her attention, because he deserves her attention, being this genuinely nice guy (so rare in shoujo), but he won’t get it because, well, Kou. (And Kou deserves to be happy, so GG-kun... don’t interfere. Too much. I suppose you must interfere a little, or you wouldn’t exist, but don’t get annoying.)

I hope Kou talks to Futaba about what’s going on without her having to tackle him to the ground again. That’d be refreshing. Futaba has run after him a lot. Time to change things up a bit. And it would be a big step forward for him. Character growth over character regression, please.

Oh, I almost forgot to say yay Futaba-Yuuri-Murao friendship! Yay honesty! Yay head-patting!

Now waiting for next chapter(s) to rectify the Kou situation. Knowing Sakisaka, it will most likely make sense and restore love to all the right places and the Kou-frustration shall fade. Probably.

AHR Chapter 15 [Scans] + Bukkuri's Rambling <3~

3/13/2012

Those pesky Chinese stole my thunder this month! And all the brilliant people who knows Chinese stole my lightning! I am a storm cloud with nothing but rain. I decided there’s no point in a summary, since y’know... you already know what happens. But since a fair number asked me to write something anyway (you’re just feeding my ego, aren’t you... Very suspicious. What are your motives), here is a ~*~review~*~. I mean. Like. I do still possess that special, bleak charm of a quietly weeping blob of grey in the sky after a major storm has passed. Everyone loves that last rain cloud blocking the sunlight. I know. I know people. I know feelings.

But still, I’m going to keep it... short? Or... Shorter than normal? By like a paragraph or two, maybe. Let’s focus on the big moments, signs of character growth, the funny, the cute and hope for the future!

Yuuri shows up in a yukata for the fireworks, even though Futaba and Murao thought they all agreed not to wear one. I suppose this is Yuuri’s idea of working hard for love, which is... fine. I mean, let her give it a good go the only way she knows how, and then she can give up. XD I’d really like to see her understanding of affection deepen a little though. People don’t fall in love with anyone just as long as they’re sufficiently pretty. But then I guess this particular one-sided love affair is exactly what she needs to realize that, so I have a feeling Yuuri will keep improving, rather than regress into a standard green monster messing with the OTP. And her thoughts when she confesses are pretty admirable, actually...

...Okay, obviously this review, or analysis, or... rant... will have no structure. I’ll just finish talking about Yuuri for now.

So, uhm, spoiler, Yuuri confesses to Kou. Meaning! What I said I hoped for at the end of last chapter actually happened! ‘Cause I’d venture to call this the climax to the Yuuri situation. She sinks a little low in the first half of the chapter, wearing the yukata without saying anything even though she knew the other two believed they’d all agreed not to (kind of sneaky but hardly evil), trying to convince herself she can be better than Futaba and that she’s got just as much of a chance as her in the battle for Kou’s heart (she’s clearly delusional, but I still like a girl who tries to pep-talk herself instead of whining about her various disadvantages. Self-confidence is good, but it’d be nice if she could manage to put herself high without pulling others (Futaba) down, because that’s basically doing the same thing as the girls who used to freeze her out).

As the chapter progresses, Yuuri finally comes to accept that Kou’s just not that into her. Yeah, Yuuri. It was about time you accepted that. (She was kind of treading a fine line between trying-to-be-confident and mildly-obnoxious up until then.) But instead of bowing out with her pride still intact, only to smolder jealously on the sideline from now on, she decides to tell Kou she likes him, even though she knows she doesn’t stand a chance. That’s pretty cool. I could never do that. She even thinks that she has to confess so she won’t end up becoming someone who does something disgusting out of jealousy later, so I choose to believe that means this is as far as Yuuri will go, and that the love triangle is now mostly resolved.

…Pleasepleasepleaslpleapasplesdsks.

Anyway, Kou rejects her, of course. The surprised look on his face when she says she likes him is really cute, though. Awhaw. Haw. And Yuuri’s confession face is really cute too.

But then just as Yuuri is about to ask if Kou likes Futaba, Futaba herself comes to interrupt. Futabaaa! Why didn’t you SNEAK up to them! (Ignoring that she was all worked up since she thought Yuuri was hurt because Kou is vague on the phone.) You overhear interesting conversations when you sneak. You should learn to sneak. Unless Kou would have tsundere-denied it... Maybe he would. So. Well. Next topic.

Just jumping from big moment to big moment, let’s go from the Yuuri Plot Thread to The GG-kun Appearance! The order is messed up, but that’s the charm of this non-summary okay. The GG-kun Appearance includes a dash of Kou is Totally Jelly and Futaba is Cute and GG-kun is Wearing a Hat.

Speaking of which, keyboardsmashfwnsipaf I like your hat, man. I also like how tall you are even though you look kinda 12 and I like all that blushing you do and also is your bag hanging over your stomach? That’s different. I also like that even though GG-kun is a bit of a quiet one, he does still say what he wants to say, and all in all he falls outside the standard character cliches (if you ask me). The only thing you’re missing so far, dear GG-kun, is laughter. You do do that right? I’d like to see if he can joke around in some form, ‘cause he’s going to get boring if he’s ONLY goody-goody.

...I should probably start calling him Touma, but it’s so hard. Maybe when Futaba and everyone starts calling him by name. I might get used to it then. I wonder what his first name is, though. Wait, or is Touma his first name? Then his last name? ...Ikuta? XD

What was I talking about. Oh yeah, GG-kun walks by, and after some initial blushing, he leads Futaba away to have some private GGxFuta time (Kou gives them a very satisfying displeased look) and tells her to forget about  You Know What. And just. Hahaha. Seriously, Futaba, why do you phrase yourself so... sexual innuendo-y. Your first time? Doing... such a thing? Hahahaha.

I assume Eavesdropping Kou thought she meant a kiss, because anything else would just be... I mean... what genre is this again someone remind me.

Anyway, manly Kou is manly and interrupts to tell GG-kun he is UNmanly for wanting Futaba to just forget “something like that”, but then he gets the real story and turns on Futaba instead, calling her a female pervert. Among other things. Haha. I love Futaba’s change from I HATE BOYSSSS to tomboy to female pervert. XD

Kou walks away in shame and then he sulks about how long they’re talking, even though Futaba’s supposed to hate boys. That is just. So cute, I can’t even.

Ah, I’m falling back into summarizing habits, aren’t I. Oh well. Moving on, the cutest cutest thing that has happened in forever, when Futaba wonders what it’s like to say, “suki,” (which I suppose you know means, “I like you,” (the “I” and “you” implied by context)) and tests it out when she and Kou has to stop and wait for a train to pass on their way home. She giggles about how he didn’t notice, and then another trains passes and she does it again, only this time he leans in close and asks her what she’s saying. She’s so surprised she almost walks backwards into someone standing behind her, so Kou pulls her close all protectively. I mean, they’re such a COUPLE they practically have grandkids already.

And theeeen :D Futaba notices a poster about that summer festival at Sakisaka Shrine (oh man, I’d like to visit Sakisaka Shrine hahaha why is it fictional) that they never went to, and they both look at it kind of wistfully, and Futaba says she always regretted not making sure whether he’d really invited her or not back then. Kou repeats what he’d said, “7 o’clock, in Sankaku Park, by the clock,” and Futaba says that since that was all he said, it was hard to interpret. Kou repeats it one more time and Futaba laughs like she thinks he’s just joking around with it, and it’s quiet for a moment before she pulls her hair together beneath her chin to make a beard (SHE IS SO CUTE) and repeats that it’s hard to interpret. Kou smiles at her (HE IS SO CUTE), and says, “I was trying to renew the promise just now,” and, “Let’s make sure we go this time?”

“Definitely.”

“And while we’re at it, let’s just start dating officially.”

“Ohh, since when were you so... not ambiguous?”

“Since Bikkuri started writing fanfiction.”

“She shouldn’t do that. She’s killing our charm.”

You’re welcome. Let me share my ideal future story progression with you: Kou acts Tanaka-kun-y on a regular basis. And... that’s it. No, wait. And Futaba makes Kou flustered. Yeah. That would be fun.

I do wonder if Sakisaka will take the story to The Trials of Couplehood any time soon, or if she’ll use GG-kun to delay (but also assist, by making Kou jealous?) Futaba and Kou’s getting together. Or Yuuri might remain an obstacle, but I kind of doubt it. I get the feeling Sakisaka rather likes Yuuri, haha (I do too, really). I don’t think she wants to take her down any dark alleyways (don’t!). I could be wrong, I guess, but just... my Sakisaka Io manga radar sense gut feeling of magic... tells me that Yuuri just needed to feel she also got a fair shot, ‘cause she must feel like Futaba’s always in the lead (...because she is) and that must be hard to swallow. But in the end I think she likes Futaba too much to go overboard. Yeah. I have faith in you, Yuuri! Don’t disappoint me!

But back to FutaxKou and the future... I suppose KOU might be the problem still. I’m like 57.4% convinced he’s at least vaguely aware that he likes her, but all in all I’m not really... sure. It’s quite likely he’s still in some sort of denial. And though he might have accepted that it’s okay for him to be happy and all, he miiiight still distance himself reflexively if Futaba gets too close? But then again, the teaser line for ch16 on the Betsuma website suggests tension/nerves due to the shortened metaphorical distance between them, so that sounds promising...?

…Ahhh stop talking geez. Okay. I got to fangirl loooong-windedly about Aoharaido this month too! Let’s wait and see what happens next month. It’s very possible that the Chinese scans will keep coming out before I even get my Japanese raws (though probably not several days before the official release haha?), and if so, then... well. We’ll see, I guess.
